The Mortar attack was an attack that Widmore's team launched against the remaining Others under The Man in Black. It was part of Widmore's attempt to regain control of the island during his 2007 visit. The result was a victory for Widmore's team, although many of the Others escaped, including the Man in Black. It was part of the larger war fought between Widmore's team, Jacob's team, and the Others, led by the Man in Black.
