Taking Off on Ajira

Pexxoum June 10, 2010

Was anyone else extremely worried and expectant of Ajia blowing up? The Man in Black believed that more explosives could be hidden in the plane, and I took that as an obvious sign that there WERE in fact more on the plane. Suspense at it's finest.

  • @Pexxoum

Well, I remember the night of the finale when I saw the plane flying overhead as jack died I was so mad about the finale and what wasnt revealed I didnt give it much thought. For several days after people kept saying they saw an oceanic logo and that ABC had put a shot of 815 in just for kicks. So I just assumed it was a homage to 815 and never looked back. But now Im not so sure

  • @Orange shadow, Yes, I believe it was the Ajira Flight. Jack's smile reflects his relief that at least some of the Losties finally made it off the Island. His purpose was complete at that point and he died knowing.

I've been pondering whether the Ajira Flight actually made it home. It's not really told to us in the end. So I guess it's up to us to decide. It's possible it didn't explode on take off, but maybe later in the flight. The take off was filled with suspense wondering if it would explode.

On a side note, I enjoyed Miles commment....about the duct tape. Something like..."I don't believe in much. But I believe in duct tape!"

  • Of course the plane Jack saw was the Ajira flight, what did you think it was?

  • Could the plane flying off as Jack dies been the Ajira flight? The thought just occured to me and I havent seen the episode since the finale. Could be wrong

  • I kept thinking the wheel was goin to collapse when Richard and Miles were taping it, and that one or both would've been crunched.

  • I agree, Seth. When I saw it I knew what it was. It let everyone reflect on the series and remember where we started.

  • The entire time they were trying to fire up the plane I thought OMG it is going to explode!!!!

  • Hmm, no offense to anyone who was confused or angry, but I thought it was pretty blatantly obvious what the purpose of the footage was - to ease viewers into the local news. This is why so many people are frustrated and/or amused by Lost viewers - we over-think every single little detail. I just don't see why anyone would interpret pictures/footage of the original crash site playing during the credits as, "Oh my god, the Ajira plane crashed!" or "Oh my god, they died in the original crash!" But maybe I'm just strange.

  • Yes, ABC added it and it totally messed up the ending. When I saw it I was pissed b/c it made me believe that they had all died in the original crash. It took me about a week, after I found out about that, to finally like the ending.

  • That was 815. ABC added it to help viewers transition into local news and reflect on the entire series.

  • Didn't anyone else see the plane wreckage during the end credits of the finale? That was the Ajira flight.

  • I'm assuming it was their only option and the adrenaline was flowing. Still, I know I would have rather stayed on the Island then get on a plane that may not even fly, and that may be rigged with explosives.

  • I don't know why none of them questioned whether or not the plane was still rigged, as two days earlier they were told by MiB that the plane may still have been rigged...they all kind of forgot that simple detail.

  • Well i dunno about the bomb(s), but I definitely thought it was gonna crash or fall into the ocean...
