  • Noticed you put up a cleanup tag on Background_cast/Others. Please add a detailed explanation on the article's talk page, or remove the cleanup tag on the article page, as it is unclear why the corrections needed require a full cleanup tag. Thanks. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  12:59, 16 June 2008 (PDT)

Major edits without consensus

Hey, man. While I appreciate that you are an avid fan and watch the show closely, you have been making a lot of major edits that ignore the policies around here lately without any form of consensus. You can't just declare that character X is alive because you think he might be. The fact that we don't know where they are of if they are alive means that character's status is unknown. There was a contingent of individuals who followed Locke. We don't know the make-up of that contingent. Those we didn't see killed may be dead. They also may be alive. For the character for whom we have no official known whereabouts, their status remains unclear. Thus we cannot assert they are "alive," just because they might be. Please stop making this edit to the Oceanic 815 survivors page, because I will continue to edit it back. We can consult an administrator if you think that would be helpful. --Castaway815 13:49, 17 June 2008 (PDT)

As I pointed out, a poll is irrelevant. We don't base things on people's opinions around here as much as we do what was seen on the show. You keep treating "unknown" status as if it implies a person is deceased. You point out that since we DON'T KNOW if someone is alive or dead, that we should call them "Alive" instead of "Unknown." What is the "Unknown" status for then? How can you agree that someone's status is unknown, and then say that "unknown" is an improper categorization? --Castaway815 21:16, 17 June 2008 (PDT)

  • Thank you for your question on uploading images. Download the images you showed me to your own computer. Then scroll down on your left column in Lostpedia (below the google ad) to the Upload file link, and click that. It should be self-explanatory from there. As part of the image comment you should probably add the image template {{img|S1|copy=promo}} for season 1, {{img|S2|copy=promo}} for season 2, etc. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  21:51, 17 June 2008 (PDT)

Deuterocanonical survivors

I think the Deuterocanonical and Expanded Universe characters should be seperate from the actual characters on the show in List of Oceanic Flight 815 survivors. Easier to read/understand?--Mistertrouble189 17:05, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

  • True, the format could be the same, just perhaps seperate from the people on the actual show. Yeah the color key keeps changing every now and then haha but it's good.--Mistertrouble189 17:18, 19 June 2008 (PDT)
  • It's looking very nice, good work. I see you're adding the characters' picture to the Expanded Universe section; nice job! This page looks very neat and updated thanks to your efforts.--Mistertrouble189 18:18, 19 June 2008 (PDT)
  • Also add Lisa Gellhorn? Since I don't know how to make her pic mini.--Mistertrouble189 18:22, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Well, the logo is very small. The image in the centre is a sort of a symbol like this one. I'm not the one who can make a clear version of the logo, but I'm sure that other users can. --Kemot from Poland 10:23, 21 June 2008 (PDT)

I tried running it through image correction, though to be honest it didn't make much of a difference. --Nickb123 (Talk) 10:32, 21 June 2008 (PDT)

Survivor templates

  • No, please do not use that template anywhere. The template you showed me, Template:Nav-Flight 815 reproduces nearly ALL of the issues that were problematic with Template:Nav-SurvivorsMinor back when it looked like this. I'm sure this is no accident, you appeared to have copied it over. I would suggest looking over the talk page for that template. Please do not use Template:Nav-Flight 815 on any pages, or it will be removed, due to these problems. In short, the template contains storyline-level detail, much of it going as far as pure fan-speculation, and furthermore the structure also reflects individual fan-oriented categories as well as contradictory categories (broadly: how does one consistently decide between the contrast "prominent vs. not" with "alive/deceased" with "oceanic 6 or not" with "expanded universe or not"? Answer: it can't be done). Therefore the more canonic explanations of "main cast, guest star, extras, expanded universe", which at the same time also avoid storyline level detail as much as possible, would be immediately much more consistent and understandable by any reader of the wiki. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  04:14, 23 June 2008 (PDT)

Thought I'd ask your opinion on this...

I noticed that you marked the Lost: The Official Magazine article as needing a cleanup. I completely agree with you, but I have a question. Do you think that the article could be less cluttered if each of the issues had their own separate page? I have seven sitting right in front of me that I could easily milk a full-length article from. Do you think that's a good idea, and could you possibly help with this? -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:09, 23 June 2008 (PDT)

