Hi Angela, there are a number of templates that don't appear to be working. Do you have any idea how I can fix them? They are Template:Ep, which now apppears blank on articles (see example at Jack Shepherd under the infobox for "centric episodes"), and Template:Crossref which now links to Wikipedia instead of Lostpedia pages (see example under "recurring themes" at Left Behind). Hi Angela. The location for the ad is here. It appears for UK viewers mostly on the Main Page as a square ad. A number of people have commented about it on the Forum and on IRC chat, stating that they think it's a little inappropriate for the front page as Lostpedia tries to be a family site whenever it can. We also think for the front page, it's a bit unprofessional. International query

  • Hi Angela, I had a few questions regarding the non-English Lostpedias during this migration process. Because of the extremely shorter-than-expected time from the decision-making to beginning the actual move, we had very little time to confer with even the English language sysops, and I believe no time at all with the sysops (where they exist) of the non-English ones. AFAIK no official announcement has been made in these languages (except for the single line sitenotice at the top), and I believe most of the support has been directed toward the English language side. Given the above, my questions are:
    1. Are there non-English Wikia staff or Wikia community team/helpers that are available to help in a dedicated fashion to the non-English Lostpedias, to assist the wiki itself, their sysops, and their communities? This would also address user account migration and fixing of essential templates and naming conventions that have presumably been broken.
    2. Could there be assistance in posting migration information and links to the mainpages of all language Lostpedias? This should include a FAQ, talk page, and links to wikia staff/helper talk pages.
      • I myself can do a mainpage announcement in English (although the native language would be preferable) in all languages for which the mainpage or its latest news block is not sysop-protected.
      • For protected mainpages, I could either be granted sysop privileges temporarily for those wikis, or alternatively have those pages downgraded in protection. (I believe Spanish/ES and German/DE are taken care of by their sysops, whom I've encouraged to do this themselves, but I haven't had interaction with the other languages.)
      • Or if we are assigned Wikia staff or helpers in the native languages, they could do these tasks, whichever is preferable.
    3. Could all previously existing sysops of the non-English Lostpedias be confirmed as sysops post-migration? I believe we have been fixing these on a user-by-user basis, but as I don't have access to the original database, I can't look up the old sysop lists. We do have a pretty good idea from the table at User:Sam_McPherson/sandbox_2, but it may be incomplete.

Hi. Unfortunately we don't have staff to cover every language but Tim Bartel is helping with German and Juan David with Spanish and Portuguese. For fixing templates, Uberfuzzy can help regardless of the language (I think wiki templates are a language of their own!). Do you think we need a main page announcement as well as the site notice? Perhaps instead we just need a page on each wiki where people can discuss the move and report any problems, and then others on that wiki can help translate the responses of staff on those pages. If you are happy to make those, I can add a link to each sitenotice so the users there can find it. The log seems to be correct, so previous admins can be confirmed that way. Hey Angela,

I noticed a little bug, hope you can help me. I'm using German as the default language, and while I don't have any problems with the sidebar in DE - Lostpedia, EN - Lostpedia displays the default Monaco-Sidebar by Wikia, and not the sidebar the sysops have set here. I only see the right sidebar while being logged out. Is it possible to set a new sidebar for every language or will I always see a list of banned users here?^^

Hi DerAndre. It's a problem we're aware of. The only solution for now is to copy the sidebar from mediawiki:monaco-sidebar to mediawiki:monaco-sidebar/de. Otherwise mediawiki:monaco-sidebar/de shows the default sidebar. Angela@fandom (talk) 07:00, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

At the risk of being tedious (I already posted this question the talk talk page), how do I search for a term that is also a page name? At the Lostpedia, I'm looking for occurrences of Mittlos. When I try to search, I get taken directly (indirectly through redirect?) to Mittelos Bioscience. That's nice, but I was looking for all occurrences of the word.

Edit restrictions question

  • Before the migration to Wikia, Lostpedia 1) required user registration (and being logged in) to make any article edit, and 2) restricted the action of moving and deletion of articles to sysops. A few of the sysops have discussed this among ourselves in our forums and wish to inquire if these restrictions are possible to implement here as well. We've periodically been targets of automated vandalism attacks, and the first restriction has helped us in the past, and will continue to help us minimize a subset of spoiler vandalism as well, something which will be very important in the coming weeks as our topic TV show, "Lost", begins broadcasting again. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  07:32, 30 December 2008 (UTC) updated 05:50, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Another note - In the past we have put the wiki database in read-only mode in the days leading up to the season finale to prevent leaks from being posted to the wiki. After the episode finishes airing on the east coast, the database is re-opened for edits.     • Hey guys! I have disabled anonymous editing and restricted the move function to sysops. I understand the concerns about spoilers, but we also have a number of extra tools to combat spam and vandalism here at Wikia. Image Searching

  • Also, I have a request from one of our sysops, user:nickb123, who writes: "Under the Gallery of New Images page, there used to be a searchbar where one could enter e.g. "Ben", and all images with this in the filename would appear in the gallery format, allowing for easy perusal. This was particularly useful to avoid duplicate images, as users could search to see if the file already existed. Furthermore, it was useful for the Lostpedia Blog when promoting a topic (such as writer Damon Lindelof) to search the name on the gallery page, as it meant there was a selection of wiki images to choose from via Lostpedia instead of finding a suitable image from the Internet elsewhere." Domain MX entries

Help Please

Hey Angela and sorry to bug ya, I know you busy on here so i'll make it as simple as I can as I do not fully understand it myself. I am a user of the "lostbook" setting and have adjusted my page to fit the following. I logged out for the first time recently and noticed somethings that confused me a little. If you or another wikia member reading this could help please do or refer me to someone who can. Here it goes;
1). On my Talk Page I have a basic Archive Box for my past talk pages. This only seems to show up with the Lostbook setting and not the default one (monaco I'm assuming). The archive box is something many user's on here take seriously so I should get that fixed before someone "snitches" on me.
2). My Background Color Problems:

2.1). My User Page has a "Lostaway" User info box at the top of the page that underlaps the background color. This only happens in the monaco setting.
2.2). My User Page has a "My Lostpedia Awards and Icons" section and a "My Lostpedia Pages" section that has "graphs" in them of sorts containing my genral information. This also only does not show up in the default monaco setting.

Once again I know you busy but would like some help with this if you or anyone else out there could help (I can't work on it myself that much as "monaco" does not agree with my computer). Thanks.-- SawBucks  Talk  Contribs  11:59, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

  • This isn't a high priority, but just throwing this issue into the queue. When there is a chance, could we go over options for IRC? I know Wikia has that web gateway, and hosts its channels on freenode; we're currently on gamesurge. A brief summary of the various options available with pros/cons would be great: e.g. stay at gamesurge and somehow integrate to the gateway, or move to freenode. Are there wiki-integrated IRC tools available only via freenode? User IP masking, as well as channel registration details would also be great-- I assume we'd fall under Wikia as a freenode-eligible project, but we also have about a half dozen affiliated channels in addition to our primary #lostpedia, so would those be retained? et cetera et cetera. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  20:40, 8 January 2009 (UTC)


Hi Angela, I was wondering what the difference is between "Create" and "Create blog article" when you click on "Blog" on your user's gray bar at the top of your page. Is "Create article" something that others will be able to comment and such while "Create" is just something you can write whatever on your page?
