Prior to the start of a season, character promotional photos are released by ABC Medianet. These photographs do not depict the characters in action within the show, but merely present them in front of a plain background for identification purposes. Group pictures of the characters are also taken for similar promotional usage. These images are usually released approximately a month prior to the premiere of the season.
