I think that the trucker was in on the plot. I know that's a little out of nowhere, but it just bugs me that he would throw the gun to Kate of all people. I mean, she doesn't look like she knows how to use a gun and is very good at acting frightened. Couldn't he of looked for someone else who seemed more likely to go with his plan?

Of course not, because he was in on the plan the whole time!
