So having read some stuff about the Whispers and briefly watching over some of the old footage I had an idea that I hadn't seen posted here yet about them. I'm thinking that perhaps the Whispers are in fact a monster like the Smoke Monster, the difference being that you can see the Smoke Monster. In other words, there exists a Whisper Monster that exists as one discrete entity rather than thinking of the Whispers as a nebulous collection of many individual whispers. It comes up on people like Smokie does and makes some noise (the Whispers themselves) but rather than judging and killing them it seems to just simply guide them. This was originally posted as a reply to Glyph's blog "A Hopeful Richard Happening" and I thought it was interesting enough to post as its own blog here. Glyph mentioned The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (albeit without knowing that it was a Coleridge poem long before it was an Iron Maiden song but hey, nobody's perfect) and it got me thinking...
I hadn't even thought of that poem in relation to LOST but now that I think of it, there are a number of parallels between the two.
