Missing Template

I made a missing segment template. Check it out at Template:MissingSegment. If I figured this right, every segment that's released so far will fill in a gap (it will have continuity at both ends with one of the clips we have). That being said - it made sense to me to stress breaks in continuity. If anyone else wants to update the template, go for it. I also think I missed a few places - the total count of objects in that list should be 70.

Peace -Hjfreyer 08:21, 1 September 2006 (PDT)

  • It seems like a good idea. I think it's better without the image, though - it makes the template considerably taller. Without it, I can just about see the fragments before and after it at the same time (on my puny 1024x768 screen), and I think being able to do so helps in seeing where the gap is and what might go there. -- Makomk 08:41, 1 September 2006 (PDT)
    • Yeah - Good idea. Looks much better now -Hjfreyer 08:50, 1 September 2006 (PDT)

The Orientation film on the Swan was in a video spool, the one from the Pearl was on a U-Matic film. Is this one in a U-Matic film too?

I think so because when the video gets those 'interferences' it sounds like the U-Matic film.

What do you think? --Armin76 10:48, 1 September 2006 (PDT)

Subhead edits

This is in regard to two edits, re-ordering the subheads so that the article begins with transcripts, and moving an external link from the text within the subhead itself to a bullet point.

  • Reordering: As a non-TLE follower, when I dip into this TLE article, I want to know what the essence of this 'sri lanka video' is. Is it important? What does it tell me? The puzzle aspect is a major part and intriguing; nonetheless it is of secondary importance to the non-participant. Therefore I simply switched the subheads so that the article's first subhead after the header splash text is Transcripts rather than video segments. As a non-TLE follower, I was simply confused looking at the list of video fragments, and nearly gave up reading the article at all. Only after choosing to scroll down and searching through an enormously long article, did I find the transcript section, which contains the essential information from the body text of this article.
  • Subhead external link: In general, main subhead text should not be wikified or made into an external link. This enables other pages to link directly into that article's anchor, e.g. Sri Lanka Video#Transcripts

Before aotw

  • Suggestion: Before renomination for AOTW, could some fairly neutral party go through the current Theories section as it exists now, and adjust the section so that it is in sentences and paragraphs, rather than a scattering of bullets? -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 13:22, 3 September 2006 (PDT)
  • Removing Bullets-- made a start in converting bullet lists in the Theories section to prose. IMHO this task should be done throughout the Theories section before renomination for AOTW, especially since the bullet lists are becoming inconsistent, convoluted, redundant, and more obviously unorganized. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 02:06, 6 September 2006 (PDT)

GMX18BCJ Transcript

  • To me it sounds like he is saying "If you are watching this film, you already know I have worked with Gerald and Karen DeGroot...". Does anyone else hear this?--CaptainInsano 13:58, 3 September 2006 (PDT)
I hear "...and have worked" myself but I can see where you're coming from. That guy is plastering on the fake Danish accent so much it makes him mumble a little --Nickb123 (Talk) 14:00, 3 September 2006 (PDT)

After the episode on Channel 4 (UK) at 10pm Tues 5 Sept 2006, the glyph 7DKR was found during a voiceover on the credits. As I don't have an account on the net at Hansoexposed, I thought other members might wish to unlock this one.

Oh, and the K and R were a bit blurry, so if it's not right, try an H or a P or something close.

You mean 7C8R?

71 Glyphs?

There is curently 71 glyphs/fragments listed in the sequence. I'm guessing one of the missing fragments is messing up the numbering. --elpaw 23:09, 5 September 2006 (PDT)

  • Just noticed 7C8R joins up with RGMR; this results in a net loss of one missing fragment, bringing the number of list entries down to 70. -- Makomk 03:38, 6 September 2006 (PDT)
    • There are still 5 place holders for missing segments yet only 4 fragments left out there. Some of these segments have to be continuous. I'm thinking that maybe RGMR is continous with 56lhzjdc17a4 and there's just a glitch because it's the end of the reel. Thoughts?--Mjm3 07:48, 6 September 2006 (PDT)
      • I counted all spaces in this video and found out that there probably must be at least 75 fragments. Maybe there are other place holders? Sithoid 08:16, 6 September 2006 (PDT)
      • RGMR being continuous with 56lhzjdc17a4 makes sense, looking at them. Unfortunately, the new fragment v4umma means we'd still have 71 (unless I've placed it wrongly, but that seems really unlikely). - Makomk 13:35, 6 September 2006 (PDT)

TOO MANY MISSING SEGMENTS! One of these has to be wrong. I know continuity is messed up for all of the "in-between spaces" But all these "missing spaces make up 71. Or the lost experiance just messed up, hehe.

