  • I'm going to go ahead and remove information on this page that derives from the Drive Shaft website, as it is not canon. [user:Piscez]
  • Is the Tour information non-canon as well? That should be removed as well, or flagged as non-canon at least. I thought I remembered seeing that only on the unofficial drive shaft website.  Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  01:25, 21 May 2006 (PDT)
  • The tour info there now about opening for MeatCoat and touring Finland is from the show transcript (canon). --PandoraX 05:39, 22 December 2006 (PST)

Driveshaft or Drive Shaft?[]

All the images show the name of the band as two separate words. Is an article rename in order? Robert K S 08:03, 8 January 2007 (PST)

  • Driveshaft: It should be named this as most people know the name of this better than Drive Shaft where this could confuse people where its best for the more popular vote. --Pacific Gilly 1992 14:04, 18 May 2007 (PDT)
    • Comment Confusion is not an issue in the least--Driveshaft can and should redirect to Drive Shaft. Robert K S 16:07, 18 May 2007 (PDT)
  • Driveshaft: I believe the appearance of two words is simply formatting. Their MySpace page shows it as one word. Fat Burger 14:16, 18 May 2007 (PDT)
    • Comment Can we get a better reference than MySpace? Is the MySpace site even run by ABC or the producers of Lost? Or is it run by fans? Robert K S 16:07, 18 May 2007 (PDT)
  • More evidence for Drive Shaft:
  1. The band is named after a person, Dexter Stratton.
  2. The Season 1 Deleted Scenes transcript shows it as two words. Was this taken from a CC transcript?
Robert K S 16:15, 18 May 2007 (PDT)
The Dexter Stratton story is from season 3. The name "Driveshaft" was from season 1 and that's apparently how they've been writing it since then. We shouldn't take upon ourselves to "retcon" the name on the basis of speculation, unless the writers themselves decide to do so. We don't write the show, we write about it. It's not impossible to imagine that they might eventually do it, but for now we should stick to what appears to be the existent name, from the sources other people have cited, i.e. DVDs, captions, title, etc. (I'm taking their word for it, but you haven't contradicted them, so I'm assuming that their information is correct.) -- Cheers (talk) 17:32, 19 May 2007 (PDT)
  • The Backstage with Driveshaft extra on the Season 1 DVD shows it as two words in a montage with a top ten chart. The featurette title uses the one word variation. I'm so confused. Roger Workman 11:30, 19 May 2007 (PDT)
  • Driveshaft - Please see the page history for the reason why it was moved from Drive Shaft to Driveshaft: [1]. The name being Driveshaft, it's better if the title of the article about it matches the actual name than the formatting of a prop. -- Cheers (talk) 15:50, 19 May 2007 (PDT)
    • I checked the link but didn't see any hard evidence to support a one-word band name. All the pictoral evidence I've seen shows two words, but I haven't seen anything concrete to support a one-word band name. The Dexter Stratton bit really drives it home for me. Naming the band Driveshaft, one word, makes zero sense as an homage/reference/in-joke. It would be like the Beatles spelling their band name "Beetles". Robert K S 16:19, 19 May 2007 (PDT)
  • Third option? Driveshaft, Drive Shaft, or DriveShaft (as it is on the myspace page). I have to say that the album cover art and the Dexter Stratton story put me in the Drive Shaft camp.--XR15 09:20, 22 May 2007 (PDT)
  • Keep as is: There's no real reason to change it, IMO. --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  00:51, 1 June 2007 (PDT)
    • How are these for two reasons? All of the canon depictions of the band's name show it as two separate words, while none of them show it as one word. The band is named for Dexter Stratton, not "Dexterstratton". Robert K S 05:51, 9 June 2007 (PDT)
  • Drive Shaft - The only pictorial evidence I can recall is a poster in Charlie and Liam's apartment in "Fire + Water" where it reads as two words. 97198 talkcontribs 20:00, 12 July 2007 (PDT)
  • Drive Shaft: In "Homecoming" it is written as two words. --   Steff    talk    contribs    email   13:17, 13 July 2007 (PDT)
  • Drive Shaft: In the Region 2 DVD sets, the subtitles spell the name in two words. --AlexAx 03:46, 15 July 2007 (PDT)
  • Most of the arguments for changing it seem to be pretty weak. The argument that it's named after Dexter Stratton is ridiculous, as something can be named after a person without having the same number of words as that person's name; this is particularly true if the correct name is DriveShaft. The argument that the subtitles spell it "Drive Shaft" is also weak, because other, potentially more reliable sources spell it "Driveshaft", such as Backstage with Driveshaft. And the weakest argument of all is that pictorial references show it as two words, because it's perfectly possible for a graphic to represent one word in an unusual "broken up" fashion, purely for artistic reasons. My recommendation is that we wait until we find really strong evidence for one name or the other before making a page-move, lest we be forced to move it back and forth every time a source uses a different variant. However, as a compromise, we should note in the lead section of Driveshaft that the band's name is also sometimes referenced as "Drive Shaft". -Silence 06:03, 15 July 2007 (PDT)
At the moment I think the best resolution to this argument is to drop Gregg Nations a message over on the Fuselage and see what he has to say about it. --Nickb123 (Talk) 12:11, 26 August 2007 (PDT)
It is 'Driveshaft' though, only spelt as one single word! -- SilvaStorm
  • Drive Shaft, its not one word. If it is, at least make it DriveShaft. --Avindratalkcontribs email  16:18, 12 September 2007 (PDT)
  • Rename...there is enough evidence to make it two words. [--pom5msu] [--talk] 07:20, 17 September 2007 (PDT)
  • Drive Shaft: I don't see any compelling evidence for a one-word spelling. The spelling of the title on the DVD featurette isn't very convincing, as Buena Vista Home Entertainment, while related to the Walt Disney Company, is not very closely related to ABC or TPTB. Now here is some hard evidence I've found to support a two-word spelling. The episode descriptions on ABC.com spell it as "Drive Shaft". See "Pilot, Part 1" and "The Moth" episode descriptions. Also, in the character bio for Charlie, they spell it "Drive Shaft", see Charlie's bio. And as if to put the nail in the coffin, see the original scrips for "Pilot, Part 1" and "The Moth" here - "Pilot, Part 1" script and "The Moth" script (pdf files). "Drive Shaft" in both scripts. -- Graft   talk   contributions  04:04, 13 January 2008 (PST)

It's time[]

Looking at the dates, it's been over a year since I proposed this rename. The evidence keeps mounting. In the subtitles of last night's "Pop-Up Video" version of Through the Looking Glass, it was written as two words. Who does the renaming of articles, and what else needs to be done to get his or her attention? Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. Robert K S 23:25, 30 January 2008 (PST)

Yeah, I noticed that tonight too; immediately thought of the rename discussion. Seems according to ABC and the original scripts, it's Drive Shaft. -- Graft   talk   contributions  23:45, 30 January 2008 (PST)
