Categorising Images by Episode

  • Nominated by:   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  02:12, 28 July 2007 (PDT)
  • I thought it might be a good idea perhaps to label images by episode rather than season, so, for example, [[Category:Images from Pilot]]. Therefore, if you're specifically searching for an image from Pilot, you don't have to trawl through some of the absurdly named images in Category:Images from Season 1. Just a thought - I'm not sure of this idea myself, but just thought I'd throw it out there.
  • Yes Sign you name here.
    • Yeah, make finding specific images much easier. But, still keep the Season cats. --Blueeagleislander 03:10, 28 July 2007 (PDT)
    • Yes, it'll be lot easier to find a screencap from an episode, especially during this rewatch phase when we edit episode articles, --EXCALIBUR
    • Yes, this seems useful. We should remove the "season" categories from episodes as we implement this, though, and just put the episode categories themselves inside each season category, since obviously anything from a season-1 episode will also belong in the season 1 category. We should almost never include an image in both a category and a parent category for that same category, as it creates redundancy and extra work for both editors and readers. Also, I think we should discuss how to format the names for these categories. It seems to me that the simplest acceptable format would be something like Category:Images from episode 1x01, as that'd make typing in each category's name a lot easier than if we use episode titles. However, longer names should be acceptable as long as we take the time to set up category redirects from shorter names. The only images we need to keep in the "Season" categories directly are ones whose episode is uncertain, or promotional images for the season as a whole. -Silence 07:39, 28 July 2007 (PDT)
  • I would go with Silence's idea, only because 99% of the images we have the episode and season in the title using SxEP, so it would be easy to add instead of trying to match episode number with title. And it would make it incredibly easier to add the image template and not take as much space up. -Mr.Leaf 10:38, 29 July 2007 (PDT)
  • And in any case, if we do go with the longer titles for these categories, my main point was that we should then have shorter "redirect category" titles so they're easy to hop to with urls and links. Either way, though, thanks to Mr. Leaf's Image template, it shouldn't be very difficult to mass-add these categories to images; I'll be glad to help, once we've decided on this issue and the Image template's all ready for business. -Silence 18:58, 29 July 2007 (PDT)
  • Good points. I agree now. You changed my mind :P. Yeah.. --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  01:56, 30 July 2007 (PDT)

    • I'm completely neutral on this, but if its decided that we are going to categorize images by episode, I'll help. --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 05:16, 28 July 2007 (PDT)
    • If you guys want to try, go for it. Its going to be a lot of work and we still have a huge amount of images that aren't even categorized by Season. If there is enough support for this I'll set it up using Template:Image so people can use the other categories as well. -Mr.Leaf

  • Conclusion: Fufilled. I've changed the image template so now the images will be appropriately categorized according to episode as long as the keyword for episode is SxEp as in {{img|3x12}} I have created some categories however any who wishes to help may. Please use the same format as Category:Images from 3x14 as an example. Thanks and let me know if you have any problems. -Mr.Leaf 12:16, 30 July 2007 (PDT)

Policy to name character's article pages

  • Nominated by: -- Dagg talk contribs4 8 20:37, 22 July 2007 (PDT)
  • Per the lengthy discussion in the Lostpedia talk:Ideas page (example: [1]), it sounds like it would be a good idea to create a new policy page (or a new section of an existing policy page) to either outline the existing article-naming conventions (for characters), or create a new policy via consensus. The benefit of this new proposed policy is that it would make renames more straight-forward and less controversial. I think a good first step is for someone to outline the existing conventions somewhere. This is obviously not a high-priority, just an idea.

      • A policy needs to be decided on immediately. --Blueeagleislander 01:26, 23 July 2007 (PDT)
      • Whilst I think its no big deal as only SysOps can move pages (so no move wars), I agree its nice to have things set in stone. I would rather though have this clause merged into an existing policy like General Usage Guide, as opposed to a whole page dedicated to naming articles adequately. --Nickb123 (Talk) 05:38, 23 July 2007 (PDT)
      • I think we definitely need a concrete policy saying what is and isn't done, for consistency. --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  07:09, 23 July 2007 (PDT)
      • A policy would be good. --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 08:21, 23 July 2007 (PDT)
    • No: Sign your name here
      • Conclusion: The sysops have discussed and according to the ideas discussion on the talk page, as well as the current naming systems, i will create a policy that follows what we do now. From then on in, any changes to it can be made on it's talk page. -Mr.Leaf 11:06, 30 November 2007 (PST)

Unseen character appearances: mentioned in...

  • Nominated by: Phil (talk) 01:38, 18 July 2007 (PDT)
  • Just a small idea, requiring views from users. Some of the unseen characters [e.g. Robert and Danny (Ana-Lucia's ex)] have the "appearances" part of the infobox containing "none". All of these should be changed to "mentioned in..." [e.g. Andy] --Phil (talk) 01:38, 18 July 2007 (PDT)
    • Yes Sign your name here.
    • Yes As mentioned-only characters they haven't appeared anywhere, so we don't want to modify that. You could however add an optional value for the new field into the infobox template for those pages.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 15:16, 17 August 2007 (PDT)
    • Yes If anyone notices any I don't see any problem with it, it is good to know where they are originally mentioned for reference purposes. Seems no real issue here. -Mr.Leaf 11:06, 30 November 2007 (PST)

UPDATED: Removal of Headings on Spoiler Pages

  • Nominated by:    Dee4leeds  talk  contribs  all  03:32, 7 August 2007 (PDT)
  • Basically on the Spoiler pages removing the H1, H2 and H3 headings. This is because when people are editing the the spoiler pages the Headlines appear on the Recent changes, leaving something like this showing to all users:

"The Man Behind the Curtain: Ben Flashback: Adding source about Roger Workman."

Which is unfair to users who dont want to get spoiled. It should be Replaced by Manual Heading making user have to use the Full Edit Button.

UPDATE: Instead use the __NOEDITSECTION__ magic word.

Disagree: Using the full edit button can get annoying. I think it would be easier to simply make sure all H1, H2 and H3 headings are ambiguous (i.e. 4x06, and then possible episode title spoilers are incorporated into the table system; similarly "Locke", with Locke spoilers under this heading). Therefore, anyone on Recent Changes won't get spoiled by these headings, unless the edit summary is added to by individuals. --Nickb123 (Talk) 05:12, 20 August 2007 (PDT)
Agree with Nick for ease of the users who edit the page and for those of us who don't like to read the spoilers. -Mr.Leaf 11:41, 26 August 2007 (PDT)
