Hi Jabberwock. Currently there are several pages on Lostpedia that are displaying weird fonts and/or colors. Talk:Main Page, Lostpedia:Ideas, and Talk:Jin Has a Temper-Tantrum on the Golf Course are some examples. Could you please look into this? Thanks. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 21:04, 27 September 2008 (PDT)

Poll undefined

Hey Jabberwock, the current poll no longer appears on the main page. Instead there are orange letters saying "UNDEFINED". Is there any way you can fix this? Thanks. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 16:55, 6 October 2008 (PDT)

PollDaddy.com made some changes and the flash method is no longer usable. I made an update to the extension and sent to Admin for upload to the site.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 12:14, 15 October 2008 (PDT)

Mediawiki strange behaviour

Hi. I don't really know who to ask. I'm using a bot on the French Lostpedia and I recently found a bug I though was coming from the bot. But in fact it comes from lostpedia, look at this link. The mediawiki software is adding two extra lines on top, making bot inefficient. Can you have a look or transmit this message to the relevant person ? Best regards... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wyz (talkcontribs) .

I didn't mean opaqueness, but background transparency. Take a look at the Lostpedia logo for an example of what I mean.
Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 20:39, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
I am still not that sure about what you mean^^ The logo doesn't have any background. Look at this post in our test blog, where I posted it with two different background colors. --DerAndre (talk) 21:00, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Odd. When I viewed the image on the de wiki I didn't see the checkered background like on other transparent images. When I downloaded and viewed in an external editor, the transparency is there. One more request. Would you be able to flip it horizontally so the reader is facing right? I think that would work better on the top-left of a page. Thanks,    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 13:17, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Yeah, you might be right^^ --DerAndre (talk) 14:59, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Btw: I noticed you trying to fix the main page. I think you have to remove these lines with <mainpage-leftcolumn-start /> and so on. --DerAndre (talk) 15:01, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

CSS

Hi, you seem to have taken care of all the css issuses by the time I got here...! even the Wikia menu on top. if you need help with any of it leave me a message. Also, I understand the reason monobook isn't used as a default is because it's too outdated for Wikia's interface. is that correct? I can update the stylesheet... (bit) --CharlieReborn 23:31, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, we shouldn't need to update monobook since we're not using it by default. Lostbook is installed, but we won't be actively developing it. Let me know if you have any other suggestions for Monaco.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 22:47, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Great place

Great place you have here. I recently started a wiki for the show Flashpoint. Hopefully I'll get the hang of Wikia to create something even half as good as this. I can't even make templates. Pretty lame, I know. Could you help me out with getting templates and a good theme? It would be greatly appreciated. --Santarus 22:46, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Commentary Transcripts

Hey Jabrwocky, I recently came up with the idea of adding commentary transcripts to the wiki, I posted this idea in lp ideas and got nothing but good responses. I have finished the first transcript and was wondering if you could help me find a way to add this to Lostpedia. I came up with some ideas and listed them on the page, but no Sysops have been able to help me out so far and was wondering if there is any ideas or ways you could help? The page can be seen [HERE] (the "Disambig" page of sorts does not need to be formated like it is) Thanks.-- SawBucks  Talk  Contribs  02:32, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm assuming these are commentaries from the DVDs. Anyway, I think this is a cool addition to the wiki. You should model after the episode transcripts, with a title like Because_You_Left_dvdcommentarytranscript. See what other people think about the page names on the ideas page.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 03:28, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I wrote it just like the episode transcripts and got the first one finished. The only thing is it takes about 3-4 days just to finish one transcript so I was kinda wondering how many votes something needs before it can actually be created, I don't want to spend weeks doing a couple and just end up having to scrap them. Also nobody has came up with an idea of how to make it an actual page on Lp, it's all just agree's. Should I just keep waiting (I posted it a while ago)?-- SawBucks  Talk  Contribs  03:57, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

When you fix up the Ep template to include the latest episode, could you also add the "e" version to "-Enhanced"? Thus when you add 5x05 to point to This Place is Death, 5x05e should point to This Place is Death-Enhanced. Thanks! Robert K S (talk) 04:03, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

