The Hydra Station exists? --dusuarez 10:19, 4 October 2006 (PDT)

There was a page for it before, but it was deleted because the info came from preview screenings. Now that it has been mentioned in a podcast I don't know if it still counts as a spoiler. --Minderbinder 10:26, 4 October 2006 (PDT)
The logo is seen in the third scene released, showing a glimpse of Sawyer's situation. [1] The first scene shows Jack waking up in some hatch, and the second shows Kate meeting Henry Gale for breakfast. --Fezir 10:48, 4 October 2006 (PDT)
On the podcast they joke a lot though so it still might not be true.--CaptainInsano
Well, it's here now. -Platypus Man | Talk 20:17, 4 October 2006 (PDT)
I just want to know why there is a table in the room that was used for housing sharks. Valenzetti 20:31, 4 October 2006 (PDT)
Anyone else thinking The Hydra may be the island's zoological research station? The animal enclosures, feeding systems, and all the ambient animal sounds in the area seem to fit the bill. Sam 00:01, 5 October 2006 (PDT)
i think its a room used for treating and working on the animals... can be flooded enough to allow work on the animal and restrain them with the chains. --MRNasher

The Hydra is mentioned in the Constellations theory. Any thoughts?Dchapii 20:38, 4 October 2006 (PDT)

I will try to make a logo for the hydra.

Can you help me with this picture I can't get it to work.

Thumbnail error - I can't fix... anybody? --Brother 09:28, 15 October 2006 (PDT)

Aquarium?Edit

Why would there be an intercom inside of an aquarium? --Doc 11:22, 5 October 2006 (PDT)

Im not sure what your question means, but would it be a common sense to have an intercom below water in order to commuincate with people above water? --    Nusentinsaino     talk    contribs    email   2:44 PM, 5 October 2006 (EST)

Yes, but the intercom shown looked like a standard office job, not a hydrophone. It would have shorted out if put under water. --Doc 12:03, 5 October 2006 (PDT)
I assume the intercom was either intended to be used when no water was in the tanks, or was in the section that wasn't supposed to be filled with water, where the people would stand and observe. --Minderbinder 15:00, 5 October 2006 (PDT)

Are the cages part of the Hydra? Edit

I'm not convinced that the Zoo facilities and other above ground buildings we've seen are part of the hydra. What is the evidence that they are? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Uth (talkcontribs) .

One of the above ground buildings has the hydra dharma logo on it. --Minderbinder 14:58, 5 October 2006 (PDT)

Hydra.jpg

How about the shower room? Edit

I was under the impression that it was in the above-ground complex, but I may have been wrong... --Mighty Rearranger 15:14, 5 October 2006 (PDT)

  • Yes, I think so. There are windows with light coming in and you can see the shadows of trees blowing in the wind. That way we know it's not artificial light like in the Swan. --Fezir 23:45, 6 October 2006 (PDT)

i was wondering about what is written on the top of kate's locker: it's says "Lyon 841". Lyon is a french city on the Rhône river. Could the DHARMA initiative have bought some of its furnitures in France ? locker.jpg

Why is it in the show Edit

Can't help but wonder if the Hydra was created because of the 'shark logo' snafu and the insistance that the cable on the beach lead to an underwater hatch (personally i still think the cable was just part of the trap.. it was too lazy a thing for a loose cable to be just left exposed and broken on the beach.)

Another by-the-by I guess the drips that Jack tasted were salt water and thats why he spat them out. --MRNasher

Ethan Edit

Ethan came from the water, when he killed one from the survivors (that's when he wanted to kidnap Claire second time) Gregul 02:43, 6 October 2006 (PDT)

Aquarium? Edit

What if that room is not specifically the 'aquarium' Jack was talking about. In that scene you can hear what is possibly dolphins or orca sound effects.. So they are nearby or below the large containment tanks. I would have guessed that the chains above him are for assistance with lifting sick dolphins onto the treatment table. That would also explain the airlocks corridors that can be filled with water. When an animal is sick, or due for treatment, you half fill the corridors with water and guide the animal into the treatment room. Then while it is being treated it can easily be kept submerged for its own comfort while under observation.. Just a thought..

  • That's what I was thinking. I knew that Jack's actual room couldn't have been an "aquarium" - it looked more like an operating table. --Fezir 19:28, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

In "I Do", does anybody else notice the, what looks like, dolphins swimming behind Juliet when she and Ben are in the room with Jack.

                                            -Fate 11/9

Just another mind-game. Edit

When the water floods in its obviously under some sort of pressure or weight against the door.

Ben states that they will die if its opened. But they didn't. Didn't even seem to come close to dying.

Famously you can only close a door under the pressure of water once you have equalised the pressure on both sides (why you cant open a car door under water until the car is flooded to the level of the door)

So did Ben turn off the water so it could be closed?

The more i think about it the more i think it was a set up to give Jack some hope of escape and dash it. It certainly helped break him by the time Juliet started he next session with him.

