Date Online[]

I've removed the countdown from the page for the following reasons. We know nothing for sure. The time is weird as it says 00:08:15 which could mean hh/mm/ss indicating 8 minutes and 15 seconds. Also, the date could follow American standards and be dd/mm/yyyy instead of the mm/dd/yyyy everyone is assuming. Also, we know for a fact the game ends on January 31st, 2 hours before the premiere so it can't be Feb 2nd.-Mr.Leaf 08:17, 2 January 2008 (PST)

Yeah I misread it. Stupid European dates.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 08:30, 2 January 2008 (PST)
Do we think the writers of this game are British by the way? The website is stating that its jurisdiction is New York, and says something about being based in Manhattan in the terms and conditions section. Then again, the website format seems similar to those used by the BBC (they have VERY similar easter egg sites like this for shows like Doctor Who and Spooks). Also, they called the December 2006 tsunami the "Boxing Day tsunami" before removing it from Sam's desktop page - correct me if I'm wrong but Boxing Day is a term used in the Commonwealth - or do you Yanks call it the Boxing Day tsunami just like we call September 11th 9/11 even though we would place it 11/9 technically? (i.e. its just one of those things) --Nickb123 (Talk) 08:41, 2 January 2008 (PST)
Part of the game is being worked on by a company named "Hoodlum" based out of Australia. See the whois for the-maxwell-group.com and the Hoodlum website.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 08:44, 2 January 2008 (PST)
Haha that Hoodlum site says they controlled the Spooks site like I said. I love being right :-) --Nickb123 (Talk) 08:50, 2 January 2008 (PST)
The three-part timestamp for UTC is not unusual. It specifies 8 Min/15 sec after midnight UTC. The seperated date with "/" is unusual for such a timestamp. For what its worth, the US east coast converted time would seem to be January 31, 2008 at 7:15pm. Dharmatel4 09:34, 2 January 2008 (PST)
That makes alot of sense, as they said it'll end 2 hours before the premeire. Oh their site is gonna crah hard then, as glitchy as it's been during updates. --Gluphokquen Gunih 06:08, 9 January 2008 (PST)
I agree with Dharmatel4's timing. I'm at UTC+0 time. Thus the site was "expected to be back in service" at 8 min, 15 sec after midnight Feb. 1 (7.15pm US Eastern Time). But nothing happened, nothing changedOodles 17:32, 31 January 2008 (PST).

details on the website internals[]

The Maxwell group website actually internally redirects back to pages on find815.com. Nothing is currently done with the usernames/passwords. Any password/username given results in the same script being executed that gives the error message. Dharmatel4 09:39, 2 January 2008 (PST)

Sort-of. It's not a redirect, but a frame load from within the index page on that domain. Also, since we don't know the source code of the script, it could easily still have a working username and password. If you look at the source for the page from find815.com you can see that the form actually passes the username and password to the login.php.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 09:42, 2 January 2008 (PST)
Your right about the terminology. But login.php gets called regardless of the password/username value given and its source is:

xhtml> xhead> x/head> xbody>

h1>Authentication Server Temporarily Down/h1> The server is currently being serviced. It is expected to be back in service bybr> 02/01/2008 00:08:15 UTCbr> br> Click a href="http://www.the-maxwell-group.com">here</a> to return to homepage /body> /html>

I'm pulling the page in via the URL before anything is executed and thats all thats there. I can't find a path in the source where anything else could be called unless its an exact file match for login.php plus pw/user parameters. Dharmatel4 10:07, 2 January 2008 (PST)
The php script won't show its full source code in your browser. You'll only see the resultant html that's generated by the script. Even if you just save the php file you won't see what's truly there. Look at the index.php for this server for example and compare it to the index.php you get with mediawiki.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 10:20, 2 January 2008 (PST)

There is a Greg Maxwell who is a snake specialist[]

Wizard of Oz[]

On the Maxwell Group page, the East and West are reversed. I've noticed in an Oz Chronicle book I have, they show a map of the land of Oz and have a compass where the East and West are reversed.