TSS swearword kicks

Hi Jabrwocky7. I noticed TheSecuritySystem is now kicking users for swearing, may I ask why it enforces such a strict policy concerning swearwords? We (the opers) usually keep a very light policy about what's allowed the say on the channel. Most of the time, at least one op is around to monitor the channel. We have monitoring under control, there's no need for that sort of automation right now. I liked the way it responded before, it kept conversations that used course words often in check. --CharlieReborn 01:10, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Agreed. :) - TheAma1 01:14, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Agreed. We have about one op for every three regular users on a normal day, no need for the automatic kick. I even feel the warning is a little much, as it seems to only provoke users into testing which words will trigger it. But that's another issue. danhm 01:27, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Disagree. The warning was completely useless. Users ignored the warning, and it was just something to laugh about. I don't think it was doing anything at all to limit the bad language. Stlgirl 02:19, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Agreed. - I don't see why it has to be so strict, obviously we'd want to keep swearing to a minimum, but kicking is ridiculous. --LOST-Kadaj 07:39, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

This was a mistake. I rebuilt the trivia yesterday after it broke and unloaded/reloaded some scripts in the process. Somehow the swear kick script went back to the defaults. It's now set to just warn and I've pared down the list as well.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 15:07, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Abuse

I've sat on this for a day and I'm still annoyed.

We had a controversy about the nature of the imaging equipment used in"Because You Left". User:DocH changed the description from SONAR to something else which I can't find or remember right now, pointing out that SONAR is a system primarily used underwater by naval vessals. I agreed with DocH. Others took exception writing that the construction foreman said "SONAR," therefore it must be SONAR. They were unwilling to accept the argument that the foreman might have been wrong. The image, btw, looks more like an ultrasound than SONAR. The weight of opinion was that that description should remain SONAR; I disagree, but that's the risk of working on a wiki.

On 18 Feb, User:jdray left the following on both my talk page and on DocH's talk page:

"Did Jabberwocky 7 get that all straightened out for you? So sorry your

acoustics didn't make it but that wasn't on the show you know."

When I asked him on his talk page the purpose of the post he replied to my talk page with a longer, insulting post.

I alledge that this is a personal attack.

--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 02:35, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

I don't think it's a personal attack per se, but still a little rude. I agree with your assessments that it's not SONAR, but we have contradictions with script and science. I bet if you sent the question to Darlton for the weekly podcast they might even discuss it!    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 04:51, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

John Locke

Greetings, It looks like John Locke has maxed out its template link capacity. Another user recently replaced a call to "Ep" with the text of the episode title after the template returned "" as a title. Would it help if the first four seasons were turned into editable templates and transcluded (or is it included?) into the character page? If so, I'd be glad to do it.--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 02:38, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Too many expensive parser calls. The only ways I know of to fix is to reduce the links that are using parser functions (like ep and crossref) or break the page up somehow. If you view the page source you will see "Expensive parser function count: 356/300" in the code. See also Category:Pages with too many expensive parser function calls.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 04:15, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

re: irc cloaks

Answer: Yes, we do. Help:Wikia IRC channel cloaks --Uberfuzzy@Wikia 07:24, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Too hasty.

A move of sonar fence to sonic fence is a huge change that affects numerous articles. It's not one to be taken lightly. "Sonar fence" has been used in all of the Enhanced episodes, including "LaFleur-Enhanced". Also, Juliet merely said "It looks like some sort of sonic fence or something." There's no indication she was using a canon name. Robert K S (talk) 02:39, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

I'd argue the only hasty move would be to move it back without further discussion. SONAR is SOund Navigation And Ranging. Its definition is "a method for detecting and locating objects submerged in water by echolocation." Putting that aside (heck maybe Dharma stripped some SONAR emitters from submarines and put them on columns), We have conflicting canon. The enhanced episode tidbits can't be counted as canon without some kind of corroborating evidence from another source. Either way, I have posed the question on the fuselage to see if we can get a straight answer.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 03:46, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Location: theory page for "what ever happens, happens". Someone has taken to continually deleting all responses and new theories on the page. I made the mistake of trying to repost my comments a few times before looking up what to do in the situation, which probably made the recent changelog worse.

