Richard Alpert Theories page
Edit
FYI, I have moved your Richard Is a Medieval European theory from Richard's theory page to the talk page for theories. While it is a good thought, it is purely speculation right now. There is no real evidence aside from Ilana calling Richard, Richardus (spelling??). It is a great discussion & deserves some talk, but that isn't for the Theory page, but for the Talk:Theory page. If you would like to discuss it, please leave me a message on my talk page. I'd prefer not to get into an editing war. NEVERGIVEUP Contribs Talk 14:53, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Your theory wasn't deleted, it was simply moved to the Talk:Theory page due to it has no real evidence. Your only evidence is Richard being called Richardus, and the Others speaking latin. LP:TP also states......
There are many types of logical fallacies. Specifically, it is easy to attempt to support a speculation by using shoehorning and wishful thinking.... Please remember that theories must maintain logical consistency, therefore theories presented with a logical fallacy are actually only unsupported speculations and do not belong in an article. Consider the following:This is what making the leap from Richardus to your speculation is. However, I will leave your theory on the page for now as it is important to you. I will be enlisting the opinion of other consistent editors to see who they agree with. If they disagree with me, I can accept that, otherwise this will be deleted from Richard Alpert/Theories. Remember, it will stay on the Talk page either way. I am not trying to be an "edit nazi" as some say, but we can't fill up the theory pages with speculation. That's not what they are for. NEVERGIVEUP Contribs Talk 19:49, 15 May 2009 (UTC)The conclusion is "correct", based on the "facts" presented in the argument. However, the facts are not directly connected to each other, which creates an illogical conclusion. A more Lostean example might be:
- 1. Wood floats.
- 2. Ducks float.
- 3. Ducks are made out of wood.
- The Island chose Locke because he is special.
- The Island chose Walt because he is special.
- Locke and Walt are the same person.
- Here's what I posted on the Theory Talk page:
- I think that the above theory is a valid theory, with substantial evidence to support it, although that evidence is only circumstantially connected to canon. However, much of the information here (i.g. etymology of the name "Richard") is completely unnecessary and doesn't belong in the theory article. The paragraph starting "If he was born in" is speculative (and is written so), and should be removed. Also, the tapestry containing Latin text does not support this theory, it more refutes it, as the tapestry contained mostly Egyptian imagery and writing. The tapestry would better support a theory that Jacob (not Richard), the creator of the tapestry, is from Roman controlled Egypt, or something along those lines.
- And please, if someone (especially someone with as many edits as NEVERGIVEUP) deletes information you've posted, don't just put it back up. Talk to them find out what was wrong with it, edit it accordingly, then repost it appropriately.- Roobydo talk contribs 21:02, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- Agree with NEVERGIVEUP and Roobydo. The theory needs some work.--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 00:38, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- From User Talk:NEVERGIVEUP: "Therefore it stands. Quit editing it." You don't get to say that...to anyone. I suggest you read the following at the bottom of the edit box: "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then don't submit it here."--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 00:46, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- Please understand that this is only to keep the pages clean and purposeful. Please continue to theorize and edit the LP pages. Your edits are greatly appreciated. NEVERGIVEUP Contribs Talk 01:17, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