10. 7TI
12. 3ZGT
42. 4R19Y0UXB6Y
48. 2NG39Z

Here's our little diagram of where the miussing segments are in relation to the video. I'm starting to think that 7TI links right to 3ZGT, and there's a splice in the film. --Aero*Zeppelin 21:09, 6 September 2006 (PDT)

Maybe these last missing segments will be released as parts of phase 4 & 5. Perhaps they have valuable information that is missing from the video (i.e. what is the Valenzetti equation... and why the DHARMA Initiative failed. --User:Dirtyu 00:24, 7 September 2006 (PDT)

I was just trying to update everything. 71?! What the hell. I've had to join up Alvar at the end of his cameo --Nickb123 (Talk) 02:31, 7 September 2006 (PDT)

Anyone else think this new glyph should go between NARVIK and 4HO? "We have tried to change those values by manipulating the environment in many many ways..." "..and in spite of every effort of the Foundation, we are gripped in the tyranny of those 6 numbers." "We have done our level best, and yet..." etc. --TonyPeanuts 05:48, 7 September 2006 (PDT)

  • Ah, perhaps not - the image fits much better if ZR2JI goes immediately before NARVIK. --TonyPeanuts 06:00, 7 September 2006 (PDT)

summary needed

  • Now that the video is complete, the article needs a concise summary at the top, preferably replacing the speculative text in the beginning of the article in the header section. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 02:23, 9 September 2006 (PDT)

On this part: "...but I promise you, someone is going to hell..." (GLLV8B) - don't you think that he says: "someone is going to help us" ? --Luizim 08:37, 9 September 2006 (PDT)

Now that we have a full continuous transcript...

...Can we get rid of the segmented transcript, which references each code? Reason is because we also have the templates below that, which say where each segment transcript is, it would be redundent. Otherwise, starting to look really good, and I'm about ready to nominate this for AOTW. --PandoraX 20:53, 11 September 2006 (PDT)

  • Agree; this page is massive and hardly needs two transcripts. -- Chris 02:55, 12 September 2006 (PDT)
  • This article can have two purposes: 1) Describe the Video 2) Describe the ARG process that produced the video. If the goal is 1) only, then we can remove all of the segments. If our goals include 2), then segmented transcripts are an important record. In that case, we should keep those records and perhaps put them in a subarticle, e.g. Sri Lanka Video/segments. What do you all think? 1 or (1+2)? -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 03:50, 12 September 2006 (PDT)

Probably jus tme but the theory seems off in the weeds.

Mittlework is talking to people in the last few weeks (one week before ComiCon) so I don't see it 'Others'. He is talking to people who are going to go into yet another village like Yemi's supposedly with the cure but really to study the dead. While Macaques are one of the widest spread primates out their I really don't see how we can infer the island.

I don't think there is any evidence to suggest Rousseau changed the radio transmitter to transmitt her message. Her message was picked up on VHF (Military dual band) and the number were being broadcast on Longwave (Leanord's naval listening post). I do think Rousseau's broadcast gives some credence to the theory that her team was an elite military tema sent to the island to end the project (again, military dual band radio and her survival skills).

Mittleworks reference to 'Radical action' is in reference to the unleashing of geneticly enginered virus to change the 'human factors' in the Valenzetti equation now that attempts to change the environmental factors have failed (The Polar Bears are still aggressive and territorial).

Video segment time (1/1000 sec)

Are the three decimals in the video segment times necessary?

If they add up nicely to the total duration of the entire video then keep the decimal places. Otherwise, they are meaningless.
  • Project: Someone please add up all the numbers of the 70 time segments, and report the total. Then we can decide which decimals, if any, to keep.-- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 12:35, 17 September 2006 (PDT)

Breaking up the article

This article is far, far too long. It needs breaking up into segments. -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  02:46, 18 September 2006 (PDT)

How about splitting it into two, arguably everything from "Video by segments (70)" down is no longer relevant and could be placed into a secondary article "Sri Lanka Video Segments"? --ActiveValue 03:53, 18 September 2006 (PDT)

  • Splitting the segments is a good idea. The only reason we have kept these is as a record of the progression of the game which generated this video. Removing the video segments AND transcript segments section to a subarticle would be a possible solution: Sri Lanka Video/by segment -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 23:25, 19 September 2006 (PDT)
  • I'd go with splitting off the segments. Transcript by segments can just be removed. --Peephole 18:16, 5 October 2006 (PDT)

  • Don't rename - This is not a video that has this name because it is about or from Sri Lanka. Instead it's the iconic centerpiece of the Lost Exp. storyline and its raison d'etre. Therefore IMHO it is its own entity, and a proper noun, especially in the fan lexicon. I might be convinced otherwise, but at this point, I'm very much leaning against renaming. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 01:59, 29 November 2006 (PST)
  • Don't rename - Same as above. --   Dee4leeds  talk  contribs  all  02:17, 3 December 2006 (PST)
  • Dont Rename - Well put santa, names fine the way it is. ZEKE?(>
  • Don't Rename--CaptainInsano 08:06, 3 December 2006 (PST)
  • Don't Rename Opinion same as ideas above. --Marik7772003 08:42, 3 December 2006 (PST)
  • Removing rename template as per discussion. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 21:03, 5 December 2006 (PST)

United States Millitary Footage?

  • does anyone know if all that footage used is from the US millitary? i know the ones of the explosions are, but the video of the scientists with the biological and nuclear experiments i am not sure about, im sure ive seen it somewhere else, but im trying to work out if the producers of LOST actually made the footage of the DHARMA stations being built and the helicopter supply drops and antenna etc, what does anyone else think? id like to find the actuall source of alot of it anyway.--Nzoomed 15:49, 20 May 2008 (PDT)
