New Article[]

  • Started new article. Needs help with formatting (image thumbs slide past entries), and some unidentified vehicles are probably easily identifiable (or existing IDs made more specific) by other users. For now, I have it listed with a stub template.
  • Interesting things to note: Doctors have BMWs and Benzs.
  • Wanted for article:
  1. nothing at the moment.

nice article --kaini. 21:38, 23 August 2006 (PDT)

Yes it is. I'm following its progression with interest even if I can't think of much to contribute, LOL. A few things we might try to find: Ray Mullen's truck and the marshal's car from Tabula Rasa. Jin's car in ...In Translation. Kate's motorcycle in WKD (not a car, but still would fit well in the list), Rose's and Bernard's cars from S.O.S. I'll add more if I think of something. Cheers 21:41, 23 August 2006 (PDT)
Thanks Cheers, those are good suggstions! I'll try to get those in. Thanks Kaini for the kind words. Some more should be coming in soon for S3, so that's more work to come in October as well. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 01:21, 24 August 2006 (PDT)
If anyone one needs doesn't know a vehicles make and/or model leave a comment on my talkpage a I will find out as soon as possible.--CaptainInsano 11:47, 24 August 2006 (PDT)

Help wanted[]

  • Many of the screencaps have now been placed, but the vehicle IDs are still lacking. If you have any knowledge, go ahead and fill in automobile models. If you can research specific model year ranges, that is even better (for example, a 1988-1992 Ford Taurus). If you have speculation, you may add it to the "Background" tab of each vehicle, or to the article talk.
  • The article is now long enough that we might consider alphabetizing by either last name or first name.
  • PS if you like this sort of thing, check out (and help out) with the article Logos.

golden pontiac[]

  • I think I'll add a section for the Golden Pontiac with an outline of details, but linking to the main article. I think it's worth more than a passing citation in the 'see also' section. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 04:33, 31 August 2006 (PDT)

License plate request[]

  • Could anyone with the S1 DVD (or HD dvr recording) check to see if the license plate is discernable for the following vehicles:
  1. Sawyer's Ford Taurus rental by the shrimp truck scene in Outlaws. (Aus plate)
  2. Golden Pontiac that hits Tom & Kate's BMW in Born to Run (Iowa plate)
TY! -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 00:46, 1 September 2006 (PDT)
I couldn't see any of those, but I did get Tom's BMW plate.--CaptainInsano 12:00, 1 September 2006 (PDT)
Excellent work! Thanks for the improved TOC, that was a great idea btw. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 19:49, 2 September 2006 (PDT)

Kate's bike[]

  • Re: Kate's motorcycle from What Kate Did. I've already been talking to CI about this, but I figured to put the discussion here in the article talk as well. We originally thought it to be some sort of a Harley, but I posted a query over at a big Harley Davidson forums, and they all think it's a mid 80's Japanese bike, either Suzuki or Honda possibly. We might be able to identify it by some resources they mentioned (by looking at the light cluster). Here's the thread link at the Harley forums. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 23:26, 2 September 2006 (PDT)
    • Here are some clue-quotes from the Harley forum replies:
"In the early to mid eighties the japs started to come out with the square indicators and in the same period the cast wheels started to be more popular. This is still a laced wheel so if you google jappers in that period it shouldn't be too hard to find. The clear pic of the instrument cluster shape is a good starting point as well."
"definitely japanese. judging by the gauges (like the others said) 80's suzuki is the best bet"
"(Not a Harley:) Yeah the first indication to me was the signals and the horn under the triple trees."
"Looks about like a 85 suzuki gs 1150"
"Tough call, but I would suggest that it a Jap bike ,look at those indicators and clocks. Is that a horn under the bottom fork yolk ? "
"yeah, i think that is a horn. and you can tell from the pipes in the one pic (there is one on the left) that it isn't a harley. i might suggest an old triumph but i think you would see the pipes curving down at the front left, so probably no. it is probably a semi-chopped up jap bike but the square blinkers can't be too old. and i can't tell if the front brake is a drum or disc."
-- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 13:55, 11 September 2006 (PDT)
"The bike is a 1979 Honda CB650.. The horn placement, separated gauges with chrome buckets and square turn signals are the big clues." {User:Sschering 3 March 2010

Model requests[]

Some of the vehicles listed here have specific vintages listed, and others do not. Here are vehicle that we need model year ranges and body types:

  • Most of the Mercedes Benzs
    • Anthony Cooper's
    • Bernard's
  • The Mistsubishi
  • Bernard's Jeep
  • Marshal (Edward Mars)'s Chevy Tahoe & Crown Victoria
  • The vans (Essam Tasir's E150, and Johnny's clunker)
etc. (I'll update the list later)

Bernard[]