The trick of getting Jack to press the button was good.. distracted him enough for a sucker punch. I tprobabvly either drains the water or does something that has nothing to do with the water situation.

--MRNasher

This is interesting if you think about what happened to Kate, Jack and Sawyer once they were imprisoned in the Hydra.
  1. Sawyer has been demoralized by being forced to perform animal tricks to get his food and failing in his escape and being "darted" by Juliet.
  2. Kate has been demoralized by being forced to wear the dress and eating breakfast with handcuffs next to Ben, yet knowing that "the next two weeks" are going to be very unpleasant.
  3. Jack has been demoralized by being imprisoned in his tank, having to sit in the corner to get his food and, like Sawyer, having his own escape attempt foiled. Incidentally he was knocked out by Juliet as well.
All three have had their spirits broken by the Hydra in one way or another.Evan

Purpose of the facilityEdit

I was wondering. We have had some clues (through the Lost Experience) as far as I know concerning regeneration and/or manipulation of aging. What if this hydra station (with its reference to regenerative creatures) has that as its main purpose. That is why that orangutan doesn't age, and why we see Marvin's arm move in the second video (seemingly much more recent). Maybe they were testing regeneration and age manipulation on animals first. --Inniscor 10:23, 6 October 2006 (PDT)

MergeEdit

I'm hoping for a merge with Cage. That other article was written before the season premiere, one of the reasons I think these kinds of things should be started after the show only, and things become clarified. The cage is in the aboveground section of The Hydra (as indicated by the logo just outside the cage). If it's merged, "Cage" will just redirect here. --PandoraX 10:45, 6 October 2006 (PDT)

Merge Well, it's part of The Hydra, I say merge just like we did with The Staff. --Gateboy42 17:05, 6 October 2006 (PDT)
Merge Same place, same article --NSHS07 19:02, 6 October 2006 (PDT)
Merge from me as well, at least until we find out more about all of the cages...--MightyRearranger 19:18, 6 October 2006 (PDT)
Do not merge: are the cage and the hydra station the same thing? nope. cage should be a disambig page (we have three cages in s03e01.), and hydra should contain a link to jack's cage or similar, imo. --kaini. 19:39, 6 October 2006 (PDT)
But the cages are part of The Hydra. If we linked to them, we'd also have to create pages for the aquarium, shower room, DHARMA water etc... without knowing their full importance as of yet. I think we should hold off on these items until at least the third episode.--MightyRearranger 19:51, 6 October 2006 (PDT)
Do not merge: The Hatch, Swan Computer, Gun vault, and Blast Door Map are all part of the Swan but they all have their own articles. I think we should wait and see if anything more develops with the cages, or perhaps turn the article into an above ground section of the Hydra. Paladine 07:55, 7 October 2006 (PDT)
Merge--CaptainInsano 08:10, 7 October 2006 (PDT)
Merge (but keep the name 'The Hydra') and add an overall map. I could see creating sub-pages for the sections of this large location. Dmuk § 13:06, 7 October 2006 (PDT)
Merge --Peephole 14:10, 7 October 2006 (PDT)
DO NOT MERGE!!! Exactly what Paladine said! If the Cage page doesn't get its own article, than why should the Swan Computer, Gun vault, etc.?? Besides, we can always have this as a separate page, and have a link to it on the Hydra's page (ie. Main article: Cage). --SilvaStorm
I agree with the man with the large bold text. -Chris[dt7] 07:54, 9 October 2006 (PDT)
Do Not Merge: The cage has a number of aspects (similarities to a skinner box, the food dispenser, etc...) that when detailed make up a full article on their own. If these details were moved into the Hydra article then that article would either become huge, or the details would have to be eliminated and useful or entertaining information would be lost. The other areas in the Hydra (aquarium, showers) are interesting to note, but do not have the same level of detail as the cage. --Doc 07:47, 9 October 2006 (PDT)
Do Not Merge There seems to be a whole seperate sequence of events that will unfold in the above ground cages. Within the context of the show these are different from the undergound/water hydra. At least wait until we learn more. I think we are going to learn more about the "under-hydra" and the cages therefore article size will continue to grow to unreasonable length. --thatguy
Do Not Merge The Hydra is a location and Cage is another location. The Cage MAYBE (not confirmed yet) is part of The Hydra Station. Maybe the pipes are from underwater station and pass around the pipes, but the Cage is not included in station. So early to propose a merge. I propose to remove Cage citation in The Hydra article.--dusuarez 10:30, 10 October 2006 (PDT)
What do you mean remove the cage citation from the hydra article? --Minderbinder 11:42, 10 October 2006 (PDT)
The topic "Aboveground Section of the Station" in The Hydra article is a supposition. The tubes that appear near of the cages come from underwater Hydra, but the cages maybe is not a section of Hydra Station.--dusuarez 09:40, 11 October 2006 (PDT)
We know the above ground section is part of the hydra because the hydra logo is visible from the cage. --Minderbinder 09:51, 11 October 2006 (PDT)
Do Not Merge The Cage should have its own story with saywer and kate --Bassdude 11:34, 10 October 2006 (PDT)
Do NOT Merge I think the there is enough information here to justify its own article --Latca 10:05, 11 October 2006 (PDT)
Do Not Merge Seeing as it has cameras and many story plots may evolve at this location, I've changed my mind. Keep it. --Ohmyn0 13:42, 12 October 2006 (PDT)
Don't Merge Changed my vote - while I think it's perfectly clear that both sections are in The Hydra, there seems to be enough material about each to justify a separate page. --Minderbinder 12:24, 13 October 2006 (PDT)
Comment after the revelation of the observation room in TGB, this article will be very, very long if all the content is merged. that's not so much a problem with The Staff, because it was featured in one episode in flashback, but it's looking like the hydra is going to feature in the first six episodes of season 3 as much as The Swan did in season 2. so strong do not merge. --kaini. 19:01, 13 October 2006 (PDT)
  • I think there's enough clear desire to keep the two articles separate, especially post Glass Ballerina, that I'm removing the merge tags. --Jajasoon 20:10, 13 October 2006 (PDT)

