The overhead view of the schematic shows a large round tube around a rectangular shaped building, if this tube was removed or had been destroyed, it would look very similar to the stations current exterior.

Production Error

Now that our Losties are living in DHARMA we will see one of them mess with the schematics. I imagine Hurley seeing the schematics on a computer then deleting the word "station" and changing it to "hatch" just for fun.
