Hi Graft i am working in the season 3 portal looks in my talk page and i hope you can help me a little if you have the time and dell free to add any suggestions, comments or notes --MJKubba|talk|contributions 11:27, 30 September 2007 (PDT)

EditingEdit

  • Just wanted to tell you that I've seen you active lately and I really like your edits. Keep up the good work! -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  22:41, 14 October 2007 (PDT)

MYOKoM appearance in 2x23Edit

Great job identifying the music in episode 2x23 (Music)... I noticed that there were something there when I looked through the episode, but I couldn't even hear if it was a song or if it only were some random noice. That's why I didn't put it up on the unidentified list... ;-) Anyway... now when I know what to listen for, it's quite obvious that it's that song! Great job! / Dreamingtree72 07:09, 15 October 2007 (PDT)

Clementine's ageEdit

Thanks for helping me back up and clarify Clementine's age-I needed it for a fic I wrote. Hopefully if we see her in a FF the producers will pay attention to continuity and the clues to her age they've given us! --823freckles 03:52, 20 October 2007 (PDT)

The WatchEdit

Dark's article after the link just notes that John Terry was spotted at that time. (by the way, the redirect in Numbers isn't working properly. I don't have a clue to fix that)

    • Yeah, it works ok now, thx. --Hunter61 04:24, 7 November 2007 (PST)

transcriptsEdit

  • Do you have permission from DarkUFO to use his transcripts? If not, please remove this content and contact him first. We've been very careful with our other transcripts, for example we had special permission from Spooky for many of her ep transcripts. We do the same with the other sites, and never copy prose without explicit permission. Thanks! -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  01:21, 14 November 2007 (PST)
  • Actually it would be better if someone redid the transcript(s) from scratch from the video then. For now would you mind blanking the transcript page(s)? Transcript issues are more the department of user:nickb123 and user:marik7772003, so I'll drop them a note too. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  01:30, 14 November 2007 (PST)
  • Instead of simply correcting listening & mistakes by editing text copied from elsewhere, we'd rather the entire thing was done from scratch. It shouldn't be much more work b/c it is short, but otherwise I think your work might simply get redone by someone else at LP. Sorry about the inconvenience, we really would like to maintain a good relationship with other fan sites. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  01:42, 14 November 2007 (PST)
  • yes that would be great. Even small differences are telling in who did the original transcript, so as long as you really do it by ear, transcribing speech forms as you hear them, then that's what we're looking for. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  03:21, 14 November 2007 (PST)

redirectsEdit

  • I believe the problem is that redirects don't work with article anchors. I haven't delved into this issue in a while though. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  19:24, 19 November 2007 (PST)
Hmmm. It works with my computer. I'd suggest the reason it may do this is your browser may not be able to read the code to redirect to halfway down the page but I am not 100% about how the wiki works with redirect, etc. I am using the latest version of Firefox, i would suggest trying it and seeing if it works (besides LP looks sooooo much better using Firefox) and if you already are it might be something in your cache or cookies (try clearing both of those). I'm not sure what else to suggest. -Mr.Leaf 11:42, 20 November 2007 (PST)

Recurring themes edit Edit

The reason for my edits is that I think its better if identified themes are obvious, dont reach out into other episodes and don't require interpretation of the story. I also think that less is better than more.

  • Ben expresses his desire for Jack to stay on the Island, knowing that it would be perceived as a sign of defeat among his people if he leaves. (Leadership)
This is the one I disagreed with the most. I dont think the recurring themes should reach outside of the current episode or draw definitive conclusions about what Ben's motives for wanting Jack to stay on the Island might be.
I didn't see the logic in calling this a rivalry. I also think that "Ben wants" is an interpretation that goes beyond what was actually said. I could live with this one if "wants" was "wishes".
I thought calling this "fate" vs. "free will" wasn't quite right. I think calling the actions of the Island "fate" is story interpretation. Dharmatel4 12:05, 22 November 2007 (PST)