On the discussion page a user claims they are editing the page to remove discussions, yet their def. of discussion seems arbitrary as they are removing responses the discussions already resident, and not the discussions themselves. Exoscoriae 18:41, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

"Combination approach" - Lostpedia talk:Ideas/Episode numbering

I had considered leaving a third compromise option available, but discarded the idea:

  1. There are too many combinations of compromise given all the variables involved.
  2. There will always be some subset of users dissatisfied one with of the combinations and who will move to change the compromise to one of the extremes.
  3. A third option will leave the appearance of the propriety of multiple voting.
  4. A third option will leave the appearance of the propriety of creating a fourth option, a fifth option, etc.

(Please also see the discussion about this that took place between CTS and I on our talk pages.) I would prefer the third option be removed from consideration, but I must insist that editors limit their voting to one option only. We can't have multiple votes floating around.  Robert K S   tell me  18:17, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey Jabr,

I was playing trivia on IRC with DharmaHelper, and we were cursing a little bit. Then after a while I was curious as to why the bot said "don't swear", but had no consequence. Theory Pages

Managerpants, NEVERGIVEUP, and I have tried to start cleaning up a lot of the "Theories" pages, but the task is quite daunting. A very large majority of them read like discussion pages. Is there any way we can get some more people involved?-- Roobydo  talk  contribs  20:42, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

It's listed on the Job List in the Community Portal. You can also tag them with the category Category:Theory_Cleanup.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 20:56, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Also, when editing them, i've been moving a lot of material to the theory discussion pages, because I don't want to permanently delete some of the the valid arguments. You can see what I mean here and here. Should I keep doing this, or should I just go ahead and delete everything I remove?-- Roobydo  talk  contribs  20:42, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
If it's a huge chunk of discussion, please move to the talk page. If it's a one-off comment that could be re-worded, do so, or delete if necessary.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 20:56, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

TC Wiki

Huh, (I tried uploading a screenshot but it wouldn't work). Off the main page the "Next Release" box it's in is gray, then there's a white background for the countdown template then there's the picture...if that makes any sense. I'm trying to get the template:next to to have a transparent background so there wouldn't be any white on the main page at all. I tried putting the div style everywhere in it but couldnt' get it to work. Maybe it's just me though if your not seeing any white at all. I cleared my cache or w/e as well.-- SawBucks  Talk  Contribs  01:45, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

On second thought, this might not matter anyway. I'm thinking about looking into just making the main page just with header boxes like Lp has here. I've seen it on a couple wiki's and kinda like that (our's is a little bland anyway). That being said I probably won't be needing it to match the background, because it'll probably just be white anyway. Thanks for the help though! If there's any links you can refer me to accomplish that however, fell free to let me know.-- SawBucks  Talk  Contribs  02:15, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Revisiting episode titles ban + Old spoilers discussion

Hello. So, a while back, there was a decision made to ban all episode titles from the wiki with the exception of the immediately upcoming title. As far as I can tell, this decision was made in the topic Lostpedia talk:Spoiler Policy/Archive 02#Titles are spoilers! (redux) and was made because there was no way to create a collapsible Nav template for the episodes. As you may have seen, users were recently able to create such a template. As such, the original justification no longer applies, so I've reoppened the discussion here. If it's not too much trouble, I would like to get all the SysOps to weigh in on this publicly, as I feel previous spoiler policy discussions have been ignored and/or avoided by SysOps from time to time (particularly [[this one where there was a user consensus to set aside a page for officially released content from the producers, similar to the old "/Spoilers" pages, but used only for official content, which was never heard about again, despite a 100% consensus in the discussion.) At any rate, it would be great to have you all weigh in since I think this is an extremely important issue for Lostpedia that we have resolved, given the original reasoning behind it. Thanks.  Jimbo the Tubby  talk  contributions  07:51, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

