Tunisia is geographically close to at least one major proposed location for Atlantis: Crete, which is a large island off the south coast of Greece and which was the center of Minoan civilization; and the much smaller island of Santorini (otherwise known as Thera) which is north of Crete, and was transformed into an archipelago after a volcano blew it apart at round about 1600 BC. If you draw lines between Santorini, Tunisia, and the Great Pyramid in Egypt you get a distinct triangle.

Mediterranean culture is obviously an influence on the island, from the Egyptian hieroglyphs to the Tuscan-style (a type used by the Romans) columns at the ruins to the Colossus-like statue remant. The question is, how was travel from the Mediterranean to the Island facilitated if not by teleportation?--Atrahasis 15:42, 5 June 2008 (PDT)

Interestingly, the scenes in Star Wars shot in Tatooine were done in Tunisia. Medenine is just down the road from Tatahouine (note the similarity between Tatahouine and Tatooine). I can't think of an implication except as a nod from the writers to their admiration of the Star Wars legacy. Ben Kenobi <---> Ben Linus perhaps? Muninn99 14:42, 5 November 2008 (PST)

As I write this, the articles reads "Charles Widmore tells Locke he was exiled from the Island by Ben and that's why he knew of the exit, suggesting he was also teleported there by turning the wheel". Does this not conflict with a scene in S5 where it is implied (at least) that Widmore leaves the Island via sub? 9emini 10:03, March 7, 2010 (UTC)
