The origins of Widmore's fortune

With so many topics raised by recent episodes, I'm going with an old mystery - I like contradiction, you could say : how do you think Widmore became so rich and powerful ? I've considered asking Damon on Carlton for the podcast, but they'd probably answer with a joke, like he created a mode magazine ( any Ugly Betty fans out there ? ), and it probably will never be explained on-screen, so I'd like to have your opinion. How do you go from jungle-dweller to missile-launching mogul ? Maybe Keamy being Paik's contact in the FST, and Widmore's employee in the OT, is a clue : maybe Widmore associated himself with Paik, but what could he have brought to the table to attract his interest ( the fact that we don't know much about Paik or Widmore's alledged business surely doesn't help ) ? We know he was leaving the island regularly before his exile : maybe he was smuggling things out of the island, but what ? For all we know, there's nothing of material value on the island ... So I'm guessing maybe his wife was the rich one, she died and he inherited. I know, that's kind of a lazy answer, but it's the only one I can think about that makes sense. After all, we know so little about Penny's mom ...--Lccf 13:04, April 23, 2010 (UTC)
