Lost 6x07 - This is the reason I watch Lost

Say what you want about this season - it's not spoon feeding the right amount of answers to you; it doesn't have enough action; you feel the flash sideways timeline so far uncompelling - but last night's episode... this is the reason I watch Lost.

Last night we had at least two really great scenes, but first, let's count the answers I found. What did you find?

Jacob's Touch: Out of the mouth of one who should know, we find out that Jacob's touch grants you the gift of life, and you can't even kill yourself. It was funny watching Richard be so careless with the dynamite and seeing Hurley freak out about it.

Let's note here, too, that Jack didn't know he had been touched by Jacob; he didn't know that was Jacob who handed him the candy bar. This i…

What bothers me about Lost is....

If you've read any comments of mine you know that I'm an avid Lost fan. I love Lost and even how this season has been. What bothers me right now is Lostpedia. Believe it or not, it's not spoilers, messy pages, or bad edits. It's the really, really bad theories I've been seeing.

Okay, this is somewhat of a rant blog, I'll admit. Maybe I'm a little crabby today, but stay with me.

1. The Shepherd candidate is actually Christian.

Really? Let's take at the evidence.

a. Christian's last name is Shepherd. b. The picture in the mirrors was Christian's house, but the other images were places where Jacob touched the candidates.

That's it. Now evidence for jack

a. Jack's last name is Shepherd b. Jacob said Jack is the candidate #23 (he showed him the light…

Lost 6x06 - The War Has Begun

After last night's show I couldn't help but think, okay, now the war has begun. I love it whenever the smoke monster makes an appearance, so last night was just freaking awesome!

We saw some new insights that highlighted the contrasts between Jacob and MiB last night, I thought. Each of them made a deal, Jacob with Dogen and MiB with Sayid, to "save" someone they loved, but Jacob was going to prevent Dogen's son from dying (Jacob = Life) whereas MiB was promising to at least show Sayid someone who was dead (MiB = Death).

And MiB is evil incarnate? Well, we'll see, but at this point I'm more inclined to believe Jacob & Dogen & friends than MiB. Notice MiB lied now to Ben, Sawyer and Claire, manipulating all of them. To date we've seen what co…

Let's Work On Our Theories

I love this show. I love theorizing and talking with my friends about what everything means and discovering the pieces of the puzzle laid out along the way. I like how Lostpedia has a theories page for everything, but I do get annoyed when I read some just plain bad theories. What makes a bad theory? Read on (and no, this isn't about theory policy).

I'm all for "bad theories" when they're just for fun (see my last blog), but I guess that's the problem with the internet; you can't tell the intent behind the words. If you have a serious theory, there's some things to consider:

1) Common Sense. Common sense is an oxymoron these days (it's not so common), but let's try to apply some to our theories. For example, when people were speculating abou…

Further Thoughts and Theories

This is where I go outside my normal feelings on matters. Normally characters reactions and actions, as well as the question "How would I write the story?" or "How would the writers complete this as a good piece of literature?", are good indications to base theories on (or rather, to discount theories). Here I'll ditch my normal common sense.

For example, when Locke said to Richard "It's good to see you out of those chains, Richard" there were theories around saying the chains were symbolic and he meant because he's free of servitude to Jacob, but I find those theories a lot of hogwash, no offense.

Here's why: He said virtually the same thing to "Jacob's bodyguards" just before he became the smoke monster and killed them. Except that time he…
