the plane is most definatly not a beech runner, removed - Mikey 08:38, 24 May 2006 (PDT)

Theory: There is something inside?[]

I still think that we will hear more about this plane. Kate is not so insane, she would not risk so much just for a souvenir. I guess there might be something hidden inside this toy. Or it has any other meaning - like being a key or password to something. --Perpetka 12:12, 20 August 2006 (PDT)

The plane only became really important to Kate sometime after leaving it in the back seat. If it was worth shooting someone over, she probably would not have left it in the car. The Marshall became aware of its importance to her, and thus knew he could lure Kate out with it. He probably did not know why she thought it was important, though, or he would have taken greater measures to secure it. The plane is a DC-3. Even when Tom was a very young child, it is unlikely that a DC-3 would have been in service for a trip from Iowa to Dallas, so it is probably not a fascimile of the actual plane on which he flew. Perhaps it belonged to Tom's father for some time before Tom's solo flight. Perhaps while apologizing to Tom's family, Kate discovered that Tom's father had hidden something important inside the airplane. --Greenvortex 14:14, 8 September 2006 (PDT)

Weak Link[]

This is the detail that most bothers me: Kate stages a dangerous bank robbery, putting innocent lives at risk, just to retrieve a memento from a safe deposit box. I can't imagine any sane person doing this, no matter how much the plane means to her. Unless there's something they're not telling us.... Zicsoft 23:40, 25 April 2007 (PDT)

This assumes she is sane :) I would hope by now TPTB would have revealed if there were anything more to this, given that it hasn't been seen or heard about since it was shown. I think we are to assume that Kate's attachments are made very deeply, and that her grief over "killing a man she loved" caused her to behave irrationally. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 23:15, 9 April 2008 (PDT)
This detail bothers me too. I think it's a hole in the plot. A strong sentimental attachment to an object is plausible, especially if it's linked to a soul-mate you accidentally killed, but she assumed a false identity, had a relationship with a criminal, staged an armed bank robbery, endangering the lives of everyone in the bank and causing a good deal of distress for innocent people, then shot all three of the men she was working with, just to retrieve the object. She's chalking up another major felony here for no good reason. It's just not convincing. Finally, why does she lie to Sawyer and Jack about why she wants the Haliburton? Why can't she just say "there's a little toy plane in there that means a lot to me"? So her grief caused her to behave irrationally. But pulling off a heist this complex requires dedication and logic. I just don't see the payoff. I can imagine darting into a burning house to retrieve a wedding ring or a photo album, but not robbing bank, guns blazing.

Actual scale?[]

So I was looking into the actual scale size of this model airplane, and noticed we state it to be 1/144 scale (albeit with no source). I looked up actual Douglas DC-3 1/144 models and found the reported size of the wingspan is nearly 20cm. This is far too large for the scale model used in the show. It seems more likely to be 1/250 with a wingspan of just under 12cm. I don't own the Kate action figure which has this as a full scale prop, so I was wondering if anyone who does own one could tell me what size it is?--Baker1000 (talk) 14:50, August 22, 2014 (UTC)