Station Number Edit

The Hydra is Station 5. Evidence of this can be seen at http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/galleries in Season 3, picture #41. Ben is standing in the area where Jack is being held, with the numeral 5 clearly stenciled on the wall behind him. PrimaryTyler 01:01, 7 October 2006 (PDT)

The Pearl is station 5. --The Smiley-Faced Balloon 02:01, 7 October 2006 (PDT)
Well, we have the Arrow as 1 (Possibly), Swan as 3, Flame is likely 4, and Pearl is 5. So that leaves 2 and 6. Juding by the appearance of the station, i'd say this is 2. --Gateboy42 04:57, 7 October 2006 (PDT)
I think it could have referred to room number 5, as in there are multiple parts of the aquarium (for different methods of research). Isn't there a station #7 mentioned on the Blast Door Map (unlikely due to water table activity)? Maybe it was originally intended to be completely above ground, but an odd change of tides flooded it...--MightyRearranger 06:51, 8 October 2006 (PDT)
Yeah, what the hell? It's obviously just a door number or something. Pointless. --SilvaStorm
In Blast Door Map is mentioned "Alleged location of aborted #7 large number of underground springs heavywater table"--dusuarez 10:55, 10 October 2006 (PDT)

Bold text

Walt's intitals Edit

The article states that "Walt's initials can be seen engraved on the wall behind Jack when he is sitting on the floor with his back against the wall." Do we have a source for this? I have searched the internet and I cannot find any other mention of the initials, nor can I find a screencap that shows it. The original edit adding it seems dubious; spelling mistakes and a user whose only edit is this. Either somebody find a source (preferably an image) or delete the info. -Platypus Man | Talk 07:46, 6 November 2006 (PST)

Location Edit

Moved from the Article's Theory section. --Doc 08:50, 10 November 2006 (PST)

*The Hydra may have an underwater opening located on the dock at
the Pala Ferry, explaining how Colleen and her crew were
able to get on the sailboat without being seen/heard by Jin
and Sayid.
**However, Benjamin said to Juliet in Every Man for Himself
that the "sub was back." This implies that the Others have access to a
submarine, and this is how they accessed the boat Sun was on.

Hydra Myth Edit

It's very interesting: "The Hydra was the offspring of Typhon and Echidna (Theogony, 313), noisome offspring of the earth goddess, Gaia. It was said to be the sibling of the Nemean Lion, the Chimaera and Cerberus." [2] See? The brother/sister of Cerberus. --andreapasotti

Purpose of The Hydra Edit

It might be good to revise the actual purpose of the station considering the facts which can be observed in S3E7. The facility where Room 23 is located appears to have The Hydra logo which suggests that the station is not necessarily for zoological research only. Psychology is likely to be studied and/or such techniques applied.--Stan 12:51, 9 February 2007 (PST)

Edit

Hydra logo ep9.jpg

The logo is shown on the Stranger in a Strange Land episode in the room where Juliet is being judged. Should we add this screen in the main article ? --Evil^^ 07:33, 23 February 2007 (PST)

  • IMHO I don't think that we should add it. If you want to put it under the section labeled "Deliberation Room", by all means do it. --Marik7772003 08:35, 23 February 2007 (PST)
    • Yes in principle to Marik's suggestion, but at the moment the article has enough images, and adding one for every subheading would make the appearance a bit tacky. --Nickb123 (Talk) 08:36, 23 February 2007 (PST)
  • There seems to be an alternate version of the logo painted on the facility that hosts room 23: [3] MrEvers 02:33, 16 August 2007 (PDT)

Tunisian Dig Edit

Well, now. That dead Polar Bear with the Hydra collar in the middle of the Tunisian desert sure complicates this page. How should we edit that in? The "Trivia" mention isn't nearly enough.--Ex-Pope Cardinal Richard Corey 21:51, 7 February 2008 (PST)

  • I had the same thought and started a new section. The present name may be lacking, however, so it could be changed. Vegan T-Rex 21:59, 7 February 2008 (PST)
