Talk:The Staff

From Lostpedia

The Georgia O'Keefe painting in the background of the medical room seems to prove that it's intention was indeed a birthing center. --Pilotbread 13:04, 11 May 2006 (PDT)

Problem with the theory...

* As soon as Claire escaped was the Medical Hatch abandoned? The locker contained not only the beard & theatrical glue, but also the hat that Zeke was wearing when Walt was abducted. Some people in the past have stated that the Exodus Zeke looked diferent from the Hunting Party Zeke. It could be a different beard... but that was definately the hat he wore several days (if not a week or two) after Claire had escaped. --209.43.65.170 05:38, 3 March 2006 (PST)

I agree - The hatch was more likely abandoned after the meeting of the "hunting party". Of course since the disguises are theatrical, the clothes and beard could exist several times as a precaution. But I'd like to use the easier explanation here.

More interesting to me is the state the facility was in. It was not only abandoned, but stripped or even ransacked - it looked like somebody ripped off everything of value in a hurry and left some things behind. Maybe The Others where alerted by the appearance of Michael, who would have reached them in the Hunting Party episode. --aurora glacialis 05:47, 3 March 2006 (PST)

Is this article still a stub? -C

Don't think so. Although of course almost ALL of the articles need constant work, this one is not really short --aurora glacialis 07:16, 3 March 2006 (PST)

It just seems to me that we've put in everything that we can about the medical hatch. Especially after the inclusion of the map... -C

The Medical Station seems painted after it has been vandalized; The word "escape hatch" are no longer seen in the long corridor neither are the rust stains at the ceileing. I doubt that Michael would have apinted the Station in his rage:)(Lasource8)

I also think it is not anymore a stub. Sorry for the map beeing a little bit distorted. I could not get a 90° angle with \/, but found no other symbols. I'll keep looking. maybe there are html symbols, but that would make editing tideous. --aurora glacialis 06:19, 6 March 2006 (PST)

Scrambling in the exam room

I believe we saw the remains of Goodwin when Jin comes across them as he and Eko go after Michael. The location did look different from where he was killed.. but that might just be me or continuity. --user:MRNasher

Separate Pages

All of the separate pages about the rooms in the staff should be moved here, there is no need to have separate pages agout rooms that are part of this large topic. Koolaidman 18:06, 25 April 2006 (PDT)

It was done this way since the page grew too long and contained too many images. Also, many other articles refer to just the certain room within the station.
Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 19:25, 25 April 2006 (PDT)

I also think they should be merged, the images cluttering up can be solved by putting an image gallery in the article. --Peephole 12:35, 29 May 2006 (PDT)

I think they should stay separate cause otherwise its just too long an article. However, if it has to be merged I agree with what Peephole says about the image gallery (thats a must if it all became one cause those images are interesting).

Too long? No at all, it will be a lot smaller than similar pages like the articles about the Swan or the Pearl.--Peephole 13:49, 17 June 2006 (PDT)

Your right, are the other articles on the stations too long? No, so merge. John LockeBIGGEST fan

"Forced birthing"?

Is that a euphemism for "They're going to cut him out of you and let you die"? Should there be some mention of the Caeasarian they were planning? --Amberjet11 13:11, 25 May 2006 (PDT)

MERGE

please, we must to keep separate the facts that we saw in the TV-show with the lost-experience... one thing has not related directly with the other.. for this, we must to delete of the theories like "Possible connection to the Worldwide Wellness and Prevention Development Program" or something....

and this kind of order is necessary to make at all the site: in the lost-experience themes, we could incorporate the lost-tv show facts (maybe) but NOT vice-versa..

THE TV-SHOWS MUST EXPLAIN FOR ITSELF !!!

Quarantine

I thought there was written "Quarantine" on the door of The Swan... At least on top of the hatch it is. --ShivaTalk 14:57, 11 July 2006 (PDT)

Edit: Also at The Arrow. Is it just a type-o? :) --ShivaTalk 15:00, 11 July 2006 (PDT)

The word "Quarantine" is written inside the hatches, not on top of them.--Tricksterson 06:50, 14 July 2006 (PDT)

Staff Key!!!!

Did anyone else see the key that Ethan Rom opened the Cabinet with!!!! It Had the Staff logo on it!!!!

Image:5_01_10_06_5_24_40.jpg

--And?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lash (talkcontribs) .

I thought this would be quite logical, because Ethan Rom had a bit to do in The Staff station with Juliet on birth research and experimental surgery. So he probably had Staff keys on him to get access to parts of the station, or lockers there.--Nzoomed 14:55, 26 March 2008 (PDT)

Poor Search

It interests me that when the Staff is searched by the Losties, Clair, the French Chick, and Kate, they don't check the door labled excape hatch, or the other two doors by the examination room, even though they are coming to this station specificly looking for things (meds and Alex). Then they just leave.--ASEO 08:06, 3 November 2006 (PST)

Caduceus in Eko's flashback

A caduceus (sp?) is commonly used as a medical symbol. Just because it was on a medical supplies truck in Eko's flashback doesn't mean it's The Staff's logo! I'm removing it from here. If there's an article about the caduceus somewhere else, you should put it there...otherwise, it's irrelevant. --Amberjet11 08:20, 3 November 2006 (PST)

Dark Room

When Clare is walking through the hospital with Ethan, she looks into a dark room, but is pushed buy. Can someone put up a picture of that? ZEKE?(>

That was not a room, but an entrance corridor. --Kemot from Poland 07:04, 9 May 2007 (PDT)

Picture

Can someone upload a picture of the room of doctors for me? I would like it for the Medical personnel article. I don't have the technology for screencaptures, so this would be much appreciated. Thanks!--LOCI!