  • Bernard's SOS snowbound vehicle may be a BMW and not a Mercedes-Benz.
-- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 21:23, 4 September 2006 (PDT)
  • OK I changed it to unidentified BMW. Looks like a 5-series to me, but I didn't investigate it for sure. There's a slightly better view in the O'Toole's photo gallery. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 21:36, 4 September 2006 (PDT)
  • UPDATE: I've called it a 7-series E32, having ruled out the 7-series E23 and the 5-series E34, based on the shape of the front turn signal lights in the O'Toole's Irish pub photo gallery. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 23:53, 4 September 2006 (PDT)
  • Bernard's Jeep: There are two Jeeps. The one in the ABC promo shot is different from the window shot. We should go back and compare with the interior Jeep scenes, but I seem to remember closed doors and an enclosed cabin. I'm unfamiliar with models, but this might make us change our vehicle ID. UPDATE: this link has an interior screenshot & a rear view exterior screenshot. Definitely not the open long-bed jeep visible in the window. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 21:52, 4 September 2006 (PDT)
The one in the promo shot is an old Mercedes-Benz G-Class I am pretty sure.--CaptainInsano 15:37, 8 September 2006 (PDT)

Hurley's Land Rover or whatever it was...[]

  • The licence plate doesn't seem to be Australian - we're missing a letter. Aus number paltes have 3 letters and 3 numbers, eg. VVX 635. If there's a letter missing, shouldn't we put in a '?' ?--Zoe 05:12, 5 September 2006 (PDT)
    • Remember that these are not real license plates, but props created by the production crew, especially the mirror-image props used in horizontally-reversed Australian scenes. I believe the Iowa plates are also not formatted correctly regarding numbers and letters, so an error in Australian formatting is easily possible. The license plate is correctly transcribed, see Lost-media here. However, if you want to add a note in the background section you can. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 11:33, 5 September 2006 (PDT)
    • Actually, don't add the text noting an error. See Wikipedia, which notes that license plates from Tasmania have that format. We might add the note about Tasmania, however. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 11:40, 5 September 2006 (PDT)

Sawyer[]

Yeah totally checks out.--CaptainInsano 15:17, 8 September 2006 (PDT)

Gabriela[]

  • Scocub suggested a Lexus SUV with a very similar antenna. However even with a curb or set risers, Gabriela & Jack tower above the roofline of the vehicle; it's not a SUV.
  • The Lexus IS has an antenna there, but the photos I've seen are too long, and it does not seem to retract further when parked. Image: 1
    • A boy racer doesn't seem right for Gabriela's character.
  • Cadillac CTS have an antenna there, but are too short.
  • Toyota Corollas may have an antenna there, I have not examined photos yet, but it seems like the wrong car for Gabriela's character.
  • Some Maserati Quattroporte have an antenna there. It seems to be the right size, although the angle may be too upright. It's hard to tell, and it's an option so it's not seen on all Quattroportes. Images: 1, 2, 3
-- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 11:36, 6 September 2006 (PDT)
Lexus IS (1998-2005) is the top candiate. My only the problem with it is that it is a tuner. I would thought it would be more luxurious. I don't tell me what you think?--CaptainInsano 12:10, 7 September 2006 (PDT)
The Lexus IS's antenna is too long and does not retract when turned off. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 19:46, 7 September 2006 (PDT)
  • Sedans with (long) center-rear angle mounted antennae: Toyota Corolla, Toyota Prius (do these come with sunroofs?), VW Passat, VW Jetta, Mazda 3, Lexus IS, Maserati Quattroporte. All but the Maserati (I think) are too long, and they don't retract when the car is turned off. The Maserati is also unlikely as it is an option, and you would think they would show more of such a rare vehicle.I don't want to call anything yet. If we want to list possibilities in the article, that would be fine I think. Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 19:46, 7 September 2006 (PDT)
I have one question: Who is the man? It is a Toyota Corolla 100% sure. The side-mirrors match. I went to a dealership.--CaptainInsano 15:11, 8 September 2006 (PDT)

Jimmy Bane[]

  • Are we sure that is his car. I always thought it was Cooper's?--CaptainInsano 15:18, 8 September 2006 (PDT)
    • I am not sure either. However that vehicle is not Cooper's S-Class that we see later. Maybe the dark one is Jimmy Bane's, what do you think? We could list both vehicles as "possibly" Bane's. I'll leave it up to you. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 21:58, 8 September 2006 (PDT)
The silver car is Cooper's and the black or dark blue one is Jimmy's. It is a BMW E34. I am making an article for it.--CaptainInsano 14:26, 10 September 2006 (PDT)
OK great. Then the silver car should be added to Cooper as well. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 15:09, 10 September 2006 (PDT)
No it is the one already listed.--CaptainInsano 15:14, 10 September 2006 (PDT)
You're right I don't know what I was thinking. The angle and blur on the rims fooled me I think. I added a link to an updated funeral scene image that does not have Jimmy Bane on it. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 14:13, 11 September 2006 (PDT)

see also[]

