Talk:Temporal displacement

Back to page

DifferencesEdit

I'm concerned that we have two different things going on that happen to have the same symptoms.

  1. Personal temporal displacement, such as that displayed by Desmond in "The Constant".
  2. Group temporal displacement, such as that displayed by the Survivor/Science people from "Because You Left" through "LaFleur".
  • Desmond, Daniel, Brandon, Minkowski, Regina, Theresa Spencer and Eloise the rat were all victims of or suffered from the personal type. Their consciousness shifted back and forth between a "base point" to other points in their pasts. It was a lonely experience. Desmond, Daniel and Theresa have survived the experience because they have identified their constants, although we're short on details about Theresa.
  • The Survivor/Science group shifts (flashes) from one time to another as a group, watching their numbers dwindle. The flashes destinations were not necessarily during their own life spans; the 1954 experience and, probably, the view of the giant statue are two exanples. They also did not have a base point. There is no solid indication that having a constant had any impact on the situation. Daniel — lucky guy — knew the identity of his constant and flashed anyway.

I think these two types of temporal displacement need to be managed/viewed separately. That doesn't imply separate pages. --Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 15:28, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

This page is meant to refer to the illness, the "side effects". It is not meant to refer to the time travel itself (be it mental or corporeal), which we already have an article for. Robert K S (talk) 19:09, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

CanonicityEdit

How come we have an (featured) article about a term which is officialy non-canon --LOST-Hunter61 05:08, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Uhh, I thought it was at least semi-canon? What's your source? --Blueeagleislander 05:18, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
The Lostpedia Canon policy, as linked --LOST-Hunter61 08:02, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Being unstuck in time is canon; this is just the proper term for it. IMO it's no different than having an article called jewellery that features rings, watches, etc. even if "jewellery" is never mentioned by that term in canon. ---- LOSTonthisdarnisland 10:09, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
After all we have articles named without even a deutrocanon or semi-canon source, such as Hydra Island, The Door, Beach camp battle, Blonde casualty etc. --Orhan94 10:32, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

contradiction Edit

  • Why is Locke listed as a victim on the table, yet there is an UQ "Why didn't John Locke display any of the symptoms of temporal displacement?" which is contradictory to what he article claims. --Orhan94 23:03, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
