Steve is really dead[]

Over at the LOST Wiki (ducks and covers), there's an interesting analysis explaining how it really is Steve that died, and that they're still confusing them.

For one, the actors have discussed it in nesr detail over on the Fuselage. Dustin Watchman (Scott) continues to appear on the show, and Christian Bowman (Steve) confirmed he was the dead body in the sand.

As well, it mentions Ana-Lucia going out recruiting for the army, and saying she got "The big guy behind Sayid, and Scott". It wouldn't have made much sense that Ana-Lucia would mix them up, since she came to the camp long after Steve died, and she probably spoke directly to Scott.

We might have to search for some more proof, but maybe we should make a Scott and Steve article, and a way to prove who it really was.

NOTE: I posted this same descriptive, word for word, in the Scott Jackson discussion page just seconds ago, so I'm just confirming I plagiarized myself out of laziness.

  • Please post the source URL (at Fuselage or elsewhere) for your information in as part of an External links section, it would be valuable and interesting as part of the main article! Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  23:02, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

Steve in the Hotel[]

I remember the scene where Steve was seen in the hotel with Michale and Walt, but that wasn't in Exodus...

  • Yes, it was. It was during Walt's flashback at the beginning of Exodus Part 1.

When was he named Jenkins?[]

His last name was never mentioned in the show, and, unless I'm mistaken, it was never given in the credits, either. So, where does the last name Jenkins come from in association with this character? JoserKyind 18:34, 8 April 2007 (PDT)

See the credits for ("The Moth"). Also Bernard mentions a Jenkins on the island in ("S.O.S.") (though one could argue he doesn't mean Steve I suppose). -- Comedy240 18:41, 8 April 2007 (PDT)
Actually, in the actual credits at the end of "The Moth", they only list Steve's first name. The same is true for the credits at the end of Exodus Part 1. I know this for a fact, because I just checked. So, the question still remains. When did the last name, Jenkins become associated with Steve. -- JoserKyind 19:31, 8 April 2007 (PDT)
Personally, I think that the name Jenkins was never specifically stated by the producers. My guess: Someone posted it on IMDB, and it caught on from there. --Hen-Regale 05:33, 21 August 2007 (PDT)
Totally agree.
His name is in the official script of "Raised by Another" when Hurley is doing the census. You can see it here (PDF), page 23A. I know it didn't make it to the show, but it's definitely in the script. Blackannis 02:57, 4 September 2007 (PDT)
What do you know, there it is. Steve Jenkins. I think that's pretty convincing, but officially, unused portions of official scripts are still non-canon, as they never aired and the writers could theoretically put across different information in the future. So, I'm not sure. -- Graft   talk   contributions  02:49, 26 November 2007 (PST)

Rename[]

I propose a rename to Steve, as Jenkins is not fully confirmed as his last name. See above topic for prev. discussion. --Blueeagleislander 05:26, 30 August 2007 (PDT)

Rename - If the name Jenkins hasn't been mentioned then definetely a rename is in order. random2502 11:14, 3 September 2007 (PDT)

Do Not Rename - Other characters, such as Rose Nadler and Bernard Nadler are named via near-cannon information(s), for consistancy, Steve's surname should stay (or Rose and Bernard's should go ...) Besides, IMO, a near-cannon surname is still an interesting information. Also, wasn't it also used by official cast and crew members on The Fuselage ? --LeoChris 23:16, 22 December 2007 (PST)

Leave as is - it's on the script -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 00:38, 29 February 2008 (PST)

Do Not Rename - The full name should be used. --CTS 19:24, 2 March 2008 (PST)

Do Not Remane - We have good sources that his last name is Jenkins. (I.E. the script) And plus, every other charecter has a last name on.

Rename--James W. 15:04, 27 March 2008 (PDT)

Do not rename if it says "Jenkins" on the script --Phil (talk) 15:10, 27 March 2008 (PDT)

Do not rename + source As with other characters whose last names are contentious (i.e. Goodwin and Colleen) but make it clear in the Trivia section that the source for the last name may not be canon. --Jackdavinci 09:30, 28 March 2008 (PDT)

I'm removing the tag as a consensus of obvious. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  20:39, 6 April 2008 (PDT)

Name stuff[]

I added the justification for the last name in the trivia. Just to clarify, after Bernard asks for "Jenkins" in SOS, does Steve end up making an appearance? For those who have trouble with PDFs in their browser, I copied the relevant unaired portion of the script where Hurley takes census: --Jackdavinci 15:04, 7 April 2008 (PDT)

