Starla was an assistant at a music store Hurley frequently visited. Hurley was attracted to her for a long time but did not act on his feelings until the day after he won the lottery. That day, while in the store with his friend Johnny after they'd quit their jobs, Hurley greeted her and asked her to a concert. She accepted, and Hurley's sudden, unexplained confidence impressed Johnny. ("Everybody Hates Hugo")

According to Hurley, Johnny and Starla later "ran off" together, helping convince him that that he suffered from bad luck. ("Tricia Tanaka Is Dead")

Trivia

  • The name Starla comes from the English word "star", though it is said to be related to the Persian name Esther, which means "myrtle leaf".