Great. I have issues 7-11 and 14-16, so I'll start to work on those now. I'll also draw up an infobox for the issues.-- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:17, 23 June 2008 (PDT)
I was thinking that we should name them by their titles (unless they're like "What Kate Did", and then we'll add the suffix (Lost: The Official Magazine) afterwards. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:22, 23 June 2008 (PDT)
Yeah, it does. I'm about to save it. It should pop up in recent changes any moment now. Let me know what you think. -- Sam McPherson T C 15:24, 23 June 2008 (PDT)
Thanks. Now, let's put it to good use! lol -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:29, 23 June 2008 (PDT)
I agree. And I'm working on the page for issue 7 now, so yeah, let's go ahead and start, if you want. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:33, 23 June 2008 (PDT)
Not sure uploading scans from the magazine would be entirely, legal, but using cropped images from them just might be. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:45, 23 June 2008 (PDT)
True. I think that the only images should probably be the main cover and the alternate cover. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:52, 23 June 2008 (PDT)

I've been trying to do the same thing myself, and the coding wouldn't work. But it looks very good. I'll see what I can do to spread them out into three columns. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  14:16, 24 June 2008 (PDT)

  • Admins decide who's a patroller. I understand there could be some of "well, why's he a patroller and I'm not? I'm more deserving!!!!!1" but that's the way it is. It's not like that on HW, so yeah. :)--  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  12:45, 26 June 2008 (PDT)
    • Basically. The Heroes Wiki link I gave explains the responsibilities of a patroller. Simply put, they patrol the recent changes, and mark edits when they are satisfactory, and change them when they're not. It'll make it easier for admins to see what needs to be done, too.--  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  12:51, 26 June 2008 (PDT)

Re: Quotes

Hey, yeah I completely agree, I just wondered if Santa had anything like a list that could easily be selected from, so if he had say 600, we could get at the very least 50 really decent quotes from that, etc. Its just a case of, to do it, we should have a full set of quotes ready for use, instead of launching it with 20 and worrying about future ones later on - it needs a full cycle whether we do it weekly or even daily. --Nickb123 (Talk) 13:55, 30 June 2008 (PDT)

  • Ask user:Jabrwocky7. I haven't had time to look but I assume they can be placed under the {{img|copy=promo}} tag. I would reference the original URL. Is it an image sourced from Gamespot, or a promo image given by the game co. to Gamespot? Either way I think it falls under "promotional", but ask Jabr. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  16:36, 1 July 2008 (PDT)
Looks like definite promo images to me. There's ones of the cast stood in front of camera looking at it, they aren't screen-captures. Therefore, one can assume they've been released for press coverage and are covered by the promo template. --Nickb123 (Talk) 16:46, 1 July 2008 (PDT)
It's cool. And yeah, copyright is weird, pretty much 99.99% of the time they probably don't mind anyway, and even if they did, they'd cease and desist us first. So it ain't a big deal but good to be covered :) Cheers for being conscientious at any rate! --Nickb123 (Talk) 16:50, 1 July 2008 (PDT)
I think all those pics are promo. However, some you could say are tv-screenshot, so I think its {{img|copy=tv-s}} or something similar (play around with it lol). If you're stuck and unsure, just cover your bases and put the tv-s one AND promo. --Nickb123 (Talk) 17:04, 1 July 2008 (PDT)

Re:150 limit

Yeah its cool, its just a warning to say its quite a large file, and more than anything might load slower for people on IE or something if their computer connection is slow. I usually go by the rule of thumb "is it necessary for it to be over 150", if its not then I'd just make the image a bit smaller, which cuts down the file size (as does saving it as a jpeg possibly). But if you want it to be big so people can click it for full-size then its all good (things like the blast door map I think are over 1000). Judgmenty call, --Nickb123 (Talk) 04:37, 3 July 2008 (PDT)

I found you...

...on this random blog. There's a whole paragraph about you. [1] --Blueeagleislander 07:29, 4 July 2008 (PDT)

That's so weird, what's up with those contributor stats though?! Pfft, they should say what we do, we go way further than just nicknames... I mean, transcripts much. --Nickb123 (Talk) 08:25, 4 July 2008 (PDT)

Re:Game Guide

Yeah it's good, I think it just needs an introduction though, just clarifying that it is intended to be a walkthrough guide, and that detailed episode synopses can be found under respective titles, yada yada. --Nickb123 (Talk) 05:17, 5 July 2008 (PDT)

Nikki & Paulo

I have a question! Did you like "Exposé" because you liked Nikki & Paulo or because Nikki & Paulo died??? I've always liked Nikki and I still have to find someone that does as well!  Bringlibbyandcharlieback  Talk   Contribs 11:53, 6 July 2008 (PDT)

Is there a reason you're asking? -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 12:45, 6 July 2008 (PDT)
Yes! I am on a quest to find someone that likes Nikki Fernandez!  Bringlibbyandcharlieback  Talk   Contribs 12:52, 6 July 2008 (PDT)

It'd need some pretty pro software. Sorry, I got no leads. There must be someone though. --Nickb123 (Talk) 13:01, 7 July 2008 (PDT)

