Main Article Theories about
Toxic gas
Main Discussion
Theories may be removed if ...
  1. Stated as questions or possibilities (avoid question marks, "Maybe", "I think", etc).
  2. More appropriate for another article.
  3. Illogical or previously disproven.
  4. Proven by canon source, and moved to main article.
  5. Speculative and lacking any evidence to support arguments.
  6. Responding to another theory (use discussion page instead).
  • This does not include responses that can stand alone as its own theory.
  • Usage of an indented bullet does not imply the statement is a response.

See the Lostpedia theory policy for more details.

  • The gas from the purge infected the "Others" and now they can't have children.
  • The gas was made at The Tempest.
  • It was designed by the DHARMA Initiative, and would of originally been used to wipe out human populations around the world, so that DHARMA could repopulate the earth with their "modified" humans that were in harmony with "the one true way".
  • The 'Jughead' hydrogen bomb is buried at the Tempest station and the gases are still escaping and leaking from the bomb. These escaped gases are harvested for the manufacture of the toxic gas used during the purge.
    • We can be pretty sure now that Jughead was buried at the site of the Swan.
  • The symptoms of inhaling the gas are quite similar to time traveling sickness, so possibly this nerve gas simulates the effect of being stuck in time and overloads the brain.
