The Arrival of the Black Rock on the Island

Djr7 May 18, 2009

We have seen two scenes so far during distant times on the Island-the opening scene of the Incident where Jacob and Jacob's nemesis talk with the Black Rock in the distance, and when Sawyer, Juliet, Jin, and Miles flash to a point where there was no well and the statue stood complete in LaFleur, and Locke was down in the wheel chamber. What if Locke turning the wheel during this distant time in the past was the event that brought the Black Rock to the middle of the Island. I'm not pretending to understand what happens to the Island when the wheel is turned, but the Black Rock could have been out to sea, then when the wheel was reset on it's axis the island stabilized itself and moved under the Black Rock. We don't know dates on either of these scenes, but I feel like this is a possibility. any thoughts?

  • That's sounds like a believable theory. The Island never actually moves it's physical location though, just it's place in time. wasn't that what Eloise said at the Lampost: "not a case of where, but rather when". Although I suspect that we're still missing some extra piece of info that would easily explain it.

  • U2 I agree because we don't have the exact dates, hence why it is merely a theory that I hope comes true. But I feel there since there are 2 scenes this season featuring the statue in full, I would like to think that they are related. And these don't have to be at exactly the same time because the Black Rock could have been sailing around the Island for a while.

  • U2, you are 100% correct that they could be "hundreds of years apart" and not related. But, it could have also been at the same time. That is what makes this a good theory. Very creative (while not far-fetched) theory Djr7. I hope you're right.

  • But w don't know that Locke turned the wheel in that time period. Who knows how long the statue was up there? Could be up for thousands of years. The fact he turned the wheel when the statue was there... and the fact that the statue was there when the Black Rock was close to the shore isn't enough to say they happened at the same time. The two events could still very well be hundreds of years apart.

  • Good observation Djr7...Maybe that is what happened, but wouldn't the island move alot further when the wheel is turned? Well however the Black Rock got in the middle of the jungle, I hope we find out next season.

  • if you google lost maps the black rock is closer to the other side of the island once it becomes "inland" could it be possible for the smoke monster to drag it into its "territory" ? ? when the island moved it would have just moved a teenie tiny bit (couple miles)to reappear under the black rock in the water, although major point for your side(which im inclined to believe--just tossing all possibliities out there--)is that every time flash seemed to be to a specific and important time.... im with you on this one i think

  • I would love that, much like the "We have to go back!" scene, where we saw the other half of it in the next season, what if we get the other half of the Jacob and Eeyore scene, flash of light and the black rock has dissapeared from the sea onto the island, "What the Hell!" It would be class!

  • yeah that could happen

  • It does make sense since we know that Locke turned the wheel during that time period. This show is really heating up. I hope they set up a post-finale interactive chat where they answer all leftover questions. This doesn't seem like the kind of show that could be cliff-hung into a movie but you never know.

  • If that was the Black Rock, then I was wondering how it would then end up so far inland. That was the only reason I could think of for it not being the Black Rock.

  • That is an excellant thought! Very nice!

  • I think that this is a really good thought. It would be really interesting if we saw the survivors at the same time that Jacob and the other man were having their discussion and that they made the ship land in the center of the island.

  • That's what I think. The island appeared under the Black Rock and thats how it rests in the center of the island.