Yikes. Have any higher resolution version? --Sloths 13:20, 7 July 2008 (PDT)

Well the filename says "fuel", so I'm guessing it's a gas can. To me it looks like a drop of oil in the middle of the logo. I don't think it means anything more. Where on the island is the fuel can located?--Sloths 13:33, 7 July 2008 (PDT)
something like this?
Dharma oil
--Sloths 13:56, 7 July 2008 (PDT)
from what? --Sloths 12:54, 8 July 2008 (PDT)
What's wrong with the one I made? What do you mean by "clean"? Thanks. --Sloths 13:26, 8 July 2008 (PDT)
I thought I did... They look pretty similar to me. --Sloths 13:33, 8 July 2008 (PDT)
So you just want it to say "Dharma" across the oil drop? --Sloths 13:41, 8 July 2008 (PDT)
What is an "actual Dharma logo"? Do you want me to recreate the Swan logo? Or the main Dharma logo? Or what? The oil drop logo has a white background, with a black oil drop and black bars. I was able to make the oil drop Dharma logo the same way I made the Looking Glass logo... I made them the same way. Please be very specific and don't use such ambiguous terms. --Sloths 14:04, 8 July 2008 (PDT)
What browser are you using? I tried both Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2, and it loads just fine for me. Perhaps it doesn't have proper png transparency support. Does this one work for you? -Sloths 14:25, 8 July 2008 (PDT)

The Door Article

Hi, Im wondering why you changed the logo on the The Logo? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bulldogdispatch (talkcontribs) 22:39, 7 July 2008.

Yeah I was thinking a book logo, I basically just grabbed a Pearl logo and re-worded though - I don't even have the right font. We used to make fantastic fan DHARMA logos though, like for AAA or other Lostpedia medals. I'll find someone to spice it up. --Nickb123 (Talk) 12:57, 11 July 2008 (PDT)

pearl logo thing

I'm in a lot of pain and i don't feel like doing this. it is however pretty simple to do in paint. save the pearl logo. open it in ms paint. go to the menu at the top of the page and find the "image" tab. click "invert colors". then go to "file" then "save as". it will say "save as type". select JPG, and Bob's your uncle. oh yeah then upload to this site. goodnight. --Sloths 22:24, 11 July 2008 (PDT)

Re:Paint thing

Yeah it should be easy enough. Open the file on Paint and then just do "File" and then "Save as", and then in that window there should be a parameter about file type, where you can set it to JPG image. Then upload that file and it'll work. --Nickb123 (Talk) 05:32, 12 July 2008 (PDT)

Yeah, what Nick said will work. But be warned, sometimes the image will compress and be a bit blurrier than the bmp file. And never, ever, save a paint file to GIF. It looks absolutely horrible. But your best bet for bmp to jpg (or gif) would be to download GIMP. It works really well with such transformations of file type. Just thought i'd contribute. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  09:20, 12 July 2008 (PDT)
Okay, thanks for the upload help guys. I'm still a beginner when it comes to uploading. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 09:25, 12 July 2008 (PDT)
Yeah, it's a hard thing to learn. It took me a while to get it down. Well, I haven't gotten it all down, yet. Also, saving as a PNG file on Paint does the least damage to the image. Just learned that from experimenting just now. So yeah...-- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  09:30, 12 July 2008 (PDT)
Okay thanks. I've been trying to upload some images from paint but I didn't know how it would affect the image. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 09:31, 12 July 2008 (PDT)

Featured article

I nominated Mercenary team for Featured Article. If you could, please submit a vote for this entry. I'm not lobbying, I just want to know the opinion of other users on the quality of this article. If you say no, please explain why, because it's one of my favorite articles on the wiki, and I am looking to improve it in any way possible. Thanks. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  12:48, 14 July 2008 (PDT)

Already have during my sweep of the nominations page. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  12:56, 14 July 2008 (PDT)

Traditionally, he shouldn't get his own nav, but me and Plkrtn discussed this a while ago and said how we thought he should be an exceptional circumstance. By all means draft it first? It would have to be formatted differently anyway, he has no centric episode, etc. --Nickb123 (Talk) 12:27, 19 July 2008 (PDT)

Its good but - but do you want ever page to have that nav or just Christian's? --Nickb123 (Talk) 13:52, 19 July 2008 (PDT)
Well yeah I'm good with that, it knocks down the number of navs to one. --Nickb123 (Talk) 13:54, 19 July 2008 (PDT)
Erm yeah I agree as long as it is needed. --Nickb123 (Talk) 13:41, 20 July 2008 (PDT)

Hey can you check that all the info you want kept from Battles is now in Conflict. I did a complete copy and paste from "Fights and Attacks", but only partially from Battles. Thanks, --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:16, 24 July 2008 (PDT)
