We all remember that scene in season one where Locke is explaining how to play backgammon to Walt. Some episodes later, Jack and Kate found two skeletons and a bag with the black and white things in a cave. John Locke calls the skeletons "our very own Adam and Eve". Years later we discover that the skeletons are The Man In Black and his adoptive mother. We learn Jacob's story and how he played something similar to backgammon with his brother. They used the same black and white things. We see a flashblack of John saying "Two players, two sides. One is light, one is dark" as if he was talking about Jacob and Smokey.
