I'm going to go ahead and remove information on this page that derives from the Drive Shaft website, as it is not canon. [user:Piscez]

Driveshaft or Drive Shaft?[]

More evidence for Drive Shaft:

The band is named after a person, Dexter Stratton.
The Season 1 Deleted Scenes transcript shows it as two words. Was this taken from a CC transcript?

The Dexter Stratton story is from season 3. The name "Driveshaft" was from season 1 and that's apparently how they've been writing it since then. We shouldn't take upon ourselves to "retcon" the name on the basis of speculation, unless the writers themselves decide to do so. We don't write the show, we write about it. It's not impossible to imagine that they might eventually do it, but for now we should stick to what appears to be the existent name, from the sources other people have cited, i.e. DVDs, captions, title, etc. (I'm taking their word for it, but you haven't contradicted them, so I'm assuming that their information is correct.) -- Cheers (talk) 17:32, 19 May 2007 (PDT)

- I checked the link but didn't see any hard evidence to support a one-word band name. All the pictoral evidence I've seen shows two words, but I haven't seen anything concrete to support a one-word band name. The Dexter Stratton bit really drives it home for me. Naming the band Driveshaft, one word, makes zero sense as an homage/reference/in-joke. It would be like the Beatles spelling their band name "Beetles". Robert K S 16:19, 19 May 2007 (PDT)

Most of the arguments for changing it seem to be pretty weak. The argument that it's named after Dexter Stratton is ridiculous, as something can be named after a person without having the same number of words as that person's name; this is particularly true if the correct name is DriveShaft. The argument that the subtitles spell it "Drive Shaft" is also weak, because other, potentially more reliable sources spell it "Driveshaft", such as Backstage with Driveshaft. And the weakest argument of all is that pictorial references show it as two words, because it's perfectly possible for a graphic to represent one word in an unusual "broken up" fashion, purely for artistic reasons. My recommendation is that we wait until we find really strong evidence for one name or the other before making a page-move, lest we be forced to move it back and forth every time a source uses a different variant. However, as a compromise, we should note in the lead section of Driveshaft that the band's name is also sometimes referenced as "Drive Shaft". -Silence 06:03, 15 July 2007 (PDT)

Drive Shaft: I don't see any compelling evidence for a one-word spelling. The spelling of the title on the DVD featurette isn't very convincing, as Buena Vista Home Entertainment, while related to the Walt Disney Company, is not very closely related to ABC or TPTB. Now here is some hard evidence I've found to support a two-word spelling. The episode descriptions on ABC.com spell it as "Drive Shaft". See "Pilot, Part 1" and "The Moth" episode descriptions. Also, in the character bio for Charlie, they spell it "Drive Shaft", see Charlie's bio. And as if to put the nail in the coffin, see the original scrips for "Pilot, Part 1" and "The Moth" here - "Pilot, Part 1" script and "The Moth" script (pdf files). Looking at the dates, it's been over a year since I proposed this rename. The evidence keeps mounting. In the subtitles of last night's "Pop-Up Video" version of Through the Looking Glass, it was written as two words.