Proof that DHARMA=Others?

Juliet says to Sun in D.O.C. that the hidden room was used to bring the dying mothers, to hide them, one can assume. Considering the huge security door, what was it's purpose before the purge? And if the Others have no relation with the initiative, what the hell could have been locked in such a place? A monster? --User:Kraken/Kraken - Midnight, 28 April 2007 (GMT)

If you listen closely, I don't think thats what said. Sun asks Juliet about the hidden room and she doesn't answer. Then she asks her "what is this place?" which I take to mean asking what the Staff is, not what the room is. Whatever the original DHARMA purpose of the room, the Others are using it as secure storage. They brought the women to the staff so that their deaths would not been seen by the larger community of Others. Dharmatel4 16:46, 28 April 2007 (PDT)

Writings on the locker

I moved this section to the talk page, because tt is unknown if this writing has any importance to the show. --Kemot from Poland 07:10, 9 May 2007 (PDT)

The writings on the locker

The locker which Kate investigated has some writing in the top corner of the door. It is unknown if this writing has any importance to the show. Possible translations are:

  • 348 / J42
  • 0716 / OTIL
  • ROM / RM
  • FOOL / F001

new logo?

  • Is there any reason the official logo was replaced with the stenciled version? --Jackdavinci 11:00, 26 March 2008 (PDT)
  • A user changed it and the one on DHARMA Initiative stations‎ because that's "how it appeared on the show". The Arrow logo has also been changed. As you point out, these are the stenciled versions of the logo, so in the case of The Staff this logo appeared on the main doors. All the logos inside though were the regular version. The breaks in the border are merely there so a stencil can be used for the large painted logos. So I would say that these new versions should not be used. DHARMA created them with continuous lines, but they had to adapt them to make stencils.--TechNic|talk|conts 11:13, 26 March 2008 (PDT)
  • I changed it, and yes i should of duscussed it here, but the curiousoty got the better of me when looking at the history on the changes, and saw the early stenciled logo there, and noticed it had been changed several times, i then looked at the screenshots on the show and noticed it did indeed have breaks on the edges, same with the arrow station, I thought there may have been some signifance to it for this reason as the other stations never appeared to have it. So it must be more of a production issue, rather than than DHARMA doing it for some purpose.--Nzoomed 14:48, 26 March 2008 (PDT)

"The Staff" or "The Medical Station"?

Where was it ever confirmed that the station is called the Staff? I've never heard anyone on the show call it the Staff; it's always been refereed to as just the Medical Station. Even in Via Domus, when on the Hydra computer it lists out all the stations it says "Medical Station." --James W. 11:55, 27 April 2008 (PDT)

It's marked as "The Staff" on the blast door map - although that doesn't necessarily prove that's its real name. Perhaps we've just used the name that Radzinsky or Kelvin gave it for their map.--TechNic|talk|conts 17:54, 27 April 2008 (PDT)
It also says Staff on the Via Domus blast door map. --Blueeagleislander 19:58, 27 April 2008 (PDT)
While Via Domus is not canon, the show is definitely canon. It's perfectly okay to use that until we have a better source.--     c      blacxthornE      t     02:14, 28 April 2008 (PDT)
But who's to say that the blast door map is canon? All it was ment to show us was the question mark leading to the Pearl. Everything else could have just been a quick, made up sketch for all we know! --James W. 21:00, 29 April 2008 (PDT)

Uh dude, the BDM was confirmed canon (over a year and a half ago) for two reasons. One the producers said so, and two if it's in the show it canon.--The Cartographer 20:17, 19 May 2008 (PDT)

Nevertheless, it was still mearly a little notation on a big painting. Unless the producers have made it very clear that the station's called the "Staff," I still don't believe that it's been fully confirmed yet. --James W. 21:27, 9 May 2008 (PDT)

I agree that technically speaking, from solely the perspective of watching the episodes, one could think that "The Staff" was just the BDM's pet name for the station. But it's been referred to so much by the producers and auxiliary material such as the magazine that it seems silly to think that they will ever decide to come up with some other name for it. And definitely, it's name is not "The Medical Station". That's a descriptive name like calling The Swan "the electromagnetism station" or The Hydra "the zoological station". There's no way they would give all they other stations a fancy name to go along with the symbol and then call this station simply by it's function. --Jackdavinci 23:30, 9 May 2008 (PDT)
  • But I've never heard any official in or out of the show call it "The Staff." And I still stand by what I said about the name comming from a little notation on a much larger painting/map. And the characters dont always call the stations by their official names. E.g. Ben calling the Flame the "Communications Station," or Juliet calling the Tempest the "Power Station," or the Tailies calling the Arrow a "Buncker," or the Losties simply called the Swan the "Hatch." Or that could just be me that I've never heard anoyone call it the Staff. Or maybe I'm just not paying enough attention. --James W. 20:21, 9 June 2008 (PDT)
    • Well ultimately it comes to the fact that there's no rule indicating that the names should actually be heard on the show. The best reference we have so far is the blast door map and since official names are represented with the logos (a swan is depicted in the Swan logo, pearl in the Pearl, flame in the Flame, and so on) so I think it's safe to assume that the name's accurate, at least until further revelation.--     c      blacxthornE      t     01:08, 10 June 2008 (PDT)

Escape Hatch

Hi, Im wondering if anyone can get a better picture of what that device is on the wall right next to the escape hatch.--JPB. T. C. E. 17:46, 2 June 2008 (PDT)