I made the collapsible template, so I'm well aware of it. At this time I don't think we're going to change the policy. Many people don't want to see the titles in recent changes or other areas as well. Also, anyone wanting to use the navigation template to go between episodes in the current season will still see the "spoiler" titles.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 13:50, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh, man, I see the episode navs have been made autocollapsed. Can we go back to a default uncollapsed state? I really rely on those navs to get around the encyclopedia and to quickly determine the episode number of an episode for which I only know the name. It's costing me a lot of time waiting and uncollapsing.  Robert K S   tell me  00:06, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Why'd you delete the page? 5x17 is the second part of the Incident. I realize it's officially known as 2x16 but we've done the same thing for the other four two-hour finales (1x23 and 1x24, 2x23 and 2x24, 3x22 and 3x23, and 4x13 and 4x14). It would just add consistency, as a similar thing has already been done for redirects to the pages.--DarknessLord 01:08, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Rollback

You were having a vandal who made over 500 edits in the space of 70 minutes. It is possible that he will be back. Sannse and I came in to help because we were alerted via chat, but it would have been better if your editors could have handled it by themselves. For this, they need rollback rights. This is basically a faster version of "undo", and it should only be used for vandal fighting. Other than that, it grants no extra powers, and it can be given out freely to anyone whom you trust to not be a vandal. Read more at Help:User access levels, and we've written a detailed explanation of how it works over at w:c:guildwars:GuildWiki:Rollback. --◄mendel► 11:28, 13 July 2009 (UTC)--◄mendel► 11:28, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Other than that, it grants no extra powers, and it can be given out freely to anyone whom you trust to not be a vandal. Read more at Help:User access levels, and we've written a detailed explanation of how it works over at w:c:guildwars:GuildWiki:Rollback. --◄mendel► 11:28, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

protecting

I saw that you might be online according to the recent changes and as it seems that no other SysOp is online I wanted to ask if you could protect "The Lostpedia Interview:Emily Rae Argenti" now that I've posted it. -- Orhan94  Talk  Contribs  18:23, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Done.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 18:31, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

New "Bob" vandal 7/20/09

  • Another "Bob" has been vandalizing the wiki. I tried undoing his edits, but as far as I can tell he has just been undoing mine. I don't want to get into an edit war. I've never reported a vandal before and I hope this is the right way.--Linus2342|talk|contributions 21:20, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Leaving a message on my talk page is a good way to notify. Also, you should go to at least one page that has been vandalized and submit a problem report.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 21:38, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Did you block his IP as well? (not that it'll do any good <sigh> cgmv123TalkContribsNew Spoiler Policy! 21:41, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

IP gets autoblocked for a while.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 21:46, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

New Spoiler Policy

I have created a new spolier/promotional material policy that I feel correctly addreses the issues at hand: titles, ignored discussions, and the fact that our motivation is contradictory to our policy. The policy is in two parts. The first part deals with spoilers and can be found here. The second part deals with promotional material and may be found here. I would like you to weigh in so improvements may be made before I submit it to be an official policy. Thanks! cgmv123TalkContribsNew Spoiler Policy! 21:36, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

“Promoting” a bot

Hi! I did some checkup on interwiki links back on Lostpedia-FR and I’d like to use the log file to add them on pages that don’t have any on LP-EN, as well as check up the existing ones, using my bot from LP-FR, which name is Wall•e. Now on wikia, every account is common to all LP-xx, but the only thing is, it doesn’t has the “bot status” here on LP-EN. Could you please “promote” him to this (I don’t know how you call it ^^) so I could do it without making lot of stuff appear on Recent Changes? Thanks a lot. — SGC.Alex 20:02, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Please create a user page on the english Lostpedia, with a emergency shutoff button (block) and good description of what the bot does. I'll take a look, then have one of the Wikia helpers promote the bot if it's a good fit for Lostpedia. Thanks,    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 20:29, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn’t see your message and tried to add a few links to see if my bot worked as expected. It did, but I stopped it in order to have the “bot flag” so it won’t have to wait in the process (I got warning messages). You can look at the modifications it did and see for yourself if you want me do make it continue. — SGC.Alex 13:27, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
It looks like your bot is doing something that another bot is already doing. I suggest you reach out to the owner of Nanaki.bot and see if you can work together. I don't think we want to have multiple bots that do the same thing.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 14:48, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
That’s exactly what I did: I asked Nanaki what to do on Sunday and was told to ask you for the bot flag. What should we do? :s — SGC.Alex 16:00, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
My point is that the Nanaki.bot account is already updating the flags for the French articles. If something is missing, then Nanaki should make corrections to his bot. Is Nanaki still running his bot? The last contribs I see were in June.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 16:12, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but Wall·e updates the flags for all languages, using the log file it generates on LP-FR. For example, if « Daniel Faraday » on LP-FR finds links for the other languages, but this article on e.g. LP-EN doesn’t link back to any of the other LP-xx, then a warning is written. This way, I can log in on LP-EN to add all links in a row. — SGC.Alex 16:54, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
The bot flag has now been added by Wikia staff at my request.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 23:05, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
OK, thanks. Wall·e is currently assigned on checking the interwiki links on LP-DE, I’ll let it do its stuff on LP-EN afterward. — SGC.Alex 08:20, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Layout

