In another blog that got deleted because somebody didn't want to play by the rules, I suggested Time After Time as a title for the final episode. It's the title of a Cyndi Lauper song with lyrics about being "caught up in circles," a flashback, and being lost, which in itself relates to our favorite show, but it's also the title of a 1979 movie featuring two famous historical figures, H.G. Wells and Jack the Ripper, who are sent ahead in time. It's one of those "what if" scenerios, part sci-fi, part romance, part comedy, and part thriller with a super suspenseful, surprise ending. The entire point of the movie is that H.G. Wells created a time machine that allowed Jack the Ripper to escape and wreak havoc on modern utopian society (the FDW is a kind of time machine and is located at the bottom of a well, which I think is a subtle hint). Wells feels obligated to stop the Ripper, and Jack tries to prevent Wells from interferring with his plans, so he must obtain the key to the time machine from Wells. Each pursues the other for the majority of the film. It's a movie that's really "out there," much like Lost, and I began to see enough similarities that I thought there could be more to explore. Has anyone else seen this movie? If so, what do you think? Am I on to something, or reading too much into it?