ON HURLEY in census-taking mode, jotting stuff down as he converses with SCOTT and STEVE, on the move.
HURLEY: Okay, so it’s Scott Jenkins...
SCOTT: Jackson.
STEVE: I’m Jenkins. Steve.
HURLEY: Right. Steve... Jenkins.
(then)
And you dudes were on vacation in Australia. Just the two of you... Together.
STEVE: Yep.
HURLEY: So... Safe to assume... I mean, I guess you’re, uh... I mean, you two are... y’know...
(gay)
...Married... Or something?
Scott and Steve share a look.
SCOTT: Nah. We’re both single.
(re: Steve)
And my buddy’s got serious commitment issues.
STEVE: No, I don’t.
(back to Hurley)
Just haven’t found the right person yet.
ON HURLEY, somewhat uncomfortable as Steve looks at him. The ambiguity of these two guys’ relationship still ambiguous.

Did the podcast kill off Steve instead of Jerome?[]

  • There's been some talk that the 5/8/08 Podcast says that Steve is dead. For the record, here's the relevant portion of the transcript:
Damon: Carlton it's been killing me, I know steve supposedly went with Locke so I want to know if the first meatsock that got shot was in fact Steve?
Damon: Steve - was that him?
Carlton: No, that was actually Doug.
Damon: Now, Doug was the guy who was holding the wood [they giggle], but then somebody else comes running out of the - out of the - house behind him, and there is speculation that that is in fact Steve.
Carlton: Oh yeah, that, that -
Damon: That was Steve
Carlton: [Sadonically] *That* guy was Steve.
Damon: That was steve. [giggles]
Carlton: He wasn't the *first* guy shot.
Damon: Exactly.
Personally, I think they were just joking around. The question is whether the first person shot is Steve, and Damon is very serious sounding when he says it's Doug that is shot first. Then Damon brings up the idea that maybe it's the second guy shot, and Carlton agrees, but by this point they are giggling and Carlton is replying sardonically. But I'll leave it to others to battle this one out. I'll just say, if Steve is really dead, then this leaves Jerome's fate in the air, since we had him tagged as the second meatsock. --Jackdavinci
Correction- - Jerome was shot third, second was the unnamed blond woman. The point is the same however. --Jackdavinci 07:57, 13 May 2008 (PDT)

Producers have said that the podcast shouldn't be considered canon. In the event that something seen on the show contradicts something stated in the podcast, go with the show.  Jimbo the Tubby  talk  contributions  21:57, 8 May 2008 (PDT)

I think we have to assume that ALL the members of Locke's group other than Hurley, Ben, Sawyer, Claire and Miles are dead. They wouldn't have just left one of them behind. I don't imagine Steve suddenly appearing back at the beach saying "hey it's me, I was hiding in a bush during the attack!". Steve was just not important enough for them to bother showing his death on screen.--Lauridsen77 12:17, 9 May 2008 (PDT)

I think the producers were mistaken when they said Steve went with Locke. Isn't Christian Bowman in these two promotional shots with the beard and the blue/white plad shirt? - http://bp1.blogger.com/_RrObyQ3XzcY/SA9qtHUII4I/AAAAAAAAXgg/2Wb0JOoHtxc/s1600-h/112675_146_pre.jpg - http://bp2.blogger.com/_RrObyQ3XzcY/SC3L8Wk2Z_I/AAAAAAAAYpo/2cmgbWh-70E/s1600-h/112801_319_pre.jpg If not, do we know who that is? --DesmondExMachina 12:09, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

Steve is alive[]

Steve should be listed as alive because he is seen in "There's No Place Like Home, Part 1" & "There's No Place Like Home, Part 2".
Scott-4x12
--Ryan76el 09:01, 3 June 2008 (PDT)

I'm fairly sure that's not Christian Bowman. Looks like Dustin Watchman, though. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  21:30, 17 June 2008 (PDT)
I thought when Scott died, Christian (Steve) left the show and Dustin took his role as Steve. I think I read that on a interview between them, I could be wrong.--Mistertrouble189 03:49, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
Your right, because Dustin (Scott) still appears alive after "Homecoming". Either they lied about their names or Dustin just took the role of Steve. --Ryan76el 06:52, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
I'll be sure to ask Christian Bowman what exactly is going on. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  18:19, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
Might as well as ask Dustin Watchman too haha--Mistertrouble189 18:23, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
Hana, no seriously. I'm doing an interview with Christian Bowman for LP tomorrow. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  18:48, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
I know I was saying he could be all confused about this too, but if he doesn't know ask Dustin too.--Mistertrouble189 07:39, 19 June 2008 (PDT)
I can't find contact details for Dustin. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  08:13, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Steve is in Season 4[]

