Ziad Jarrah

I have a theory that Sayid's name alludes to Ziad Jarrah, one of the September 11 plane hijackers. I don't suppose Cuse, Lindelof, Andrews or anyone else ever mentioned him as an inspiration for the name? Lostpedia doesn't mention it anywhere - there's a few 9/11 allusions in Lost as well, Sayid stopping terror in Australia etc. - would it be worth mentioning in the article? --Kakao 21:44, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

  • Like in the trivia section? Ocie14 talk contributions 21:46, October 4, 2010 (UTC)
  • That should be placed on the "Theory" page for Sayid as it's exactly that. Also, Sayid's presence in Australia wasn't really an allusion to 9/11. --Jf518 11:14, October 5, 2010 (UTC)
  • If anything, I'd say Sayid's character (at least in The Pilot) was an allusion to the massive racial profiling of Arabs that followed 9/11. i.e. Sawyer accusing Sayid of sabotaging the plane. It also occurs in the flashbacks in Exodus, when airport security arrests Sayid for suspicion of terrorism (thanks to Shannon) and the passenger on Flight 815 who stares at Sayid as soon as he sits down. Of course, we then learn that Sayid had a really dark history, but he spent the entire series redeeming himself, and in the end he was successful. I don't really know what the point of all that is, except to say that, no, Sayid was not a 9/11 allusion. --Celebok 09:04, October 6, 2010 (UTC)
OK, let's just leave it at that. It's not much else than a namesake, probably intentional, but not on a deeper level. Just thought I should point it out. --Kakao 10:57, October 7, 2010 (UTC)

Sayid's Television appearance.

What was the reason Sayid was on the TV in S2E9 What Kate Did? It looked as though he was being arrested for something but the clip was so short it is hard to see clearly. Does anyone have any insight on this?--Deucedub17 21:59, 12 January 2009 (UTC)deucedub17

Timeline and reason for saving Hurley

Sayid stopped working for Ben after two years, and went to work for a charity ("The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham"), but then came back and broke Hurley out 2 days after Locke died ("Because You Left"). The problem with this, I think, is Sayid tells Hurley that Locke died 2 days ago ("Because You Left"), but he also states that the man has been watching Hurley for a week from outside the facility ("Because You Left"). Since Sayid never spoke to the man about Hurley, then Sayid must have been watching the man watching Hurley. Other than Locke's death, what else would prompt Sayid to leave the charity and go to the States to watch over Hurley? Even if we do not have all these answers yet, this article needs to make the situation more clear because obviously Sayid was back for at least a week before he breaks Hurley out, else how would he know about the guy there for a week? ---- LOSTonthisdarnisland 01:34, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

  • That's a good point. I would guess Sayid sniffed out the man Ben had watching him and started to get concerned, figuring that Locke would lead a trail to Hurley (I guess he wasn't as concerned about Kate and Jack?). He was probably laying low and keeping an eye on things until he learned of Bentham's death. Also, we don't know for certain about the motivations of the economist for wanting Sayid captured alive (likely to find out who Sayid was working for), but that could have been an extra danger to worry about as well. -- Graft   talk   contributions  02:38, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Editorial

"If Jack is a man of science, and Locke is a man of faith, Sayid is a combination of the two. " Isn't this user opinion? I say remove it. -- Xbenlinusx 04:26, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

  • If it were me, I'd leave it. Whoever put it there qualified their statement, and that qualification does seem consistent with Sayid's character. He believes in facts and evidence, but at the same time is driven by intuition. Illyrias Acolyte 15:21, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Spelling

I'm not suggesting it be changed, but i believe the correct transliteration of his first name is Sai'id. Mathewbrooks 15:46, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Sayid and The Flame

I think there is a special connection Sayid and The Flame. I don't know what connection, but a special connection.--Station7 08:51, November 10, 2009 (UTC)

Maybe someone has some ideas?--Station7 08:52, November 10, 2009 (UTC)

And you're basing this on what, exactly? The two times he's been there? --Celebok 11:27, November 12, 2009 (UTC)

Sayid's Birth Date

In LA X Sayid has a custom's form that shows his birth date as 4-25-72. You can see it when he looks at the picture of Nadia in his passport. Mindsuckr 21:44, February 3, 2010 (UTC)mindsuckr

Jacob

Is it significant that Jacob didn't touch Sayid in his life until after Sayid got off the island the first time? When Nadia was killed, even Ben was off the island. Jacob didn't appear to have anything to do with getting Sayid on flight 815, like he did all the others. Sithboy 06:54, February 24, 2010 (UTC)

Accents of those "infected"

Has anyone but me noticed that both Sayid and Claire speak differently than before they were "infected"? I first noticed it on Sayid and now Claire's is a little muffled and different affect. Could just be me--Phryrosebdeco23 09:13, February 24, 2010 (UTC)

Motivation

In "The Greater Good" Essam says to Sayid something like "What if I'm doing this because I'm angry. What if I'm doing it because they killed her" It's ironic that Sayid works for Ben because Nadia was killed by "them" and joins Flocke on the promise of bringing her back. Birthdate

Under the originaland alternate timelines on this page Sayid's birthdays are different, is that a mistake or did I miss something in the episodes?

Handedness

  • We can assume Sayid is ambidextrous because of his left-handed way of playing golf in "The Economist" and his right-handed shooting of a pistol in the same episode.
    • Not necessarily ambidextrous in all skills. Phil Mickelson is right-handed in all things but golf. He plays left-handed because he mirrored his father when he was learning.
      • Shooting is more about eye dominance than hand dominance, many right handed people shoot left eyed, so a left handed person may shoot right eyed. Less important with a pistol than a long arm as most proficient shooters can shoot a pistol with either hand so perhaps the right was just more convenient instead.
