Talk:This Place Is Death/Theories

Back to page | < Talk:This Place Is Death

Had Jin actually died when the ship exploded it would have been Ben's fault. Ben shot Martin Keamy in the Orchid, which caused Keamy's heart to stop beating, which, in turn, caused the bomb to go off. The only other person who knew this, of course, was John Locke. He was the only other person in the room when Ben killed Keamy. So how could Sun know that Ben was responsible? The answer has to be that John visited Sun before the events we witnessed in "This Place Is Death" and told Sun what happened. Rstewart 06:03, 13 February 2009 (UTC)RStewart

I'd like to know the reasons behind deleting this giant chunk of text from the page, Domerin. When you make such a big edit, it would be good if you at least stated your reasons: -

  • Turning the wheel makes the island move through time. Anyone who's inside a certain radius at the time the is turn, moves through time along with the island. The thing is, when that happens, it creates a new timeline, an alternative reality. Ben's concern is that it could break the space-time continuum. In order to avoid that, what happened after the wheel was turn must be undone. That means getting everyone that left back to the island and then, using the wheel, move the island back to present time. But if the o6 where off the wheel's effect radius, why they have to come back? That's because they happened to be inside the radius a previous time the wheel was turn: when the hatch imploded. Imputing the numbers in the computer kept the island from moving through time.
    • We can't just say "inside the radius are affected" because, well, it's not accurate. The Others are not moving around as evidenced by Ethan / Richard / the camp / the Other's camp appearing and disappearing.
      • That is not true. We have not see the present-time Others. The only time we see the Others is when they are existing in the past. They are not moving for the same reason that Kate and Claire didn't move when Sawyer witnessed Aaron's birth. That happened in the past. We don't know where the present Others are right now (possibly the Temple?), but I think it's safe to say that they are probably moving too.
        • This is NOT safe to say. Before the first flash, we see all of the Others with Locke. After the flash, Locke is alone. Whatever is happening to the Others, it's not the same thing that's happening to everybody else. Alpert tells Locke that the Others did not go anywhere, he did.
          • Ok, but there obviously is some sort of selection over who's affected and who's not.
        • I'm almost positive that the Richard Alpert that healed Locke's gunshot and gave him his compass and instructions is one that has been living on the island on real time after Ben moved the wheel.

-

  • I just had a thought; What if turning the wheel does create a new 'timeline' of sorts, or send everyone 'new' to the island sort of spinning uncontrollably out of the real timeline until they can sync back up to the island and rejoin the 'real' time? Everyone who's been on the island the longest is effected first because they're already synced up with the island temporally, so the Others aside from Juliette weren't effected at all, and Charlotte was the next one to go-- but she didn't really 'die' like she appeared to. her 'out-of-time' self died, and her consciousness merged back into the current, 'real' timeline? Sort of hard to explain, but I think the idea bears looking at. It would explain why the Others weren't effected at all, and why the longer you've been on the island, the faster the temporal jet lag catches up with you.
  • Hmmm why were several of the comments replaced with comments of your own, totally unrelated to what the original posters were theorizing about? For example I had contributed a previously unmentioned Bible reference (Jacob fighting against God) and it was replaced with a wildly speculative and unrelated to the flow of the discussion theory about the relevance of Christian's watch. Thanks for cleaning up, but if you subjectively disagree with some of the theories posted, don't just eliminate them, rather, contest them with your own views on them. Monster Speaks As Montand? Edit

Should it be noted that after Montand's arm is severed and he is pulled into the cerberus vent, it's not likely he was actually speaking when his voice is heard asking for help. After having his arm sliced off, it's unlikely he would be able to say "Hey guys, help! It's gone". Can it be assumed that the voice is the monster using Montand's voice, as it has done previously? --Tman930 23:16, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

    • I was wondering this too and I think its a good question for Unanswered. I'll put it there.--Lucky Day 01:22, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
      • Ditto. He'd be screaming if he was conscious at all, not calmly saying "I'm hurt, help me."
        • It's him. He sounded pretty frantic to me! If you think it wasn't as dramatic as it should have been, you can attribute it to shock. Even if he was influenced by the monster in some way, it was still his actual mouth speaking the words. --Jackdavinci 17:54, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Also, Danielle states Montand lost an arm, not Montand died from blood loss after losing an arm. It was him. ---- LOSTonthisdarnisland 12:13, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Aha! It may have been Montand's vocal chords and his body making those pleas...but did that come from the real Montand? Just as we have to wonder if that was the real "Robert" wielding a gun on the beach? Something I think we'll get more answers to by series end.--MonsterEatsthePilot 03:23, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

This is all interesting, in light of people "appearing" and "disappearing" to give messages. Like when the psychologist (what's her name, Goodwin's [ex]wife?) appears in the jungle during a rain storm to tell Juliet and Jack something -- and then disappears. Perhaps it was the Smoke Monster running the message for Ben, not actually the psychologist...? Then there is Eko's brother. Maybe even Christian? Could the Smoke Monster talking, looking, and acting like these people explain some or all of these occurrences? --Litany42 22:33, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