AH/MDG[]

Any relations with the blast door map? Isn't that A(lvar) H(anso) / M(axwell) D(?) G(roup)? Andreapasotti 06:53, 9 January 2008 (PST)

istockphoto watermark[]

The istockphoto watermark is completely different. Where does the info come from that the ouroborus at the centre of the compass is a watermark? I suggest that information be removed. The ouroborus symbol is worn by Ms Hawkins. Oodles 15:09, 31 January 2008 (PST)

Anything with regard to it being an ouroborus is a theory. If you think the watermark is different, you need to show some proof. Dharmatel4 15:41, 31 January 2008 (PST)
Ok. See this compass for example (I just pulled a random one)Oodles 17:28, 31 January 2008 (PST)
The stock photo was actually from a different stockphoto site: Compass stockphoto. Note that the symbol in the centre had however been slightly altered for the Maxwell Group logo. Interestingly the E-W reversion and the 75 degrees instead of the correct 30 degrees are part of the stockphoto and hence may have had no meaning at all in terms of the ARG.Oodles 16:06, 7 February 2008 (PST)
A comparison between the stockphoto and the (old) Maxwell logo shows that the latter has been altered. Oodles 05:14, 13 February 2008 (PST)

Talbot Media release[]

The page has been updated to include:

"Media Release: Oceanic Flight 815 Discovery Expedition leader Oscar Talbot speaks about the remarkable discovery by the Maxwell Group of Oceanic Flight 815 in the Sunda Trench.

The servers were slow, but I listened to the interview. It's about 4 minutes long, and I didn't hear anything of immediate interest

site is accepting login attempts now[]

Login attempts now generate a message that the user/password is wrong. Dharmatel4 21:36, 31 January 2008 (PST)

I've been getting that some of the time and the old message some of the time--Herarat 21:41, 31 January 2008 (PST)
I think what many people will temporarily see is old cached versions of the page lingering in various places. I had better luck sometimes looking directly at the pages on www.find815.com/TMG/index.html Dharmatel4 21:59, 31 January 2008 (PST)

As of February, 2, 2008 - about 1:00:00 UTC the Maxwell Group Website appears to have been taken down. (Not Found. The requested URL /TMG/index.html was not found on this server.). Oodles 01:23, 2 February 2008 (PST)

The site is actually still there. But the directories it depends on at www.find815.com have either been moved or removed. It could be related to their overall redesign of the site. It might also have been taken down because the new content they put up ruins the ending for all those new players they seem be trying to attract. Dharmatel4 02:32, 2 February 2008 (PST)
Agree. It was down for about 10 hrs. Back now, redesigned. Link to Talbot still there though. Compass internal logo has also changed. Looks less than ouroborus now, more like a mirrored g perhaps. If compass is aligned to N and then mirrored to point properly W the needle points to 293 degrees. Oodles 05:35, 2 February 2008 (PST)

YouTube clues[]

A YouTube search for Maxwell Group brings up a vague video about the Maxwell Group. It has flashes of 4, 23, and 8, but also, interestingly, the words "SNAKE" and "MAILBOX". The user has a random name and only one video, having only joined about a week ago. Seems like a clue (btw, the l/p is not SNAKE/MAILBOX, tried it)--Herarat 21:46, 31 January 2008 (PST)

[[1]] says that the codename for the season's big secret is Snake in the Mailbox...so I think we'll definitely hear some Maxwell Group connections this season--Herarat 12:09, 1 February 2008 (PST)
My mistake, that was about season 3. Still sounds like something relevant though to me

OK, so I tried to post this in the forums, but they never sent my activation e-mail. This may not be anything other than a fan trying to look official, but I still think it's worth investigating. The video can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8d6iOgACnk , and the user's name is D5n1i8F, which is, of course, FinD 815 written backwards and mixed in together. The description says, "Ask to know", so I sent the user a message that said:

"The description for your Maxwell Group video said, "Ask to know," so I'm asking, what's up with the video?
Also, what do "SNAKE" and "MAILBOX" mean?"

I got a response today that said:

"JACOB LOVES YOU
Turn the tape over.

Namaste
A. Mullins
The Maxwell Group
Laboratories"

I thought particularly interesting was the "A. Mullins". If it's a fake, at least the maker's done his homework. Anyway, I've tried listening to the audio backwards, but haven't found anything interesting. The audio file is at http://mywebspace.wisc.edu/dburke2/web/maxwellgroup.aiff . I don't have software that would reverse it, I could only play it backwards, so that's the forward version. I also didn't convert it to a smaller file type, because I didn't want to lose any detail. Maybe someone else can find something. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Herarat (talkcontribs) .

Well I did some reversing and slowing down of the audio and found out that it was footage of a monster underground. (Cloverfield Monster Anyone?) --SU182 05:07, 7 February 2008 (PST)

James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in Hawaii[]

There is a James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in Hawaii: "With a diameter of 15m the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) is the largest astronomical telescope in the world designed specifically to operate in the submillimeter wavelength region of the spectrum. The JCMT is used to study our Solar System, interstellar dust and gas, and distant galaxies. It is situated close to the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii, at an altitude of 4092m." Perhaps the LOST writers have taken some inspiration from this? Oodles 16:13, 7 February 2008 (PST)
