The Other Pages[]

I'm interested in what the other pages in the journal were. Yeah i know that most of us don't have any kind of education in theoretical physics, but it would be interesting nonetheless. there was one with darkened circles and lines drawn between, like a map, that interests me the most. and since i tend to watch on abc.com i can grab screens myself. --Monsto 05:31, 1 March 2008 (PST)

  • I noticed that in Daniel's blackboard and notebook there were several references to special relativity, general relativity, quantum mechanics, etc. But I think the most important concept that appear several times is that of a "Kerr metric". It's mentioned in the blackboard and it also appears in Daniel's notebook:
    4x05 Journal end

Kerr metric in Daniel's notebook (top right)

it's the equation above the diagram, in the page next to the red comment about Desmond. Kerr metric is the exact solution to Einstein's equations of General Relativity, that describes a spinning black hole! There's a lot to say about it, and I wrote a quite lengthy post in Lostpedia Forums --Helvio 05:58, 2 March 2008 (PST)
Another interesting piece of infomation that relates to that is the reference of "The Lorentz Invariance" in the notebook. It is an actual property within physics that's a key property of spacetime It was created by Nobel Prize winning Dutch physcist Hendrik Antoon Lorentz. Hendrik Antoon Lorentz's data in various fields was later interpreted by Albert Einstein. I added that infomation into this article. Perhaps the infomation about the Kerr Metric should be too? dposse 14:38, 3 March 2008 (PST)
  • Does Daniel keep looking in the journal waiting for the altered reality to (have) fill(ed) out the pages with information? He seems to look at it right during events and then there just happens to be a section(s) we haven't seen before. Like until something happens, he doesn't know to look for it in there, since it had not been written until the event (starts to)happensForcedaccount 14:50, 5 June 2008 (PDT)
  • I posted some new screen caps and noticed that the "Desmond Hume will be my constant" inscription changed pages from one episode to another! Check it out: [1] cashiers 14:50, 22 Jan 2009 (EST)

Page Order[]

I'm not so great with editing pics and tables, but you can see the back of Page E on the page in front of Page B in the gallery, can someone fix the order? --Gluphokquen Gunih 08:11, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

Journal Page G.1[]

The correct notes on this page should be noted as.. Using Eddington Finkelstein Coordinates (V,R) Remove the Singularity r=2m As r gets smaller, the light cone tips over.[2]--Kansasgal71 11:57, 7 August 2008 (PDT)

State of journal when given to him by Eloise[]

I was under the impression that the journal was empty (apart from the note from his mother) when Daniel first received it after his graduation. It looks new and there is no obvious sign that the journal is used. Other people have been suggesting that Eloise filled it with the equations etc. that Daniel needed to do his work. Neither the article, discussion or theory pages expand on this. Does anyone know? -- Chuq 05:38, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Nothing of that sort was shown in "The Variable". We only saw the inscription.  Robert K S   tell me  10:10, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Discussion: Infobox update?[]

After Eloise shoots Daniel at the end of "The Variable", we now see that currently Eloise has the journal. Yes, the article should still be titled Daniel's journal, but shouldn't the infobox be updated in one or all of the following categories: "owned by" / "found by" / "used by"?? A discussion can help decide how these should now be labeled. - NEVERGIVEUP  Contribs  Talk  20:16, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

  • I vote: Owned by- Daniel and Eloise / Found by- ??? / Used by- Daniel and Eloise. I'm not sure what "found by" means as it wasn't even found by Daniel. It was given to him as a gift. - NEVERGIVEUP  Contribs  Talk  20:16, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

I´m not sure if this has been mentioned before, within Lostpedia or anywhere else, but Daniel´s journal seems like a symbol of the Book of Daniel, from the Bible. The Book of Daniel includes prophetical segments, which are represented in Daniel´s journal by the fact that they contain information from future events.

Missing Page(s)?[]

In the Episode The Variable when Daniel is at The Orchid, the journal shows visible evidence that a page has been torn out. I would be interested to know what was on the page and why it was removed? Assuming, as always, that this was not just a prop error. WCFrancis 22:23, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

Mathematics explaining the balance of black and white in the time space equation.[]

In Daniel's journal Page G, the "orchid" ,(see links), the equation explains the MIB existence process. summ = 1 (black insect drawing) It is the time anomaly equation that has created the time emprisonement factor keeping MIB enable to exist out of the island, and gave it it's mystical form.

In Daniel's journal Page B, the equation summ = 0, and might refer to the needed counter-balancing equation. This could be the white part and Jacob's purpose in the Binary system.--Kaiko34 01:21, April 8, 2010 (UTC)

Alternate Timeline Notebook(?)[]

The contents of the notebook shown in "Happily Ever After" are probably quite different from the OT notebook. Note that the page Daniel Widdmore showed to Alt.Desmond referred to quantum mechanics and not space-time/relativity equations. The two are obviously connected, but this season seems to be about resolving a quantum rift that detonating Jughead opened. Not sure if a separate article is needed but maybe a subsection? Tpir 12:57, April 8, 2010 (UTC)

  • I'd go with seperate article, I don't see a connection between the two other than they are both Daniel's. Unless, it was the same type of book? Hawkdeath 12:59, April 8, 2010 (UTC)
  • Actually, the page shown in "Happily Ever After" appears to be the exact same as the page labelled 'Page F' in the gallery at the bottom of the main Article page; the same diagram he used/showed Desmond when in Oxford doing the experiments with the rats in the maze.
