First time poster, long time follower....
This may be my mind running wild as it tends to do when thinking about LOST, but I figured I would throw it out there to see if it could stir the pot and get some ideas cookin.
After reading up about the Numbers and their significance as being the core values of the Valenzetti Equation (Lost Experience) which is a mathematical formula designed to predict the end of humanity it seems that part of the Dharmas Mathematicians plans are to discover a way to harness the ability to manipulate the "constant"/core values in order to change the "fate" of humanity. Now Im almost 100% positive that that has already been assumed/theorized but the I wanted to set the table before indulging in the main course.
With that being assumed, it made me think of the incredible way literary techniques are used by the writers, such as personification, to take something that is abstract (ie. numbers) and apply human characteristics. Now I mos definitely know this is going out on a limb but its hard to mistake coincidences on this show for "fate"/purpose. I cannot help but see some similarities between the O6 and the Numbers. First off, there are 6 members of Oceanic and 6 numbers (4,8,15,16,23,42) that are some of the most influential characters that are sent back with a purpose as described by Eloise Hawking. Secondly, I know there is the debate between happened happened or the ability to alter the past with some sort of course correction, which I think the losties still are trying to figure out themselves. So, in the end it may be the losties are the personification of the numbers in the equation and their paths in life which follow/alter the equation of "fate" of humanity.
This may be a little out there but I was hoping to get some feed back and try to get into the whole LOST posts because Ive enjoyed reading and hypothesizing with all of you and hope to now add a bit to the conversation.