Chapter 3 edits Edit

Hey Graft,

I added what we know so far to the January 14 Clues page, and trimmed down the content on Chapter 3. It'll change as more info is revealed, as you said. (It appears that some of the phone numbers/codes differ from what I read. Is it possible they vary by region?) Anyway, thanks. ~ ntfletch

Sig Edit

edits Edit

I don't agree that Jack ever saw visions. That was a theory that many people promoted as fact but that I never saw as proven. I removed the "eyes" thing because the rather than a reference to a recurring theme in the mobisode, it seemed like a reference to something that happened in the pilot previously. i.e. since its not new material, its not a recurring theme. Minkowski Edit

Hey, the recap I'm referring to is the video called "Lost in 8:15", which was on ABC's website. In the video, not only does Minkowski sound different, but his lines are different as well ("Hold on Jack" is one of them). That recap was released in early January. I missed the end of Lost: Past, Present and Future so I don't know if he sounded different in that as well. ShadowUltra 18:36, 3 February 2008 (PST)

Find 815(tieing up loose ends)Edit

Based on the Damon quote that Find815 isn't 100% in canon, I think we can reevaluate some of the "remaining questions" especially

What time frame does Find 815 take place in relation to the show?

Are the men heard in Confirmed Dead crew of the Christiane I?

  • Yes. The news cast confirmed that the Christiane I made the discovery.

Why do they appear to be the first to discover the plane?

  • Because FIND815 wasn't in canon.

I wanted a sysop's opinion before i cut these out, as it's kind of a grey area, especially since we've found out Find815 isn't canon. --Gluphokquen Gunih 02:19, 1 March 2008 (PST)

I agree with all your answers and I think those questions can be safely removed as UQs. Robert K S 13:51, 1 March 2008 (PST)

Hello Graft Edit

I am currently doing some remodeling of this article. I am wondering if it is possible to change certain text when someone rolls over an image.

For example, if some one rolled over the image of Ethan Rom, the text below Ethan (that just says Ethan Rom) would change to "Other Man". -- Iron Man  Send a message  View contributions  10:09, 6 March 2008 (PST)

Daniel's machine. Edit

hey. i was planning to create an article on Daniel's machine when i saw that it was previously deleted by you. Was there any reason for that? Is it okay if i attempt to create an article on it? --dposse 13:04, 6 March 2008 (PST)

IMHO I think Daniel's machine does deserve a main article--and under that title, as "machine" is about the most specific name given to it in dialogue on the show. The February 28 video podcast with the propmaster described the construction of the prop and can provide some detail and additional pictures for the article. Robert K S 16:13, 6 March 2008 (PST)
I agree; I'm not against the article at all. I presume you've now seen why I had deleted it over at Dposse's talk page? It was just a mistake and I figured instead of blanking out the page, it would be better to leave it as a red link so someone would see to create it. I suppose I should've put a cursory intro sentence on it and labeled it as a stub... -- Graft   talk   contributions  16:21, 6 March 2008 (PST)
After I wrote the above, I noted Dposse created the article and it's looking good so far. Robert K S (talk) 16:31, 6 March 2008 (PST)

Capitalisation Ruels Edit

I wasn't aware of any capitalisation ruels, so thanks for letting me know! --James W. 14:15, 7 March 2008 (PST)

Themes Edit

So, "Guns" was taken from the themes portal. It used to be there, maybe it came not to be considered as a theme. Pull it out from "The Constant", if you want. "Animals" is still there, and it's recurring, and they're usually pivotal in one way or another.

