SPOILCON refers to a mode of operation on the Lostpedia IRC channel where all unregistered users are muted as a measure to prevent spoiler related discussions, as per Lostpedias spoiler policy.

The name is in reference to the US Military term 'DEFCON' or defense readiness condition states.

The higher the number, the more secure the channel is.

SPOILCON 1Edit

During SPOILCON 1 the channel is moderated (+m). You cannot talk unless you have voice (makes sense, huh), that is if you don't have the +v user mode. If you're a well-known user and registered with GameSurge, you probably get auto-voiced by ChanServ. Another effect of SPOILCON 1 is the +D channel mode which basically hides unregistered users.

Otherwise you can contact one of the operators using the wiki or forums (do not PM ops unless stated otherwise). In order to be unmuted, a user has to state to a channel operator that he/she understands spoiler related discussions are prohibited. You may be unmuted in an automatic way, or by contacting a live channel operator to do it manually.

1. You will be automatically private-messaged by the either polarbear_ or ThePearl or TheIsland bot. Click on the new private-message tab received (either one) at the top of your screen to read instructions: You will need to type "promos are spoilers" and you will be unmuted automatically.

2. If the polarbear_ or ThePearl or TheIsland bots are not present, channel operators can be contacted via private messages on IRC (only if noted in the list below), wiki user talk pages, or the forums. The following is a list of channel operators.

You as an operator have the power to voice users. Make sure you carefully check whether or not you can trust a user, especially unregistered users who may impersonate another well-known user. We agreed on the following voicing policy:

• If you voice a user, you vouch for them. You take responsibility.
• If a user you voiced violates the spoiler policy, you bear the blame. That implies that you may lose your operator status not only temporarily. In any case both of you get banned until the finale is over.
