Removed Reference to Death[]

I removed the reference to Chang dying in the Purge. It's possible, perhaps even probable, that he did, but since we have no information one way or the other on his fate, we should not say that he's dead. --Pennyj 01:36, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

  • We have information about his death from the DHARMA Booth Video, but it is possible that Chang's source was mistaken and he only thought that Pierre was dead. --Crash815 02:54, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

From Ann Arbor, Michigan - Source?[]

When as it made clear that Chang is from Ann Arbor, Michigan? I don't remember ever learning that, if it is true it adds much fuel to the 'chang as mile's father' theories.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Timeshifts (talkcontribs) .

  • Dharma booth video: "I am the professor of theoretical astrophysics from Ann Arbor, Michigan."—The preceding unsigned comment was added by gaarmyvet (talkcontribs) .
    • Might we remove this now the Booth vid has been officially declared non-canon? I know it seems a bit far to go, given that this piece of info is most likely true, but hey, if it's been called non canon now I guess we should remove it?--Integrated (User / Talk) 17:28, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Miles' Father?[]

With Miles having bloody noses in "This Place is Death" indicating he'd been on the island before, could he be the baby Dr. Chang feeds in "Because You Left?" --Talkster 11:09, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

  • This is more appropriate under the theories section (someone correct me if I'm wrong). --Crash815 16:30, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
  • You're right; I'll add something.--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 18:48, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Status?[]

  • Shouldn't his status be deceased hence the DHARMA Booth Video?--JinxTalk Contribs 16:09, 30 August 2008 (PDT)
  • Fixed--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 17:18, 30 August 2008 (PDT)
    • Disagree. Since he wasn't dead at the time he recorded the video, he is merely presenting information that he has been told: "a man named George W. Bush" and "something called Internet" are phrases that show that he is uncertain of them. Until proof is shown, he must be considered Unknown. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Edwallols (talkcontribs) .

Possible name connection.[]

I was reading about Ursa Major... M108 - Messier 108 - A spiral galaxy that is in Ursa Major (Big Dipper). This galaxy was discovered by a man named Pierre MeChain. --kansasgal71 20:02, 14 December 2008 (PST)

That might be a little bit of a stretch. Interesting fact, though. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  20:08, 14 December 2008 (PST)

His names[]

Dr. Marvin Candle, Dr. Mark Wickmund and Dr. Edgar Halliwax make him sound all candle-related haha. Is this intentional?--Mistertrouble189 03:58, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Pierre?[]

Pardon my ignorance, but could someone remind me how we know what his real name is? I heard the DI workers call him Dr. Chang, but where do we find out his name is Pierre? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jdnosilla (talkcontribs) 04:28, 22 January 2009.

  • His first name was revealed in the DHARMA booth video during the DIRP. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 04:29, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Also, I was just rewatching last night's episode and the guy that interrupts the filming of the orientation film calls him Dr. Chang. Crash815 18:18, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Darlton referred to him as Pierre Chang in the latest podcast.--Cabin fever 03:05, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
  • In the episode "Namaste," this character introduces himself to Jack as "Pierre Chang." And in the episode "The Incident," I believe Radzinsky addresses him as "Pierre." WeeBeestee 21:01, December 28, 2009 (UTC)

Name Reference[]

  • Pierre could be a connection to Pierre Curie, husband of Marie Curie. His famous Doctoral studies were on the subject of Magnetism. [1]
    • Maybe his wife is named Marie Chang... Nick2010 23:21, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
  • Pierre Chang is an unusual combination of a French name with a Chinese surname. Surprisingly, the same holds true for the actual name and surname of the actor, Francois Chau. However this could be explained by presuming that, (as the actor François Chau himself) Pierre Chang is of Cambodian (or Vietnamese) descent. Cambodia being a former French colony, a French surname is possible, especially for someone likely to be born in the 30's or 40's like Chang.
    • I'm pretty sure Chang is American. He could just as easily be Jimmy or Bobby or Danny. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DanVader228 (talkcontribs) 2009-11-29T02:03:44.
  • I think Daniel referred to Chang as Chinese, which if I were Chau I might find a bit offensive - saying that because he is 'asian' his character would fit being Chinese. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Integrated (talkcontribs) 2009-05-31T12:26:19.
  • I just posted that Jesus called Simon Peter the Rock of the Church, ie, the first Pope. I think my post needs to be merged with the previous post about the keys to the kingdom, but I don't want to mess up the careful and informative links regarding the apostles. I hope the person who posted about St. Peter will revise appropriately.--Lana hibner 17:58, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

thread. Constructive criticism welcome.

Added note on BYL[]

If a 30 second, lineless Libby FB at the end of Dave counts as a "centric episode", then I get the feeling the opening of BYL (clearly from his POV) counts. --Golden Monkey 22:43, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

  • I'm unsure, I don't know how to describe it - but I wouldn't go as far as saying "Because You Left" was a centered on Chang. Libby played a big part in the narrative of "Dave" and was central to the story while Chang has no relevance to the main story of "Because You Left". Also, the episodic pages list "Because You Left" as having no centric so I propose we remove this for now, to keep up some concordance between the pages on the site. --Jamie-0408 20:18, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Baby In Background? (from Unanswered Questions section)[]

Could the baby heard in the background be the baby boy born to Horace and Amy in "LaFleur"? Interesting that so far as we know, only one baby has ever been conceived and born successfully on The Island... -Voo 00:20, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

It's probably Pierre Chang's son. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  00:25, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
What makes you say that? Or are you just guessing? -LOST-Voo 07:12, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
It's just very, very likely. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  11:30, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
There's a lot of background noise about ability to give birth on the Island based on the women of the Others dying during their second trimester. No one ever said Lara Chang didn't give birth in Tahiti and come home.

