Julian Carlson is the miracle nephew of Dr. Juliet Burke. His seemingly infertile, cancer-stricken mother Rachel was able to conceive as a result of Juliet's medical treatment.

His life may have been saved in utero by Jacob curing his mother's returned cancer (similar to Dōgen's son being saved) or Ben lied that his mother's cancer returned to convince Juliet to remain on The Island.

Conception[]

2001[]

In September 2001, Juliet was amazed and became emotional when she discovered she would become an aunt.

2002[]

In March 2002, Benjamin Linus alleged that his mother's cancer returned (while he would be around six months in utero). He promised that Jacob would cure Rachel's cancer if his aunt Juliet stayed on the Island.

After the crash[]

2004[]

Over 2 years later, Ben led Juliet to The Flame where he and Mikhail showed what was apparently proof of his mother's survival and his very own existence: a video, apparently live, filmed by Richard Alpert apparently (with camera footage showing a September 22, 2004 newspaper).

In this video, the camera zooms out to a park showing Rachel with her hair fully regrown, holding up a young boy in the park, that Ben identifies as Julian, an obvious name tribute to his aunt. He states Rachel's cancer went into complete remission.

2007[]

Ben's communications with Jacob from the cabin are revealed to be fraudulent, putting into question his claim that Julian's life was prenatally endangered. ("The Incident, Part 1") Around time he would be five, his aunt succumbed to injuries sustained from falling down The Swan shaft, preventing him from ever meeting her. ("LA X, Part 1")

However, Jacob's willingness to heal family members of the Others under the condition they go to the Island is proven through Dōgen's son. ("Sundown") Additionally, Richard's communications with Jacob as an intermediary may lend credence to the idea that Ben was actually telling the truth, but merely relaying information he got from Richard, not directly from Jacob. ("Ab Aeterno")
