The Golden State Natural History Museum bestowed upon Hugo Reyes their Man of the Year award in 2004 for his philanthropic activities and in particular for his funding of the new Hugo Reyes Paleontology Wing of the museum. The award was presented by Dr. Pierre Chang in a banquet given in Hugo's honor at the museum.
The award itself consisted of a frosted glass T. rex silhouette mounted to a wooden base that read "HUGO REYES - MAN OF THE YEAR". Hugo was impressed with the award he received, remarking to his mother that it was a "pretty cool trophy".