Not Really Chang ?s[]

  1. Who was his reliable source that gave him information from 30 years in the future?
  2. Who is the man filming his transmission and arguing with him?
  3. There is a baby heard in the background, was this baby born on the island, and if so, how?

shouldn't these point to the comic con video page or something? not directly about chang really.--moss ryder 08:20, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Main Image[]

Hey guys, can you please change the new main image (in the Infobox) for Pierre Chang? I think it's too much creepy... LOL --   Calick    talk    contributions    email   02:05, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Disagree. I didn't put it there but I liked it when it first came up and still do.--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 13:15, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
  • Shouldn't we change the picture in favor of one where he is facing the camera ? --LeoChris 17:13, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
  • It's not a portrait gallery; the image should draw us in.--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 20:28, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Order[]

Ok currently the events of "Because You Left" are written before the events of later in the season. However there is evidence this should be after. In "Some Like It Hoth" Chang states Miles is 3 months old and we see him, whereas in "Because You Left" the baby looks older than this. Also considering Faraday returns to the island and says "long time no see" to Miles, we can presume he's been gone longer than 3 months? Can we change the order? --Integrated (User / Talk) 15:49, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

I agree. It makes sense that way. -- Graft   talk   contributions  17:06, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Agree. --LOST-The Cartographer 17:51, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
I disagree. The key to the order is Faraday, not baby Miles. It would be extremely weird that Faraday, dressed like a scientist in "Some Like It Hoth", becomes *later* an anonnymus workman in the excavation... The baby age must be a goof. Next episode will tell...User:themobymartin
Different aged babies hired for two separate scenes, Chang explicitly states his baby is three months old.. doesn't seem like a goof. Faraday dressed like a scientist then goes to work at the Orchid - seems feasible. He does seem to be doing construction work, but he probably has a reason. --Integrated (User / Talk) 08:43, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
He disguised himself because he is a scientist, not a construction worker, and is not allowed down in the Orchid. That also explains the reason he hid his face when Chang walked past.--Silentweapon 00:46, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
you were right, Integrated! User:themobymartin

Recall both The Swan Orientation Film from 1980 and the most recent Comic Con video in which Candle/Halliwax revealed himself to be Pierre Chang. A lot of people have mentioned that Chang looks at his arm when talking about The Purge in the Comic Con video. Keep in mind that if the generally accepted time line is indeed correct, then the Comic Con video was filmed in 1978, The Swan video was filmed in 1980, and The Purge occurred in 1993.

  • Regarding the CC08 video, recall that he knows that The Purge will occur. He probably also knows about his arm which is why he looks down at it for a short time.
  • The DHARMA booth vid has been officially de-canonised now, and given we see Chang's arm crushed at the Swan site by the drill, we might presume that is the reason for his prosthetic. --Integrated (User / Talk) 17:19, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Credited appearances?[]

Has Chau actually ever been credited for his portrayal of this character? I can't remember. Illyrias Acolyte 20:51, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

  • No... not as Pierre in Season 5 that is. Though LP policies are that a characters appearance is counted only if he is seen, unlike Aaron or Guy in car both whom were credited in "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" and "He's Our You" respectively, though neither appeared. --Orhan94 23:06, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Why does he keep going uncredited? Anyone know? --Redsoxfaneb 16:48, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Can someone please explain to me why Lostpedia always says Francois Chau is always uncredited, WHEN he is quite clearly credited as a guest star by ABC in every episode he appears in! --Frw22 13:41, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
  • He is credited by ABC medianet, but he's not credited on-screen in the episodes he appears in. Not the same thing. (See Alexandra Tobas) --LeoChris 15:16, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Chang's Arm[]

I don't think it's been removed yet because, unless Chang was working on sets to make those orientation movies, he still has his arm in the Orchid video.--Gibbeynator 00:29, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

maybe I'm wrong but, Sawyer sad if he can't stop that thing in the incident parts 1 and 2 and Pierre Chang answers. Has those two caracters met each others? --Station7 17:21, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Seventh Flashforward?[]

When did Pierre have the seventh flashforward? Whats the evidence for this? He's never had one has he? -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  02:18, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Potentially new unanswered questions?[]

Why does Dr. Chang appear to be an astronomer in this clip? When in the timeline do these events occur? Cander0000 05:49, February 8, 2010 (UTC)

Page needs linking[]

Page needs a direct link to the theory page like the others. I am new to wiki and do not know how to do this, but this is the page containing theories on chang:

http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Talk:Pierre_Chang/Theories

If anyone could add that to the right of discussion, that would be great

Museum[]

When did we see that Chang and Charlotte work together at a museum?! User:Lash/sig 11:29, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