Also, "Irony" doesn't need to refer to "natural irony" only; Desmond and Sayid's case is a mix of verbal and incidental irony -- so irony nonetheless. And Desmond says "I was having a dream", so there's no need to go further on that. He was actually having visions of his future -- "his conscience was there" or whatever you want to call it, those were visions, as he wasn't actually there and people can't be in two places at one time, right? So, he claims it as a dream, not knowing it was a glimpse of his future. -. Grillage .- 18:19, 8 March 2008 (PST)

Thanks for the great reply. I agree, the whole discussion of what constitutes or not a theme is up to the Themes page. Actually, a serious update on that page is long overdue...
About that second part, I'd say, not systematically, there are coincidences and lucky coincidences. The first type happens all the time; the second type, the way I see it, is never lucky on Lost. The writers insert very fortunate coincidences on purpose so they won't be considered "lucky", but they'll actually show something, have a particular meaning. It's kinda hard to explain, I admit it, so let's try this: the auction lot is 2342, the adjustment number is 2.342. This is kind of a simple coincidence. The original Sawyer is Locke's father, and this could be considered a lucky coincidence. But it's there exactly to demonstrate there are no "lucky" coincidences in that universe. That's what I meant, as awkwardly as I tried to put it.
As for Desmond's conscience, I don't know what to think. He's in 1996 watching things happening in 2004, so it's got to be a sort of vision -- not to be confused with an illusion. But how would we call it? He's seeing himself in the future, for pete's sake... You know, the whole purpose is to leave us like that.
One last thing, about my remarks when I changed the main article. I didn't mean to be as rude as I truly sound there. It was pretty late here (past 4am), and random people keep logging on to change stuff they're not supposed to, not properly appreciating the entries, not rephrasing -- they just go deleting stuff and making absurd assumptions, you know how it goes. Really sorry if I sounded too harsh. -. Grillage .- 20:06, 9 March 2008 (PDT)
I see your point now, about the whole thing not being a vision. I guess I was seeing it the other way around. Is there a "time travel" theme? It would fit nicely.
As for putting the other thing under "Coincidences", I honestly don't know. It sounds pretty ironic to me that one guy feels lost in time, then returns from his "comatose" state and then the other guy (not knowing about this) quips "Good timing". But would it be a factual coincidence? Maybe it is, I'll leave it up to the admins.
The part about "dreams" (without "visions") should be kept, I think. When Des is there in 1996 (when the whole army thing actually happened), he didn't know what was going on and said the helicopter part was a dream. Makes sense to me that it's part of the recurring "I dream of weird" in Lost, no? -. Grillage .- 21:24, 9 March 2008 (PDT)

AnagramsEdit

Some users have taken it upon themselves to completely redo the Anagram page. While I always appreiciate the collaborative nature of the wiki, they seem to want to just go ahead and keep changing things deciding on their own what should and should not be considered "logical" or "appropriate". I think we need to decide as a wiki (no one or two users) what should and should not be on the page, can you, as a sysop, jump over to the page and give some input. --Gluphokquen Gunih 20:53, 8 March 2008 (PST)

Re-renders on Re-uploadsEdit

How long does this typically take? The Emma pic I uploaded yesterday and the Nikki one from today still look scrunched. Castaway815 15:09, 10 March 2008 (PDT)

With the Nikki picture, it was more getting a zoom that was consistent with the remainder of the images. It would be nice if there was a database of official "minis" that could be used for the whole website (updating and adding as the seasons go by). The photos in this database should mostly be the ones from the "List of Survivors" page (67x90 proportions). There are a few minor characters (Sullivan, Donald, "Male Tailie") that aren't that 90 px high. I'm sure we can get a better one of Sullivan, but I'm not sure if we can for Donald or "Male Tailie." We should do the same for the Others, Freighties, etc. Using 67x90 px and a close cropped portrait look as the standard. At the end there could be a very nice, easy, point-and-click database of the characters, as well as more specific databases like the "List of Survivors" page. Castaway815 08:38, 11 March 2008 (PDT)

Harper's imageEdit

It's from one of the "after episode" episode stills that are released later, because they're spoilery. In the pictures, she's talking to Juliet in the same scene as the one that aired, I think it's from a different take that ended up airing. Maybe they had a sudden rainpour, as there are pictures of the two of them wet, too. Or they dry blocked the scene? Not sure. But it's still representative of what she looks like, so I wouldn't bother changing it. Alexisfan07 11 March 2008

