Table
Edit
- I'm trying for a weekly ratings table for each season for the US. To nail down the actual format of the table, I'm beginning only with Season 4. Each rating must have a reference, and as I'm relatively unfamiliar with ratings sources, there is always some issue as to whether the rating in any particular source is overall, or the 18-49 demographic only. Also, daily rankings are dependent on the demographic. Digging through Nielsen's site is difficult, and Hollywood Reporter seems to have total demographic ratings, whereas other media articles frequently cite the 18-49 bracket only. Weekly rankings are also given. It's also interesting to see what beats Lost in the weekly battle-- is it another show like Idol, or a special event such as the Superbowl? ... and is it during Sweeps, when crazy gimmicks are produced by all networks? (The final table should note sweeps weeks). The final average ratings is also significant. Finally we also have viewers, ratings, and share. The bottom line is the process of deciding the final format of the table should take into account the existence of all of these items, whether or not they are all listed in the final format. Anyone familiar with these issues can help. ALSO, the DVR/Tivo issue should be noted (I believe Nielsen began recording those recently) and if possible incorporated into the table. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯ Talk 01:59, 4 March 2008 (PST)
- Note to self: investigate sl-lost.com for their sources for ratings. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯ Talk 15:01, 15 March 2008 (PDT)
- All the information i'm finding is inconsistent. I just wanted to see which episode has the highest ratings share to date. I think it is Man of Science, Man of Faith with a +13 share. --MathewBrooks 08:26, 14 April 2008 (PDT)
Seasons 1-3
Edit
I filled in Santa's table for season 4 but now we really need to add in season 1-3. Most wiki sites have rating info for their shows so we really need this but i couldn't find one place for all the Lost ratings. Anyone have any ideas? --Anfield Fox 05:03, 4 June 2008 (PDT)
Research source
Edit
- Looks like tvbythenumbers.com has archived ratings information to complete the U.S. ratings table by episode. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯ Talk 01:05, 8 October 2008 (PDT)
- Where can i find the archive on the site? I don't mind taking the time to fill out the tables for the other seasons, actually it would be fun! :) --Anfield Fox 03:28, 8 December 2008 (PST)
- Thank you that would be great! Let me look at it, the site appears to have changed since the last time I posted the above. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯ Talk 12:45, 9 December 2008 (PST)
- OK, well one source is through the ABC part of the site, either click the ABC icon, or go straight to the ABC archives here. It only goes from December 2007 however, and furthermore I'm not familiar enough with Nielsen terminology to know what the titles of each column means; that will have to be explained in the article somehow. It seems like it all is sourced from Nielsen, so if we could get a better source for that information, that would be great. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯ Talk 12:52, 9 December 2008 (PST)
- Am i allowed to copy a small part of how the ratings are interpreted from Wikipedia? It would help people understand it if it was included in the article. This link explains it very well. Sadly as you said the link you provided doesn't go back far enough for season 1-3. I will keep looking though, that info has to be online somewhere. Maybe the Nielsen site. - If at all possible we shouldn't copypaste from WP, and when we do, it should be a short and cited quote. It is not necessary to define what a Nielsen rating is; however the terms used to describe the data included in our article should be explained. If you have some sample text, we can work on paring it down starting from quote. Thanks again for your help, I'll keep trying to search for ratings sources for earlier seasons. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯ Talk 15:51, 11 December 2008 (PST)
- Found all the rating on ABC! Already done season 1, will have season 2 & 3 done ASAP and will re-do season 4 as well. Also added a small explanation of how the ratings system works and updated the introduction. This page should look good when it's finished :) --Anfield Fox 06:34, 12 December 2008 (PST)
- Excellent. Wow that's a lot of hard work, please keep it up! This article is already much improved! -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯ Talk 18:02, 12 December 2008 (PST)
- Ok, im all done now on this article. At least until season 5 starts. The section on Australian broadcaster needs to be done and it would be cool if we could expand the Australian and UK episode ratings but that's unlikely. The only other thought i had about the ratings was to put the number of viewers for each episode on every episode page, perhaps in the top right corner box or in the trivia subsection. Just an idea though --Anfield Fox 23:55, 13 December 2008 (PST)
- In the infobox would be pretty cool. --Blueeagleislander 00:18, 14 December 2008 (PST)
- Great. If Santa or one more Sysop agrees i can do them. Two questions: How do i edit the info box as when i tried a preview on a page it didn't work and where on the info box do you think would be best? Below the airdate? --Anfield Fox 02:15, 14 December 2008 (PST)
- In the infobox would be pretty cool. --Blueeagleislander 00:18, 14 December 2008 (PST)
- BTW the numbers for Eggtown and The Constant are incomplete because ABC issued a different type of press release for those two weeks. They do provide the Rating but only for 18-49 demographic while the rating for every other episode is for all demographics. Just wanted to point that out incase someone decides to fill them in.--Anfield Fox 00:00, 14 December 2008 (PST)

It looks like TV Tonight will be a good source for Australian ratings next year. --Blueeagleislander 19:32, 9 December 2008 (PST)