Hi, I'm Gavin, I've made a Ghost Whisperer Wikia, and I realize that you're the one who made the layout for the Lostpedia main page. Well I have a sort of similar layout for my GW one, but mine is completely different yet I kind of used your layout as a sort of guideline. I just wanted to make sure if that is okay with you because I can imagine the time and effort you put into it and I will totally take it off if it's a problem, here's the link, just so you can see: http://ultimateghostwhisperer.wikia.com/. Thanks --Gavin Hetherington 18:11, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Looks good to me. No worries.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 20:27, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Bot status

I don't need bot flag right now, bot already done most of it's work. So you can unflag it. I'll ask for the flag when i need it. --Nanaki (talk+) 19:07, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

We don't need to remove the flag. I was just wondering if you were still running this bot. Is it worthwhile to run it once per month to account for new and updated articles?    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 19:24, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Damon, Carlton and a Polar Bear

As the site is owned by ABC. All involved editors currently consider it an ARG. I think this merits it for a Main Page Item. (Blog went up already) Thanks! cgmv123TalkContribsNew Spoiler Policy! 18:59, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Sysop Notice Board Extension

If you read my post, you notice that my plan calls for an extension. Since this would have to be custom made, the first person I thought of was you. Could you make the extension? Do you know someone who could? Thanks cgmv123TalkContribsNew Spoiler Policy! 19:03, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Vandal

Saw you deleted Marius, but you need to block User:Mariusb and rollback his edits, there's a problem with reverting on the character appearances page. Thanks! cgmv123TalkContribsNew Spoiler Policy! 15:21, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

He also vandalized the John Locke article. Thanks! cgmv123TalkContribsNew Spoiler Policy! 15:25, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Interview Request

I am going to send Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz this letter asking for an interview. Since I'm sending it on behalf of Lostpedia, I figured I should get approval before sending it. Can I get approval? Thanks! cgmv123TalkContribsNew Spoiler Policy! 15:41, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

That's fine. Update the URL in your letter. There should be no "www". Use lostpedia.wikia.com.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 16:19, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Renames

Hey Jaberwocky, I have a couple of articles that need a rename, and I already nominated them. Mind to take a look? (Damon, Carlton and a Polar Bear Art Samples and this category). Thanks,  ODK  Talk  Sandbox  16:57, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Template:Navbox

Hi! I'm an admin at the Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice Wiki and I've tried to copy the navbox template from wikipedia countless times without success. But I noticed that you uploaded it here, could you please help by adding all the neccesary templates to the greys anatomy wiki? If you could it would be a real help but if not, thats okay too. Thanks anyway! -2Anthony420:17, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

It's more than just copying the templates. You need to make updates to the Mediawiki:Common.js file. 20:27, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Fan Fiction Contest

During the hiatus the theme has been fan appreciation. And I thought what better way than to have a fan fiction contest. And what better place to have it then on lostpedia! There would be rules and challenges each week or two. We would write 18 episodes each has to be with in the same story arc Ben can't die one episode and then come back to life the next one. I really need an admin to support me on this idea and all the feed back I have gotten is positive. Please help! --BenKilledDharma 00:27, 23 August 2009 (UTC) mrb0605@gmail.com
