The page states that he was "Euthanised by Jack through asphyxiation." How do we know that it was by asphyxiation? Did they later tell us that he did that or is somebody just assuming that? He could have euthanized him through different methods. -Platypus Man | Talk 10:28, 4 June 2006 (PDT)
- I don't believe that there is any evidence of Jack euthanizing Edward Mars at all. It takes several minutes to asphyxiate someone and Jack came out of the tent about 10 seconds after Mars makes his last noise. When Jack ran in after Sawyer shot him, he immediately began to try to stop the bleeding. Early, he vehemently refused to euthanize him, letting him suffer for hours while admitting that he knew that there was no way he would live long. I don't believe that Jack would have participated in Mars' death. Yes, Jack surmised that it would take "hours" for Mars to "bleed out" but that doesn't mean he couldn't die faster considering how near death he was anyway. His overestimate could be attributed to increasing Sawyer's guilt for failing to kill him instantly. Namastizzay 01:46, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
- Asphyxiation sounds right, even though it's never explicitly mentioned what method he used. I suppose the only other things Jack could have done would be to cut the guy's throat, or break his neck, but somehow I can't see Jack doing that. Those seem a bit "violent" for euthanasia to me. --Shodan1138 12:42, 4 June 2006 (PDT)
- That's true, but I'll add a "most likely" in there until / unless someone can confirm asphyxiation. -Platypus Man | Talk 13:09, 5 June 2006 (PDT)
Makes sense, if you think about it. Jack isnt a man of violence, so I dont see him picking up a weapon. Had he used one, such as a gun, we'd have heard it, and slitting his throat just does not seem like something Jack could/would do (besides the fact of having no knives at this point that they knew of anyway). So yeah, most likely asphyxiation.--Trix

Relationships[]
He and Kate had a romantic relationship or interlude (perhaps she used him sexually to get away from him). He often shows a lot of resentment towards her and says cryptic things implying he might have had feelings for her at one point.
question[]
I'm not an expert on US and Australian law, but would a US Marshal generally have the legal right to pursue a fugitive into another country? Wouldn't the arrest have to be made by Australian officials and then the prisoner be turned over to the US officials? Or has this already been explained and I just forgot about it? --Thenumbersdude 12:26, 22 February 2008 (PST)
- The Marshals routinely work with other countries to pursue international fugitives, so it seems likely that friendly nations like the US and Australia would authorize each other's agents to "assist" in pursuing one of their own. - Tvb 07:02, 15 March 2008 (PDT)
Season 1 DVD[]
Isn't his picture on one of the DVDs, and if so, is that worth mentioning? Gizmomogwai 18:05, 9 May 2008 (PDT)
Edward Mars first article[]
Shouldn't the statment "Mars survived the crash but died soon thereafter, when Jack euthanized him, becuase of Mars's painful injuries." Include Sawyer shooting Mars? Maybe something like: Mars survived three days in excruciating pain, until Sawyer attempted to end his suffering by shooting him in the heart. Sawyer missed the heart and only perforated Mars' lung. Jack then euthanized Mars. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sydtrolls (talk • contribs) 2008-09-25T10:57:01.
