Based on similarities in appearance and mannerisms, "Uncle Doug" could actually be an older Sawyer who, as the result of a time flash after the Incident, finds himself in his forties by the time of the double-funeral for his parents. Consider that Doug's relation to Sawyer is not made explicit.Further, in the South the terms Aunt and Uncle can indicate close family friends as well as blood relatives. Additionally, the character is only identified as "Doug" in the LOST casting call, which is notorious for using pseudonyms when auditioning people to play existing characters.