Steve is seen alive in "There's No Place Like Home, Part 1" & "There's No Place Like Home, Part 2". I know it's Dustin however after "Homecoming" Dustin appears alive however Christian disappears. (Look at the Background cast/middle section survivors page. Therfore Dustin played Steve after "Homecoming" because Christian left. Also look at the Scott & Steve page on lost.wikia.com --Ryan76el 14:09, 26 June 2008 (PDT)

Christian Bowman has confirmed this. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  14:43, 26 June 2008 (PDT)

Major Edits[]

It turns out that Christian Bowman has not been on the show since "Homecoming," as stated on his actor page on this wiki. Apparently his was the body found on the beach, and he has not been seen on the show since. Dustin Watchman, however, has continued on the show. The other characters still seem to think Scott died and Steve is alive. Scott, however, has been seen as recently as the Season 4 finale. --Castaway815 16:58, 26 June 2008 (PDT)

Listen. If the show has explicitly stated that Scott is dead, let's leave him dead. Christian Bowman has told me in a soon-to-be posted interview: "There was a mix up indeed. I had met Jack Bender and auditioned for the part of Steve and got the role. When I was on set, Jack had decided to give one of the extra's a 'bump'. This extra was Dustin Watchman. When the Homecoming script was released, the writers were unaware that I was the actor who had played Steve and wrote that I would be killed. Obviously I was sad as I absolutely loved my time on Lost, but I looked forward to it. I think, and I could be wrong here, but I think the writers found out about the mix up and tried to submit the rewrite after I had already played the part. Therefore, Scott was murdered, but I, playing Steve, was buried and Scott was alive and present at his own funeral. At this point it took on another twist as part of the running joke between which one was Steve and which one was Scott. I'm thrilled that I was part of the cult aspect of the show and the first to be buried on the Island! Jack Bender decided to bring me back for a little part in Exodus Part 1 as well...". -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  17:34, 26 June 2008 (PDT)
Funny, the way I read it isn't that Watchman now plays Steve. It's that Scott is still alive and Steve is dead. --Castaway815 10:46, 27 June 2008 (PDT)
The way I read it is that it's meant to be unknown, and it's unclear as to which is alive and which isn't. However, since it is so confusing, we must rely on what has been stated in dialogue, making Steve be alive and Scott dead. Simple as that. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  11:00, 27 June 2008 (PDT)

Credit[]

  • We need a very basic fact to be added to the article. Could someone go through the episode infoboxes to see which episodes actually list actor Christian Bowman in the ABCMedianet credits? Please add this information to the main intro section of this article. Exodous Ditto for the Scott article. For Steve, I'm guessing it's only two episodes: The Moth and Exodus Part 1. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  23:10, 30 June 2008 (PDT)

picture[]

His picture is a bit pixelly...--Mistertrouble189 14:15, 11 October 2008 (PDT)

  • I agree. I just added a different pic. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 14:20, 11 October 2008 (PDT)
  • Woot much better. Also, should Dutsin Watchman be added to the infobox since he portrays him now?--Mistertrouble189 16:31, 11 October 2008 (PDT)

Island Interest[]

Can someone explain how Steve has an island interset like Rose, Bernard, and Frank. What does this even mean?-- LostCloverfield42  Talk  14:48, 16 March 2009 (UTC) I agree, what does this mean? It makes no sense. I am going to remove it. --Jtmoore 05:01, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Death?[]

As far as I'm aware, it's never actually said that Rose and Bernard are the only survivors. Is there anything at all which suggests that no-one else survived? Aridd 13:39, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

  • Well the producers said many people died in the flaming arrow attack, they didn't show anyone else who survived besides the main cast + Rose & Bernard. If there were other survivors, you'd think they would all had reunited over the course of 3 years..It was like housecleaning of the 815 survivors :( --Mistertrouble189 20:15, February 5, 2010 (UTC)
    • Well some survivors who fled in the jungle could live isolated just like Bernard and Rose. It's a big island... I think a better status could be "Unknown; Presumed Dead".--Sid-Vicious 14:18, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

Episode count[]

Does anybody have a list of what episodes Steve actually appears in? While you're at it, if you have one for Scott too I'd appreciate it. I've looked around but I can't seem to find anything that gets me to the 20-count on his page.  Jimbo the Tubby  talk  contributions  07:47, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
