Invincible until the Island is "done" with you... good or bad idea?

Ok so I keep hearing a lot of people talking about how much the loved the Michael episode in season 4 ("Meet Kevin Johnson" i believe) and how awesome the revelation of him not being able to die until the island was finished with him was really cool. To be completely honest, I was a little weirded out when I saw that. It just turned me off and I thought it was a bit too...odd for me. I guess I don't like the idea of how the island seems to be able to completely control everything that happens.. that idea alone turns me off because I usually like to think that people have free wills... But it also turns me off because if the island can control things like that then why do people like charles widmore and his mercenaries pose any threat at all? couldn't the island just make all their guns not fire like michaels? Or just simply not let their boat ever leave the dock? I may be overthinking this and the whole "Michael's gun not firing" thing could have been a con by Mr. Friendly (Tom) I just thought I would share my opinion on this comments?
