Skate

Skate is the fan-given name to the romantic relationship between Sawyer and Kate. It is part of the love quadrangle featuring Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Juliet. The other parts are known as Jate, Jacket and Suliet. Such nicknames for pairings are also more generally known as 'ships (short for "relationships").

Season 1

  • 1x02 "Pilot, Part 2" - Day 2: First time Sawyer flirts with Kate
  • 1x03 "Tabula Rasa" - Day 2: First time Sawyer calls Kate Freckles
  • 1x04 "Walkabout" - Day 4: Sawyer protects Kate from the wild boar attack
  • 1x08 "Confidence Man" - Day 9: Kate sees Sawyer naked; Sawyer extorts a kiss from Kate in exchange for information about the whereabouts of Shannon's inhalers. The kiss affects them both in a way neither expected.
  • 1x12 "Whatever the Case May Be" - Day 21-22: Sawyer follows Kate into the jungle to protect her from the Others, they swim together at the waterfall, and later fight over the Marshal's briefcase
  • 1x16 "Outlaws" - Day 29-31: Kate helps Sawyer track his boar; they play "I never" by the campfire and share secrets
  • 1x22 "Born to Run" - Day 43: Sawyer reveals Kate's fugitive status to the group in revenge for her trying to take his spot on the raft, they part on bad terms

  • 3x09 "Stranger in a Strange Land" - Day 74: Sawyer accuses Kate of sleeping with him only because she thought he was a "dead man"
  • 3x10 "Tricia Tanaka Is Dead" - Day 75: Kate goes to rescue Jack without telling Sawyer she's leaving
  • 3x16 "One of Us" - Day 85: Kate returns to the beach, she and Sawyer have an emotional reunion
  • 3x17 "Catch-22" - Day 86-87: Kate tells Sawyer Jack already knows they have a thing; Kate comes to Sawyer in tears and seduces him after she sees Jack and Juliet flirting; the next day Sawyer makes Kate a mix tape and tells her not to use him
  • 3x19 "The Brig" - Day 91: Sawyer and Kate have spent the night together; Kate leaves to sleep in her own tent
  • 3x22 "Through the Looking Glass" - Day 92: Kate points out to Sawyer that the Others were coming for the pregnant women, including possibly her

Season 4

Kate wakes up Sawyer the morning after he unbanishes her
  • 4x03 "The Economist" - Day 94: Sawyer asks Kate to live with him on the Island
  • 4x04 "Eggtown" - Day 95-96: Sawyer invites Kate to move in with him and after Locke banishes her, he "unbanishes" her and they sleep together but don't go all the way; the next day, she tells him she's not pregnant, they fight over his relief, she leaves to return to the beach.
  • 4x13 "There's No Place Like Home, Parts 2 & 3", - Day 100: After Sawyer makes Kate promise him something, he kisses her passionately and jumps from the helicopter.
  • 4x13 "There's No Place Like Home, Parts 2 & 3", - Day 100: After Sawyer swims back ashore the island, he worriedly turns back to the ocean, and is frightened for Kate's life as he sees the smoke from the freighter explosion

Season 5

  • 5x04 "The Little Prince" - Sawyer sees Kate in the jungle during a flash. He is obviously upset when the Island flashes again and she disappears. He then pretends to Locke that it didn't matter to him, but later confesses to Juliet that he wanted to touch Kate and talk to her and that he truly misses her.
  • 5x08 "LaFleur" - Sawyer tells Horace Goodspeed that he "used to have a thing for" Kate, but now he can hardly remember her face. Sawyer and Kate are reunited the following day, Sawyer's expression indicating what he told Horace was a lie.
  • 5x11 "Whatever Happened, Happened" Sawyer and Kate discuss their relationship while tending little Ben in the jungle, with Sawyer commenting that they never would have worked out, as he was too immature for her.
  • 5x14 "The Variable" - Sawyer casually refers to Kate as "Freckles" in front of Juliet, much to her annoyance.
  • 5x15 "Follow the Leader" - When Radzinsky beats Sawyer up to find out where Kate is, he refuses to tell them. When the tape pauses on Kate, Sawyer looks at her longingly. Later, on the submarine, Kate has been caught by DHARMA and joins Sawyer on the sub.
  • 5x16 "The Incident, Parts 1 & 2" - Kate, Sawyer and Juliet escape the submarine, and while they are rowing in the inflatable raft, Kate and Sawyer flirt, much to Juliet's annoyance. When Rose and Bernard say all they care about is being together, Sawyer looks at Kate. Juliet breaks up with Sawyer because she saw him looking at Kate. During The Incident, Kate and Sawyer try to help Juliet. After the bomb detonates, their fate is unknown.
