Tourniquet man

The "tourniquet man" is an Oceanic 815 survivor who was trapped under a piece of plane wreckage shortly after the crash. Jack, hearing his cry for help, noticed his legs were crushed under a piece of landing gear and enlisted Locke and another survivor to help pull him out. Jack applied a tourniquet to his leg to stop the bleeding, which he removed later that evening. The following day, Jack commented to Boone that he ("tourniquet man") should be fine. ("Pilot, Part 1")
Trivia
- According to producer Bryan Burk, the color red was purposefully de-emphasized in the scenes leading up to the appearance of "tourniquet man" so the shot of his bloody leg would "really land." (Pilot, Part 1 audio commentary)
- In the tie-in novel Endangered Species, Faith Harrington says that his leg has been amputated, an event that is not depicted in the television episodes.
- Dale Radomski, who first portrayed "tourniquet man", appears in Season 3 as part of the Others background cast. He plays a guard at the quarry who confronts Sawyer in his escape attempt. ("The Glass Ballerina") It is most likely that Radomski is intended to portray two different individuals, and was cast in both roles by virtue of his stunt abilities.
- For new footage from the day of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 shot for "Exposé", background extra Kamakani De Dely portrayed "tourniquet man". The reason is unknown; it's possible that Radomski simply wasn't available for the shooting of the episode.
For most of the scene featuring "tourniquet man" (and the death of Gary Troup), recycled footage from "Pilot, Part 1" was used, although De Dely was visible for a few frames in a brief cut inserted after previous-used footage of Radomski. De Dely is also visible in promotional photography for the episode (image), in which background survivor Wayne Geiger also replaces Fuzzy Moody as the person helping Locke move "tourniquet man."
