Theories

Taylor, the manager at Christian's hotel told Jack about his father's drinking, and how hotel personnel had had to escort him to his room after "an incident" at the hotel bar. He also said that he didn't think any rental car agency would give Christian Shephard a car in his condition. ("White Rabbit")
