On page 694 of the first edition American hardcover, the following passage appears.
- "It was on this couch that Andrea liked to sit in better (if considerably more medicated) days, sometimes watching shows like The Hunted Ones (a clever sequel to Lost) and Dancing with the Stars, sometimes a movie on HBO."
Setting
Edit
Under the Dome takes place in late October of an indeterminable near future year. A magazine article regarding a 2012 model car makes 2011 the earliest, if not most likely, possible year. Although not referenced by name, Barack Obama is clearly indicated as the sitting U.S. President. Additionally, one character is seen to have a bumper sticker reading Yes, We STILL Can!, a reference to the Yes We Can! bumper stickers seen during the 2008 election.
Dates with days (Monday, October 23, etc.) are given throughout the course of the book. The correct alignment last occurred in 2006, before Obama's presidency, and will not occur again until 2017, after the reach of his consecutive terms. This could either have been done to make the year ambiguous, or as an attempt to establish the year as 2012 failing to account for the leap year.
