Interview

This is not a hoax, in case you were wondering. Lostpedia has arranged an interview with Michael Emerson, the actor who portrays Benjamin Linus in the show. It's going to be done over email - I emailed Michael's manager, who has been very supportive and agreed to pass on your questions to Michael. So, here is where you guys come in. You have around 2-3 weeks to submit questions; as I've said before, I will probably be unable to ask every question submitted, so don't be offended if your question isn't asked. What you have to remember is that Michael has probably been asked all the obvious questions before, so try and think of something original to ask.--  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  09:44, 10 June 2008 (PDT)

Question Submission

  • Post your questions under here.--  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  09:44, 10 June 2008 (PDT)
    • Back in Season 2, when you were known as "Henry Gale", did you know he was an Other? We've heard the original plan was to have you for 3-4 episodes, so what was your impression? Did you create a back-story by yourself? And if you remember, what was the casting call for Ben's character? Great job, you're a terrific actor! Your performance surely deserves an Emmy!  ODK Talk   Sandbox 10:11, 10 June 2008 (PDT)
    • In other interviews, you appear to know a substantial amount of information about your character which has not been revealed yet on the show. How much do you actually know about your character in advance? -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  16:35, 14 June 2008 (PDT)
    • Besides the two Ben-centric episodes ("The Man Behind the Cutain" and "The Shape of Things to Come") what are some of your favorite episodes of Lost? -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 16:41, 14 June 2008 (PDT)
    • To portray such a complex and dynamic character as Benjamin Linus, it must take so much time, effort, and imagination. What do you like best about acting as him and why? -- #1LostFan  talk  contribs  Lost Wiki  17:22, 14 June 2008 (PDT)
    • Through the years Ben's character evolved and changed, at first we knew him as Henry Gale ,the frightened peaceful character from Minnesota, then there was the calm and creepy Other's leader/dictator who used Jack to save his life, later we saw the cruel power-hungry side of Ben during the flashbacks of the purge, then we saw the emotional side of Ben aftermath Alex's death, and then back to the cruel power-hungry side of Ben when he killed Keamy. My questions is "Which side of Ben did you enjoy acting the most?"-- Orhan94  Talk  Contribs  15:08, 15 June 2008 (PDT)
    • Your character has many layers; people are left confused as to whether he's the good guy or the bad guy. My question is how far do you relate to Ben? Are you an extremely cunning liar? Or even a guy who "always has a plan"?-- 4 8 15 16 23 42  talk  contribs  email  15:18, 15 June 2008 (PDT)
    • What do you think are the personal religious/philosophical views of Benjamin Linus? In the episode "Dave", while still posing as Henry Gale, he says to Locke: "God doesn't know how long we've been here, John. He can't see this island any better than the rest of the world can." But in "The Cost of Living" he asks Jack if he believes in God. When Jack asks the question back at him, Ben replies: "Two days after I found out I had a fatal tumor on my spine, a spinal surgeon fell out of the sky. And if that's not proof of God, I don't know what is." While this answer is slightly ambiguous, it reflects a different view on religion than what he said to Locke. Ben also has the Quran and a book on Indian rituals on his bookshelf. So what do you make of all this? And if you want to answer, what is your personal worldview? Number 23 04:12, 19 June 2008 (PDT)
    • Which Season have you enjoyed working on most? And Why?

Question Submission Over

  • Hey guys, thanks for all your questions! There's some very interesting ones there. I'll let you all know when the transcript is up! :)--  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  08:23, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Why is this taking so long? Don't you just have to type it up? If you are having trouble send me the mp3 and I'll type it up in one day. --Kain067 11:53, 13 August 2008 (PDT)

    • This interview will be posted soon. I have a schedule that I am adhering to. I have the entire transcript, and will probably post it in the next week or two. Please be patient. Thank you.--  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  06:44, 29 September 2008 (PDT)
      • Heh, I would like to consider myself a fairly patient individual, but come on we're all rippin our hair out waitin for January 21st to roll around and it sure would be nice to get to see this interview already... • In the next week or two? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tranquility (talkcontribs) .
Calm down. The interviews are very tedious, and if you have nothing more to contribute than "hurry up," then I'd suggest you'd find something else to do. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  09:21, 27 November 2008 (PST)
Yea I'm pretty sure that we will make it another couple week or even weeks, the show doesn't start for another month and a half and it will be nice to have an interview with a main character right before the show is just to kick off and it will give us a great 5th year. Why be in such a rush, enjoy the last two years of LOST and make it last because before you know it we will all over, we're going to know the secrets so just be pataint and enjoy the interviews when they come, it's not easy.-- SawBucks  Talk  Contribs  15:23, 4 December 2008 (PST)

What a nice guy...

What a great Christmas present, after months of waiting for this!  #1LostFan  talk  contribs  Lost Wiki
Thanks for posting this! I enjoyed reading it.
Great inteview we had here, I love the big one's, they give us so much more bang for our buck, good job Lost Soul. By the way, were did all the questions come from? There wasn't that many submitted for some reason so did you come up with them Lost Soul?-- SawBucks  Talk  Contribs  00:07, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Many of the questions were taken from those submitted on this page and on the forums. I did some extensive editing - rewording, reshaping and merging, predominately, while still keeping the essence of the question intact. I also added a few of my own. But I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)--  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  14:37, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
Okay that just rocked! Especially when he started talking about Shakespeare! Wish I'd known about this sooner and could have submitted questions to trigger his brain on the subjects of theater and writing. Here's a guy who's spent his lifetime studying the spoken and written word - a man so good at what he does that he was originally hired on for three episodes, and ended up being kept for three or four seasons. The producers of Lost realized after the first Dailies came in, what a fountain of gravitas this actor brings to their unorthodox stage. Thankfully our questions weren't limited to his Lost experience. However, take note that most of the Lost-oriented questions caused him to write only one or two sentences, while a request for information about Shakespeare caused him to go on far more eloquently and at length! Discussions about the history and content of theater are definitely areas in which he's confident and excels! We would have gotten more out of Mr. Emerson had we let him talk about what interests him, not what interests us. ZachsMind 11:16, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
