From Lostpedia

I only started watching Lost part way through Season 2. So much of the storyline was (even more) mysterious to me and I've had to catch up from "recap" shows, Lostpedia, and flashbacks during the current season.

I can certainly see some parallels with the The Prisoner (The Monster as security system, Mindfuck, and a seemingly inescapable "prison without walls". There is also the search for personal identity. In Lost it is an exploration of the individual characters lives, past, present, and who they will become in the future. In The Prisoner, Number 6 is just a number "Six of one, half a dozen of another". The Village (in The Prisoner) is in some ways comparable to the island, as there are 2 seemingly separate groups of people... those running the "prison" and those who are "prisoners" - in Lost it currently seems The Others aka The Hostiles are more knowledgeable of the Island and are seemingly running the show - with Ben perhaps being akin to The Prisoner's "Number 2" who answers to the mysterious Jacob, who is in some ways like the "Number 1" of The Prisoner. Sure, there are plenty of differences, but some of the themes are similar. Lost has certainly had a lot more episodes to explore and expand on ideas, and there are central characters rather than one central character.

The other aspect of Lost I enjoy is the spiritual journey. I'm looking forward to how Locke's story line progresses, now that he's on his own journey.
