• Paul was formerly an Other who joined the DHARMA Initiative. This explains why he wore an ankh (the Others are indigenous to the Island and related to the builders of the four-toed statue) and also why the Others demanded his body back. If Paul had betrayed the Others to marry Amy, it may also explain their motivation for killing him.
  • The above may be true, but in reverse. The necklace may have originally been Amy's and a gift to her husband. Amy may have been the Other originally. Her successful pregnancy may be some sort of "corrupting" of the bloodlines, causing the pregnancy problems on the island.
• I know this is out there, but I wonder if he was joking reference to Paul Anka. It's probably way off, but if they really named two of the hippies after Jerry and Phil from the Grateful Dead, anything's possible.