  • do we need a link to Car_accidents in the main article? -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 17:40, 9 September 2006 (PDT)
    • Sure, why not. It would seem perfectly appropriate in a "see also" section at the bottom of this article. (Alternatively, the link could be placed on the word "accidents" in the golden Pontiac section, but the "see also" solution seems a better choice in the present case.) -- Cheers 18:33, 9 September 2006 (PDT)
Might as well we want this to site to be easily navigable.--CaptainInsano

Season 3 pictures[]

  • Found one of locke with a Dodge Ram (below). Lets wait till the episodes air before we put them into the article. If you have a vehicle image place it in the gallery below then we will convert it over when the episode airs. Please have a caption that at least states the character that drives the vehicle and episode name.--CaptainInsano 16:13, 22 September 2006 (PDT)

Gabriela again[]

  • I know you've said you're sure, but the antenna length is still bothering me. Recently I saw three small cars with the correct antenna, although I haven't really compared the side mirrors, the year models (e.g. 2004 or before), etc.:
  1. Honda Fit
  2. Suzuki Aerio
  3. Nissan Versa
-- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 12:03, 6 October 2006 (PDT)
I check out the Nissan Versa and Suzuki Aerio. I will check out the Honda Fit.--CaptainInsano
My conclusion, side mirrors are too round and the intenna seems to be at the wrong angle (it might just be the picture though).--CaptainInsano 08:03, 7 October 2006 (PDT)
  • OK, I trust your judgement. II saw a Toyota hatchback (either Matrix or Yaris Liftback) with a similar stubby (i.e. no extension) antenna today, but I'm just beating a dead horse here. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 02:35, 8 October 2006 (PDT)
    • Beating a dead horse: Mitsubishi Lancer, and some of the new (probably post 2004) Honda Civics. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 18:55, 12 October 2006 (PDT)
    • One more car with the same antenna: Hyundai Accent, e.g.: 1, 2, 3.

A Tale of Two Cities[]

  • In my opinion, the Lexus at the end of Jack's flashback was not Sarah's. Although her companion seems to be leaning on it (as if it it his his, or hers) at the opening of the scene, they are seen departing together down the street, and do not appear to be entering the car-- they seem to be walking past it. Hard to tell though. However: They definitely placed a Lexus there on purpose, especially since it seems an oddly luxurious choice for the creating the setting outside the LAPD police station, but I don't know what to make of it. I briefly added it to the article, then removed it. Agree? Disagree? -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 02:35, 8 October 2006 (PDT)
Agree.--CaptainInsano 16:34, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

The Glass Ballerina[]

  • Anyone get Jin's automobile that Jae landed on? There were also some taxis in the background, but those are not "featured". There's a chance that the pre-Jae and post-Jae vehicles are different ones. Also there was a black limo that Mr. Paik walked off towards at the funeral. BTW THANKS CAP for the TOC cleanup! -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 18:55, 12 October 2006 (PDT)
Black Limo is a hard one my best guess is a Lexus LS 430 (UF30). Then Jin cars is a BMW E38. I am guessing he didn't want to draw attention to himself.--CaptainInsano 19:33, 12 October 2006 (PDT)

BMW question[]

  • Is there any chance Kate's 5-series gray BMW and Jin's 7-series gray BMW are actually the same, and that one of them is misidentified? Someone with the DVDs can check out the windshield damage. Also see the external link on Jin's auto in this article for a detail. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 21:44, 8 December 2006 (PST)

Kate's Motorcycle[]

Can someone take a closer look and see if Kate's motorcyle is in fact identical to the bike used to film David Reyes' Yamaha? Since they tend to reuse vehicle, it may be the same bike, for practical (rather than Storyline) reasons. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  23:52, 8 March 2007 (PST)

I can tell you that it's absolutely not the same bike, on first view I see that the indicators are square on her bike, the whole configuration of the instruments and handlebar is different, you can see that on the photos + the sound is not of a Virago. But I can't tell you what model her bike is. What I can tell from the design of it though and that's on par with the article, that her bike is some asian sport bike from the late 80's early 90's. Roger 04:47, 5 April 2007 (PDT)

David Reyes Motorcycle[]

The model is a Yamaha "Virago 535", build '88-'01 pictures and Wikipedia. I drove one myself a few years ago. Roger 15:09, 3 April 2007 (PDT)

Dodge Sprinter[]

The Dodge Sprinter is not the same thing as a Ford Transit. For one thing, the Sprinter is made by Dodge and the Transit is made by Ford! The page shouldn't say 'this model is known as'. I think what is meant is that the common cargo van in the UK is the Ford Transit. --Thenumbersdude 10:44, 22 December 2007 (PST)
