Not sure if this has been addressed... We have seen various dead people "alive" on the island. I find it interesting that when we see Christian Sheppard the body we see is the one from the casket -- meaning what ever is making Christian Shepard come alive needed the body. While for John Locke, whatever made him appear "alive" does not need to possess his body. It makes me think that they are possessed by different entities.
