I noticed the reference to the Bible in the flight number of the original Oceanic 815. Romans 8:15 reads :

"For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption as sons. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."

Seeing all the unresolved issues the original characters have with fathers or father-like figures, I think this is pretty significant to the whole "island as redemption" theory. The idea of atoning for the sins of your fathers...

And as the new flight 316 references (John 3:16):

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

John Locke? Sacrificing himself, and the others following him back to the island...