{{signpost}} Edit

Interesting, thanks. I tried looking around for one before I wrote {{pleasesign}}, but couldn't find one and so buckled down and wrote a new one myself. {{signpost}} seems less fully conceived than {{pleasesign}} in a couple ways: it doesn't make any sense that, since {{signpost}} has to be subst'ed anyway, it doesn't automatically generate a new heading, the "Hey, USERNAME" part, and sign your post for you. {{pleasesign}} is a lot less typing. Re: image re-uploads Edit

Hey. If you are referring to the Keamy tattoo pic, I had changed the name because the original was displaying fine in thumbnail form but someone had complained that it was still showing the old version except redrawn to the proportions of the new version when you went to the image page. Changing the name seemed to fix that. I had assumed that since the thumbnail was fine that it wasn't just a matter of the system not having processed it yet. But if you know that the image page updates slower than the thumbnails, I'll just trust the system to work itself out next time. Sorry about the hassle. If you're referring to the Staff logo however, I had considered it actually a different graphic and not just a fix to the original. But if you want to delete the other one I don't mind, I just thought it might be still useful elsewhere. Thanks for the info! --Jackdavinci 10:30, 31 March 2008 (PDT)

Image re-uploads Edit

  • The image re-upload problem seems to be happening again and it's worse this time - not only the closeup but also the thumbnail still show the older image and not the newly uploaded one, even after a day. Greetings Graft -

I've only been posting for a while, but I have enjoyed it, even with the goofs I've made.

Early on, I posted a comment on my user page about how much I'd like to see Lost (the novel). I'll read the book; it won't matter that I will already know how it ends. The book is, I guess, not within the subject matter of this site. There is surely a better place to post my sentiments than my user page. Where?

The first long piece I wrote was on the subject of leaders among the others. It's at the bottom of the discussion page for the Others. I thought it would take fifteen or thirty minutes to knock out; it was more like five or six hours. No one has commented, although I know the thing has holes in it. I'm actually looking forward to seeing it chewed up. It there a better place to post it (publish or perish!) within the wiki so it gets some attention?

There's a healthy rename debate going on at Talk:Timeline:Post-Island, there's no real concensus yet, but I think it'd be good to get a few SysOps to weigh in. --Gluphokquen Gunih 20:34, 3 June 2008 (PDT)

If you want you could contact other users about this or create a "Save the redshirts" section on your user page, because the goal is to get as many users to sign the petition as possible along with 6 SysOps (Admins). I would appriciate a quick respond and a sign on either my user page or User:LostCloverfield42's page. --Orhan94

Music Edit

I don't know if "Excelsior Lady" is or isn't the song we hear in "316" (and I can't carry a tune<grin>), but if it is, wouldn't the group have to get credit? They don't appear in the rolling credits at the end of the show.--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 01:11, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

I am surprised that crediting the artists is not required, pareticularly in the case of "A level" performers. The Technology/Magic quote was "Clarke's First Law;" I later saw it referred to as his third law, in which case I have no idea what the first two are. Think of it this way. "Magician" cuts a woman in half, pulls the two halves apart to display his success and puts her back together. If the viewer is insufficiently advanced in his thinking, it's magic! Clarke was the first guy, back in the 1940s, to suggest the possibility of communications satellites; now that's... Take care. --Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 14:08, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Minor edits Edit

OK. --Orhan94 22:29, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Sorry, turns out that categorizing can't be set as a minor edit, as I have "Mark edits minor by default" on my preferences, though they still appear in the recent changes :(. I'll try and categorize them by editing not by the "Add category" button. --Orhan94 08:57, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

I thought I fixed that in the infobox Edit

Seriously. [2] There's still a problem? Please help me isolate exactly what's causing it.  Robert K S   tell me  01:07, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

RE: Minor Edits Edit

Thanks for the idea. I never knew I could set my preferences so that it was automatically put as minor edits. I think I'll set it as that, because lots of the edits I make are minor. --Crash815 Talk 04:36, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Okay. I'll do that. Thanks for your help. --Crash815 Talk 04:47, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
